Love Hurts
The hermits had all decided that X needed some time to himself.
That was fine.
X felt like a sodden piece of paper.
As the hermits filed out, he could catch False's pretty eyes trailing over to him.
She glanced around quickly and slipped out to sit next to X, who was now leaning tiredly against a wall.
X gave her a weak smile.
False smiled back, an action that made X's secretly flirty heart swoosh and swirl.
She cleared her throat.
"So," she awkwardly started while awkwardly fidgeting with her goggles.
"During our time at Team STAR, you were always muttering with a painstakingly sad tone about someone named Hathene while you slept. Who's that?",she asked cautiously.
X's fingers rapped nervously at that name.
False' eyes widened. "I- I mean like, if you prefer not to tell, I won't mind. I can understand that.", she stuttered.
"Cute.", X muttered very softly as his face heated up again for the hundredth time that day.
"What did you say?"
"I- Oh, I just mumbled that the topic usually makes me want to fall in a chute. I just stumbled on it. Phew! Word spit, ya' know?"
"Smoooth mooove, Void. When are you going to tell her?", thought the disgraceful part of him.
"Be quiet, please.", he thought back.
False nodded.
X took a breath. "I'll tell you."
~~A month before X's Accident ~~
X had his first love at the Starforce.
Her name was Hathene.
She had emerald green eyes, deep brown hair, and lightly tanned skin. She wore dark purple armor.
Hathene was moody and impulsive, and sometimes snarky, but X knew that there was something else in her that he fell for.
It was her quiet compassion for those she cared for.
For two months, X had tried to grab her attention, someone to be with.
Finally, they were together.
The star-crossed lovers of the Starforce.
One day, they sat together on a wall, looking over at the sunset that melted into the ocean while waiting for the Respawn function to be fixed. Directly in front of the wall at the bottom were sharp rock spikes, defense against Drowneds.
X looked lovingly into Hathene's eyes.
"It sure looks beautiful, doesn't it?", he said to her.
Hathene nodded, looking off into the sea.
"It's pretty, just like you, Hattie.", X continued.
Hathene turned around sharply and shot X one of her hawk-like glares. "What did I say about you calling me 'Hattie'?", she laughed.
The coral necklace he had given her yesterday swung with her merrily.
X laughed, and lightly pushed her teasingly.
It was so quick, he didn't have much time to react.
Hathene's eyes widened and she tipped off the wall.
She screamed, and tried to activate Elytra Mode on her armor with frantic button pressing.
But only a dreadful beeping occurred, and that's when it must've hit both of them: Her Elytra was under repair, and was with the Blacksmith.
Gasping, X dove after her, the wind whistling past his face. He activated his Elytra and reached for her hand.
Hathene tried to grab that lifeline, but it was too late. Her eyes bugged out, and she gave out a sickening cry of despair.
She had hit a rock spike.
X brought out a potion of healing and tried to reverse the effects of fall damage and impalment.
Hathene's experience flowed out of her body and into X despite the potion in her body.
Gasping with pain, she still managed to grab X by the shoulders.
"P-promise me X.. P-promise m-me t-t-that you- won't b-blame y-your-r-self. P-please X. I-I d-d-d-don't want to s-s-see you to sh-shaken up. S-swear on that!", she muttered.
"No! I can't lose you Hathene! I can't see you die and never come back!"
Both of their eyes watered up.
They had fought together. Ate together. Loved each other.
But now, a deep love was now being torn apart.
Hathene's breathing became more labored, but she shook her head slightly.
"Y-you c-can d-d-do it X. P-P-Prom-m-ise you won't g-g-give up over-over a sm-small m-matter I-I-in life like... me."
X begged her to hold on, and hold out until the respawn feature was fixed.
But fate wouldn't let her stay.
Hathene stopped breathing, and disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
X sobbed, and looked at a poppy he would have given her today.
From that moment on, X swore that he would never pour out his feelings to anyone, wouldn't make a fuss, unless two hearts be broken again.
