Hels gripped his sword, staring down his opponent. Which was an armor stand that bore Wels' armor, but it was an opponent nonetheless.
Suddenly, Ex burst into the Nether Fortress, tears in his eyes. Hels jumped backwards in surprise.
"Wha- Ex, what happened-?" Hels asked, sheathing his sword.
Ex shook his head, stumbling past Hels, shoving him to the side. He ran into his room, slamming the door.
Hels glanced at a piglin who was guarding the front door. The pig soldier gave a confused grunt, mimicking the movement of a shrug, one of the many gestures they had picked up from Ex and Hels.
Hels sighed, removing his helmet. He shook out his dark, brown hair before walking over to Ex's door.
Hels hesitantly knocked on the door. "Ex?" he called, his voice gentler than usual. "Don't ignore me. I know you're in there, dummy."
"Shut up and go away." Ex barked through the door, his voice muffled and shaky.
Hels instructed, "Open the door or I'm breaking it down."
Silence.
Then, with a click of a lock, and Ex opened the door.
He looked very much disheveled. His eyes were red and puffy, full of tears, his silvery hair was messed up, and his cheeks were flushed.
Ex looked away, sitting down on his bed. He gripped his helmet, nails grasping at the sides.
Hels sat down next to him and asked, "What happened?"
Ex started to cry, tears rolling down his cheeks. He hugged his knees, crying uncontrollably.
Hels felt uncomfortable. Emotions weren't exactly his strong suit. Sure, Ex was fine with them, but Hels wasn't a very touchy person.
He didn't know what to do. He wanted to help Ex, to wrap his arms around him, to say it's okay, to kiss his forehead- Hels shook his head. This isn't about you.
Ex shakily explained, "I-I had a fight w-with Xisuma..."
"What the heck?" Xisuma whispered. He looked up at Ex, and his voice grew louder, into an enraged shout. "What the heck?!"
"X, it was a joke, calm down, idiot." Ex rolled his eyes.
Xisuma yelled, "It was a joke?! You just destroyed my helmet! My armor! Dad's armor...y-you ruined that last thing we had of him! What the heck is wrong with you?!"
Ex's expression grew a little bit afraid. He stammered, "I-I didn't think-"
"Yeah, you never do!" Xisuma spat, his voice poison, angry tears in his eyes. "You're so full of yourself, that's all you ever think about! This was the only thing I had! I hate you! You're the worst thing that's ever happened to me! Dad liked me better than you! Now you know why!" Xisuma jerked a finger at Ex's chest.
Ex stumbled backwards, whispering, "X...I-I'm sorry-..."
"NO!" Xisuma shrieked. "Don't even try to apologize! You don't deserve forgiveness! You've done so much harm to the server, to our family, to my life! I've tried so hard to keep you in line, but you just don't listen! I'm done with you! I hate you so much! Get out of my life!"
Xisuma pushed Ex to the ground.
Ex trembled, "Xisuma..."
"GET OUT!"
Ex stumbled to the Nether portal. He didn't look back.
When Ex finished his story, sniffling, Hels felt an uncontrollable rage boil inside of him.
Xisuma hurt Ex. He hurt him. How dare he?! He was going to pay for this.
Hels stood up, gripping his sword so tightly, his knuckles were white.
Ex looked up, and sniffed, "W-where are you going?"
"I'm going to get revenge." Hels replied flatly.
Ex tugged at Hels' sleeve, "Don't be stupid. You wanna get banned?"
"If it means getting even, then I'll do whatever I need to do!" Hels hissed.
Ex wiped his eye of it's tear. "Why?"
"B-because he hurt you!" Hels responded, his voice struggling to stay steady.
A...a smile crept onto Ex's face? He asked, "Why does that bother you so much?"
"I-...I don't know!" Hels choked, his voice sounding strangled. "M-maybe because I-I love you!"
He clasped his gloved hands over his mouth. Did he seriously just say that?
Hels turned bright red, embarrassed. Ex looked at Hels, his own cheeks pink.
He asked, "...did you mean it?"
"I-I mean, well-...y-you don't-..." Hels stuttered, unable to speak without hesitating and changing his mind with what he was going to say.
Ex grinned a stupid grin, tears still shining in his eyes.
Hels shifted uncomfortably, looking away from Ex. "You don't have to be so smug about it." Hels mumbled.
Ex giggled, "I don't know what you're talking about!" He moved his fingers to intertwine them with Hels' fingers.
Hels' breath hitched as Ex held his hand, time seeming to slow down.
"Hels." Ex said softly. "Do you love me?" Hels somehow managed to turn even more red than he already was.
He squeaked out, "Y-you can't just ask that, Ex!"
"That doesn't answer the question, Hels."
Hels flushed, "I-...yes..." Hels hugged a pillow, squishing his face into it to prevent Ex from seeing how flustered he was.
He felt Ex ruffle his hair.
Hels looked up, and Ex smiled, "It's okay. I love you too."
"I thought I was supposed to be comforting you right now." Hels protested.
A smirk formed on Ex's face.
He said, "You want to comfort me? Kiss me."
Hels was taken aback by this request, giving Ex a bewildering expression.
He sputtered, "I- you- what?!"
Ex blushed, "You heard me right."
Hels bit his lip, before quickly pecking Ex on the cheek, his lips there only for a brief moment.
Ex rolled his eyes, "Coward."
Before Hels knew what was happening, Ex was practically sitting in his lap, his lips pressed onto his own.
Hels felt his cheeks flare up, his heart bursting with happiness, an emotion he rarely felt.
And Hels clung onto it for dear life.
He held onto Ex's hands, gripping them tightly, as if afraid the moment he let them go, this feeling would disappear.
Hels felt Ex's fingers run through his hair, and he sighed with content.
They pulled apart, flustered and breathing heavily. They stared at each other, hand still in hand.
Hels suddenly stood up, releasing Ex's hand.
Ex asked, "Where do you think you're going?"
"Xisuma hurt your feelings, remember?" Hels said, unsheathing his sword.
Ex sighed, "You're not still on that, are you?"
He stood up and kissed Hels again. Hels melted in Ex's touch, dropping his sword, which landed on the ground with a clank noise.
Hels wrapped his arms around Ex's waist.
He wished for more moment like these. Moments where he could cling to Ex and never let go.
Luckily, it seemed Ex wished the same.
I will quote from Heathers the Musical,
"What can I say? I'm a sucker for a happy ending."
Hope you enjoyed that! I headcanon that Hels acts like he doesn't care for Ex, but if someone hurts Ex in the slightest bit, Hels will straight up murder them.
