The Whispering Woods were always silent, there was not a single living thing in there to make noise, after all. An endless, eerie fog slithered across the damp dirt and crawled up the sides of trees, where sticky moss lay dormant. There were no true paths in the Whispering Woods, only the seemingly infinite, overgrown stone road that had long been covered by ferns; it wrapped around the whole forest, twisting and turning and eventually ending in a large spiral surrounding an imposing, mountainous, cold brick tower.

As I step into the cloudy clearing, the fog begins to lift, allowing me to see the top of the tower, a dark tiled room spiraling like the road below it and ending in a pointy tip where a single crow sat ominously, watching whatever might move. I thought back to the previous day, I had been in Hermit Village, a small town just outside of the woods, and had overheard some of the villagers discussing the old, evil wizard who lived deep in the Whispering Woods: he was a man who's magic was considered deadly and dangerous and a man who was now wanted dead. The villagers planned to send a brave knight to slay the wizard of the woods and put an end to his terror. That is why I am here.

The metal heel of my boots clicked against the stone path as I slowly tread towards the tower, the silence that surrounded me was deafening and somewhere far in the distance, I could hear a pin drop. I looked up at the tall trees that surrounded me, wondering what types of creatures were watching me today. It was at that moment that I saw them, three very small owls sitting on the branch of a lone olive tree; I stared at them for a moment and six eyes stared back, unblinking. It was then that all three let out a powerful cry and they sprung into the air, flying higher and higher into the sky until I could see no more than three small brown dots in the clouds.

Finally, I reached the door. I slip my hand into my pocket and pull out a small, silver key. Suddenly, a formidable wind blows the key for my hand; I twist my body to search for it, however it is nowhere to be found. No matter, there was and has always been a back door. I made my way around the rounded side of the tower, listening to the morning air whisper in my ear. Then, I reached into a thorny berry bunch and pulled on a lever. There way a grinding of granite and slate and a door ploddingly slid open. I barely had the chance to step inside when an intense, rumbling voice lurked out from the gloomy corner of the tower.

"So, you finally dare to return?" breathed the voice in a dark, hissing manner. "I thought you'd have given up by now." A figure slowly slunk out from the shadows, eyes as dark as the void peering at me from a view inches below.

My smile shifted to a smirk. "Oh, you know I go where I please." I reached a hand underneath my sage and ivory cloak.

"I won't let you escape this time, Scar." The figure raised his head, brushing the shaggy, sorrel hair from his face and unsheathing his weapon. "You have plagued me far too long."

I pull out a weapon of my own, pointing it at the other's chest. "We could have been friends, Bdubs. We could have been more...." I growled out. "But you just had to ruin it all."

Bdubs stands strong, "No... No we couldn't." And that's when he does it; he swings with such force I thought for a moment that he might tip over, but he doesn't. He was always far too skilled to make such a silly mistake, strong as an ox and as mighty as a mountain.

I take a broad step back, dodging his slash, then returning one of my own. It is at this point that the battle becomes a blur, magic splashing into walls and deep gashes in wooden crates full of leaking potions were a constant along with panicked, pained and angry shouts. That was until I had Bdubs right where I needed him, laying nearly limp on the rock tiles, his own weapon through his chest, almost piercing the heart.

"Goodbye, Bdubs. Such a shame you won't be able to terrorize me any more." Bdubs says nothing, simply accepting his fate and closing his eyes for the final time as I stomp the blade deeper. Metal heel on metal weapon. Click. Clack.

...Three days later.

I trudge into the main square of the village, a wisp of smoke floating up into the sky from the center where a single grave sat. It read, "Bdouble O, brave knight."

I hope that was kinda a plot twist at the end there- You're generally meant to think the protag is the knight up until the very end so I kept the weapon and character descriptions very vague. Anyways, off to disappear for another year or so :D

Ladies, gentlemen, theydies and gentletheys, have a FAEtastic day! <33
