Defensive (Scarsuma)
I am absolutely in love with this ship, so of course I had to do one! It was actually Rae who originally got me hooked onto this ship, so props to her for that!
Warnings: Nothing too bad, though there is physical and verbal bullying (so there is minor blood) and some cursing, so beware!
Also, sorry I'm so bad at coming up with titles haha
Word count: About 1300 words
Xisuma sat at his desk, sighing. His hand was propped up on the table so that he could rest his head as he fiddled with his pencil with his other hand.
The other students were running around the room, as the teacher had just stepped out for a minute or two.
Xisuma was always described as a goody two shoes by his brother and friends, and it was true. Even through the chaos of the classroom, Xisuma sat at his desk, trying to read like a responsible kid.
Then, he walked in.
Xisuma heard the door open, and a new boy walked in. His eyes were of emeralds, shining brightly. His hair was brown, some of it sticking out at certain areas as if he didn't brush it in the morning. He had a scar across his nose and another from his chin tracing down his neck.
Xisuma's purple eyes drifted at the boy, and he had to do a double take. His hand slipped from under his chin in surprise, and Xisuma almost banged his head on the table had he not caught himself.
He stared at this new boy as he sat down next to him. Xisuma noticed that this boy walked with a leg brace, two metal crutches in each of his hand and a mechanical strap around his knees and legs.
Some other kids stared at the green-eyed boy, some whispering in confusion. "Who is he?" some whispered. "What the heck is wrong with his legs?"
Xisuma felt himself glowering at his peers. The teacher finally returned, clapping their hands together in an attempt to control the class.
"Alright, everyone! We have a new student in our class!" Mx. River said, gesturing to the new boy. They smiled, "Scar, would you like to introduce yourself?"
The new boy (Scar) shook his head, his cheeks turning red as the class stared at him.
Mx. River nodded, "That's alright. Well, everyone, please open your green packet to page seventeen! Xisuma, will you mind grabbing a packet for Scar?"
Xisuma got up and ran over to a cabinet, picking out one of the packets for Scar. Once he acquired it, he walked back over to Scar, handing it to him.
"Here," Xisuma said softly.
Scar took it hesitantly, giving Xisuma an unreadable look.
Xisuma blushed a little as he rushed back into his seat, pressing his hand against his forehead. Every now and again, he would steal a glance at Scar, trying to read him.
Xisuma caught his twin brother's eyes from across the room, who grinned, mouthing, "Simp."
Xisuma face flared up, and he buried his cheeks in his jacket, laying his head on his desk in embarrassment.
Soon, the bell rang, and school was over. Xisuma closed his textbooks, shoving his books into his bag, which was barely large enough to fit all the things he was required for school.
Ex walked over to Xisuma, an arm draped around his boyfriend, Hels' shoulders.
"Hey, X," Ex smirked. "You were totally loosing your mind over that new guy!"
Xisuma's face filled up with color as he squeaked out, "Wh-what?! No way! I-I don't know what your talking about! I don't-"
Hels rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, just deny it. Y'know denial never worked for anyone."
Xisuma swallowed hard. "I don't even know that guy. You guys are seeing things."
Xisuma picked up his bag and left the room, unable to shake the weird uneasy feeling in his stomach.
He was originally going to ride the bus home, but seeing how Ex was acting, the teasing was not going to stop, so Xisuma decided to walk home instead.
It was a fairly nice day, considering it was November. The sun was peaking out of the sky through the clouds, and a slight breeze blew through Xisuma's honey brown hair.
Xisuma had one long strand of hair behind his ear that he dyed purple behind his parents' backs. It looked cool, but his parents weren't exactly too impressed when they noticed it.
Xisuma was pulled from his thoughts when he heard shouting coming from around the corner.
He peeked his head through the bushes, and gasped softly at what he saw.
Three people were standing over Scar, who was on the ground, his crutches out of reach.
"Crippled!" one boy shouted, kicking at Scar.
Scar cried out, "St-stop it! I didn't do anything to you!" Tears were flooding his eyes and he was helpless to the mercy of these bullies.
Xisuma felt his fist clench as he marched over, standing in front of Scar defensively.
"What's your problem?!" Xisuma scowled.
"Your boyfriend's my problem!" another guy spat back, shoving Xisuma.
Xisuma stumbled backwards, but he stood his ground.
Xisuma shakily held up a fist. "Just back off."
The guy narrowed his eyes and punched Xisuma across the face.
"What are you gonna do, smart-ass?!"
Xisuma fell to the ground, crying out in pain as his head banged hard against the concrete sidewalk.
The boys kicked at him, as Scar yelled, "Stop! What are you doing?!" He tried to push away the boys, only to get a foot to the face, blood gushing from his nose.
Suddenly, a familiar voice shouted, "Hey! What do you think you're doing?!"
Xisuma looked up weakly to see Wels, Hels, and Ex.
Hels lunged at the bullies as Wels ran to help Xisuma and Scar up.
Hels yelped in pain as he was shoved backwards into Ex's arms.
"Don't touch him, dickheads!" Ex growled, punching someone square in the face.
As the bullies gathered themselves, they ran off, giving nasty stares as they left.
"Cowards!" Ex barked. He fussed over Hels, who currently had a very bloody nose.
"I'm fine, Ex. Face wounds bleed easily," Hels protested, though he seemed quite amused with the sudden attention from his boyfriend.
"Hey, you two okay?" Wels asked as Xisuma helped Scar with his crutches.
"Yeah." Xisuma sighed. "How'd you find me?"
"Well, you kind of took off without us after school, so we just walked to try to find you." Alex explained. "I'm walking Wels and Hels home. You wanna come?"
"I...I think I'm fine." Xisuma shook his head.
They waved goodbye, and it was now just Xisuma and Scar.
Xisuma bit his lip nervously. "Are you alright?"
"Heh, yeah." Scar smiled weakly. "Thanks for trying to defend me. No ones...ever done that before."
"Well, I wasn't going to let those guys hurt you!" Xisuma said, his ears turning pink.
Scar looked away. "I mean...at my old school, no one stood up for me. Most made fun of me for being...well, crippled as they put it. They gave me these scars." He pointed at his face.
Xisuma gasped, "That's horrible!"
"It's just how it goes, sometimes."
"...I'll defend you." Xisuma said softly. He suddenly grew aware of how closely he and Scar were standing. Scar smelled like coconut.
"...why are you being so nice to me?" Scar asked quietly.
Xisuma blurted, "Because I-I think you're cute! And you seem like a nice person! And I-" He instantly wanted to put those words back into his mouth.
A smile tugged at Scar's mouth. His hands moved up and around Xisuma's neck, playing with his soft hair with a gentle touch.
Xisuma slipped his hands between Scar's waist, short, breathless puffs of air escaping his mouth.
The last thing Xisuma saw was Scar's beautiful, green eyes before he leaned down and kissed Scar.
Wasn't too proud of this one, but I just had to write this because I rewatched the movie Wonder, and that one scene where those seventh graders try to beat up Auggie and Jack Will inspired me.
Also, yes, Mx. River is indeed nonbinary :) I might include them in other chapters whenever I need a teacher because gosh darn it, NONBINARY RIGHTS
I might do a Kerdubs shot next because I need some fluff rn, but no promises. Until then, I will see you later!
