Gem is a stranger in a very strange land. She could remember now how she got here, how she ended up here clear as day.
She wakes up early, slowly drawing the air into her lungs. It's always soothed her, this small house. Gem wishes she could spend more time there— and she nearly does, before the sunbeams dancing around her room force her to wake up to full.
Gem slides out of bed then, stretching out her arms. She's not very refreshed just yet, she thinks. She pads barefoot down the hall, glancing out of the nearby window as she walks.
There is her stable, horses still fast asleep. Her garden is flourishing next to the river that is in front of her house. The sky has long ago turned blue, no hint of any darkness lingering.
Good, Gem thinks, maybe this isn't a day of change. On days like these, she can curl up on an armchair, paging through her favourite, worn out, book as her dog sleeps on the rug in front of her armchair.
Downstairs, Gem takes out the dog food, pouring a bowl for her dog. She hasn't seen him yet, so she assumes he's still asleep.
After, she takes two eggs out of the pantry, taking a bowl, milk and a whisk.
The process of making scrambled eggs is familiar to Gem, just as the action of chopping down a tree or watering her plants.
It soothes her, doing repetitive, simple things.
Gem goes upstairs, after she eats her breakfast, leaving her plate and fork in the sink. She'll wash them later, after her gardening.
Once back in her room, she changes out of her pajamas and into something more fitting for the outdoors. In search of something to adorn her antlers with, Gem's eyes pause on a lovely little yellow flower crown.
She had woven it yesterday, seeking something different to stand out against her familiar red. Yellow hasn't gone out of style for her, and she carefully slips the flower crown onto her head.
Gem takes a quick glance into the bathroom mirror after brushing her teeth, and feels more comfortable with her appearance.
She goes back downstairs, past her sleeping dog, her empty kitchen, and then through the door. The sun doesn't beat down on her, more like a friendly ally, then a terrifying foe.
Her garden will love this weather, Gem thinks, and checks in on them. The garden has grown into a grove of sorts, flowering trees and ivy of every kind. In truth, this is a garden she can get lost in. This doesn't terrify her at all.
Gem's a creature of nature, after all. She weaves her way to the middle, to the first tree she had ever planted here.
It's an old thing, not as old as the dark oak trees here, which were older than when she had first came. However, it is her own, which is far more sacred.
What surprises Gem, as she draws near it, is the portal, something that definitely wasn't there the last time she had visited. It looks as bit like an End Portal, she thinks.
It's on the ground, with strange inscriptions written into it in place of ender pearls. The runes must activate it somehow, as the portal couldn't have appeared naturally open, Gem decides. The portal itself is mainly aqua, with swirls of pale pink, green, and yellow, the colours faded around the edges of the portal.
Gem thinks it's lovely, almost enchanting. She gets the feeling that it won't hurt her, if she steps through it, and feels that it's just waiting for her.
Why is that? She wonders, stepping closer towards it. She glances back at her home, at her garden and the winding river.
This is just a new adventure, Gem realizes. She has been in need of one for a while. Besides, she can always go back.
Gem climbs the steps upward, rallies her courage and curiosity, things that go hand in hand for her, and steps through it.
The feeling of falling only lasts a second, misty blue fog surrounding her before disappearing. Gem finds herself in a small crevice in the ground.
To the right of her is a familiar face: Pearlescent Moon, or Pearl as she's usually called. She gives her a nod, a smile like a firework exploding across her face. This makes her feel a bit more comfortable.
Gem looks up at the sun which was slightly in her eyes, and sees and ensemble of twenty or so faces looking down at her.
"Er..." A man says, bringing her eyes to him. He flushes, seeming a bit nervous and not quite sure what to do with his hands. "Welcome to Hermitcraft."
Ah. Gem realizes, puzzle pieces clicking into place. Hermitcraft: a place of builders and redstoners, who are rumoured, and perhaps are, to be the best in the realms. This is what the portal was for. An invitation.
Who had chosen her to become one of them; a hermit.
Gem's suddenly very glad to step through that portal, to accept an unspoken invitation. She was in search of an adventure, after all, and she knows that Hermitcraft is going to be a very interesting adventure indeed.
