Valentine's Day (Beetho)

I got this one from a prompt generator! Beetho is one of my favorite ships, so I was really excited to get started on this one!

Also, apologies if character personalities are a bit off for this one, I don't watch Beef's videos.

There is slight Scarian and one sided Gritho in this, but that isn't the main premise of this shot.

Warnings: Nothing too bad, just a bunch of angst. Dw, it gets fluffy at the end!

Word count: About 1200 words

"Beef, I need advice."

Beef looked up at Etho, who had a nervous expression on his face.

"Go ahead."

"There's...someone I like. I want to tell them how I feel about them, since it's Valentine's Day and all, but...I don't know how to do it." Etho explained, fidgeting with his fingers.

Beef bit his lip, and he couldn't help the feeling of jealousy fill his heart.

But why? It's not like he and Etho were together or anything. Then why did Beef feel this heartache?

Beef suppressed his jealousy. "Well, you should tell them how you feel about them! Best thing to do is to come out straight."

Etho's eyes flickered, a spark of encouragement in his eyes.

"Thank you, Beef!"

Etho suddenly wrapped his arms around Beef in a tight hug, his warmth spreading throughout Beef's body.

Beef hesitantly put his hands down on Etho, unsure of what to do.

Etho pulled apart, and it was clear even under his mask that he was smiling.

Etho waved goodbye and walked away, firing a rocket and bursting into the air, leaving Beef alone. Beef let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping down.

"Whatever." Beef mumbled to himself. "It's not like I had a chance with him anyways."

-POV: ETHO-
Etho felt confident with the advice given to him from Beef. Just tell him how you feel! Nothing could go wrong with that, can it?

Etho searched around the server to find him. To find the person that made him feel happy by just sticking around. The person who smiled like the sun.

To find the short little gremlin, Grian.

Etho spotted Grian at Scar's base, sitting on a large pile of shulker boxes.

Everything about him seemed so...radiant.

The sun shone down on Grian, his hair looking golden in the sunlight. His red sweater had a strange bit of charm to it, and his smile was indescribable.

How do you put words to describe something that seems physically impossible to exist?

And Grian's laugh...oh, Etho adored his laugh. It was like pure sunshine, filling his empty heart. Etho desperately wanted Grian to laugh at Etho's jokes, as he got lost in those misty gray eyes.

Then...another voice spoke.

"Grian, what are you doing? Come on and help me!"

Scar walked into view, laughing at Grian. Grian grinned and stuck a tongue out at Scar.

Scar rolled his eyes in a playful matter as he climbed the shulker boxes to get next to Grian.

"You're so cute, you know that?" Scar laughed, brushing a bit of Grian's hair behind his ear.

Grian blushed, giggling.

Etho felt his heart sink as he watched the two. This can't be happening...

Suddenly, Grian leaned forward into Scar, kissing him on the lips.

Etho's heart shattered. It was destroyed, and Grian just stepped on the shards.

Etho's eyes filled with burning tears, and he bolted off, equipping his elytra and flying off.

Tears blinded Etho.

He didn't know where he was going.

He didn't know what he was going to do.

He didn't know anything.

What was happening?

His heart hurt in a way that was too painful for words.

Nothing could explain his feelings.

His thoughts were a broken.

His heart was broken

He was broken.

Nothing mattered anymore.

-POV: BEEF-
Beef sat underneath a tree in the Shopping District, sighing.

It pained him, watching all the other Hermits laughing together, enjoying the day of love.

Some were couples, some were just friends hanging out, but either way was too saddening for Beef to watch.

Beef thought that maybe, just maybe, that this Valentine's that he could hang out with Etho, maybe steal a kiss, hug him, never let go.

But Etho didn't love him. Not like that, at least.

And now Beef truly felt alone.

Beef stood up, when suddenly, he saw someone flying with their elytra, crashing into the beach.

Confused, Beef walked over to see which Hermit had been careless.

"Etho? What happened?"

Etho's face was tear stained, his eyes red and his hair tousled. His mask wasn't around his mouth either.

"...I-I tried to...he didn't...Scar and-..." Etho mumbled, his sentences not exactly making much sense.

Beef gave Etho a hug.

"It's okay, Etho."

Beef wanted to say how he felt. I love you. I want to be with you. I want to be here to help you. Because I love you.

But considering how Etho was acting, that would be selfish if him to say this.

Beef put his hands on Etho's shoulders and asked, "So, wanna talk about what happened?"

Etho shook his head.

"Can we just...hang out?"

"Of course we can."

The two wandered the Shopping District, talking about life and their plans for their bases and for the future.

Beef didn't dare bring up the subject of what happened, for fear that Etho would start to cry again. If Beef made Etho cry, the brunette would never forgive himself.

Beef tried whatever he could to get a smile out of Etho. He loved when he made Etho smile. It made him feel special.

This isn't about you, Beef reminded himself. Don't be so selfish.

Etho didn't smile.

-POV: ETHO-
Although Etho was still hurting, hanging out with his best friend was enough to lift his mood slightly.

Best friend...why didn't that sound right? It was true. Beef was Etho's best friend. Then why did Etho feel like he wanted more?

"Come on, let's sit at the beach!"

Beef dragged Etho over to the warm sandy beach of the Shopping District, where they could watch a beautiful sunset.

Beef beamed at Etho, his smile more radiant than the sun itself.

Etho blushed.

Beef leaned back on his hands, letting out a content sigh.

"Are you feeling any better, Etho?"

"...I guess so. I-"

Etho caught himself. He was about to say, "I like hanging out with you." But that would sound weird, right? Too direct.

Etho unconsciously moved his hand closer to Beef's, their fingers brushing up against the other.

Beef hesitantly intertwined his fingers with Etho's.

Etho looked at Beef with a bewildered expression. Like he was trying to figure him out.

Etho swallowed hard.

"Beef...I-I really enjoyed hanging out with you today."

There. He said it. The question now is how would Beef react?

Beef looked at Etho, a smile tugging at his lips.

"I did too."

Etho blushed furiously, looking away. He used his finger to trace small circles in the sand.

Beef bit his lip, looking away from Etho and at the sunset.

Etho stared at Beef, admiring how the sun looked on his skin.

Etho's heart pounded in his ears. Some unknown force was the cause of what happened next.

Without thinking, Etho kissed Beef on the cheek. It was for a brief moment, and he quickly pulled away, turning red.

"I-I'm sorry! I didn't-you don't-I just-" Etho stammered, unable to find words.

Beef placed a hand in Etho's arm.

"Etho. It's okay."

Etho smiled like an idiot.

"Happy Valentine's Day, Beefers."

The two leaned in and kissed each other, not a care in the world. And that was the end of it.

Okay! I finally finished that one! I wanna see how far I can go with writing at least 1000 words per shot, just so I can improve on writing!

I hope you enjoyed that one! Please leave suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated!
