How Could I Forget? (Bdoc)
"Bdubs? Bdubs! I think he's waking up!"
Who's calling me? The freckled brunette lazily thought. Slowly blinking he squinted at the bright lights. Groaning, he tried to sit up. He was surprised when a comforting pair of hands helped him up. Looking over, he saw a familiar face.
"Keralis? Where am I?" Bdubs asked his friend. His eyes adjusted, and he was finally able to comprehend what was around him.
"Don't worry, the doctor will be here in just a moment," Keralis reassured him, petting his head.
"Doctor? What? Keralis why am I in a hospital?"
The taller brunette took his hand, giving it a light squeeze. "Do you remember anything?" he quietly asked.
Wincing, a sharp feeling of pain pierced his skull as he tried to recall. "I-"
"Ah, you're awake!" a tall, pale woman stepped into the room, a warm smile on her face. She held a tablet in her hand and tapped a couple of times before approaching the hospital bed. "How are you feeling?"
"Uh, kinda confused. I don't really know why I'm here, and I have a headache," he explained, rubbing his head.
The woman nodded and typed something into the tablet. "We're going to run a couple of tests so we can determine how much longer you need to stay here," she explained. "I'll be right back." And just like that, she was gone.
"So is anyone going to tell me what's going on? Why am I in the hospital?" Bdubs asked, feeling agitated and frustrated.
Taking a deep breath, Keralis placed a hand on his shoulder. "Around two weeks ago, you stormed out of my house and drove away. Xisuma and I didn't know where you were going. And that's when we heard it; a... crash. Don't you remember?"
The freckled male stared down at his hands, his head stinging, and his mind racing. "Two weeks ago? The last thing I remember is-" more pain pierced through his head, and he winced. Instinctively, he wanted to squeeze a hand to help comfort him.
But when he reached out, the hand he was looking for wasn't there.
"Hey, where's Doc?" He looked around and began to worry. Does he know I'm here? I hope he took care of himself while I've been here. He thought, knowing fully well that the hybrid tended to ignore self-care when Bdubs wasn't around to pester him.
"Why would Doc be here?" the taller male scoffed, surprising his friend.
"Because he's my boyfriend?"
The wide-eyed boy just stared at him. "You don't remember?" he repeated. Bdubs leaned his head back, sighing.
"Trying to remember things really hurts right now," he admitted.
The woman returned, this time with others. "Would you mind stepping out for a little?" she asked Keralis.
"Not at all," turning to the tan male, he gave his head a little pat. "I"m going to call our friends, alright? See you in a bit, Bubbles,"
Once he left, questions were thrown in Bdubs' face. His blood was drawn, his temperature was taken. Despite being confused, he did his best to comply with what the doctors and nurses were asking of him. Once he got a CAT scan and taken back to his room, the doctors filed left until the first was left. "We'll have your results soon enough," she promised, before exiting.
He was only given a couple of minutes of alone time before Keralis returned, this time with Beef and Etho in tow. "Look who's here!" he announced. Feeling relieved to see more familiar faces, Bdubs sat up and gave them big hugs.
"Glad to see you awake," Beef grinned, ruffling his hair.
"You really had us worried," Etho quietly admitted, giving his hand a little squeeze.
It didn't take long for more people to arrive. Xisuma was next to arrive, shortly followed by Scar, Cub, Grian, and Mumbo. After Grian almost killed him with a giant hug, Tango and Impulse appeared.
Bdubs began to talk with Tango and Grian, laughing as they egged him on as he purposely made the heart monitor jump, he could see something out of the corner of his eye. Keralis was frowning as he spoke with X, Beef, and Etho. I wonder what that's about.
"Sorry we have to leave so soon," Impulse apologized. "But you gotta get better soon. It's hard being a team of two boomers!" he laughed, giving Bdubs a final hug. After Impulse and Tango left, the spiky brunette couldn't help but worry.
"Is Doc coming?" he asked Scar. The tall male rubbed the back of his neck as he sat next to the bed.
"I don't know," he said slowly. "Don't worry, okay? He's fine," he reassured him. It may have been his imagination, but Bdubs could've sworn there was a hint of bitterness in his friend's voice.
A figure appeared in the doorway but didn't step in. The short male leaned forward, his heart jumping. But before the male could even step in, Keralis moved outside to talk to him. He's probably telling him off for being late or something. He realized, smiling to himself at his friend's concern.
Finally, Bdubs thought as Keralis walked back in, Doc behind him. Oblivious to the tension that began to fill the room, Bdubs' eyes sparkled. "Doc!" he exclaimed. The hybrid slowly made his way over to him, and Scar stood up to move. In fact, most of his friends ended up filing out of the room to give them space. Only Keralis and Etho remained in the back.
"How are you feeling?" Doc asked as he sat down where Scar was. The bubbly brunette pulled him into a tight hug, only to get a light pat on the back in return. He knew his boyfriend was never great at showing affection, so he thought nothing of it.
"Better now that you're here," he smiled, sitting back. "I'm sorry if I worried you," he apologized.
"Don't worry about it," the darker brunette said awkwardly.
"I missed you," Bdubs softly admitted, playing with Doc's robotic hand as usual. A sad smile formed on the tall male's face.
"I missed you too," he muttered.
His boyfriend stayed with him when the doctor returned, and so did Etho and Keralis.
Squeezing the brunette hybrid's hand, disbelief drowned out the doctor's explanation.
He had amnesia.
"...so in summary, it's nothing to worry about. It could've been a lot worse. Considering his condition, his memories shouldn't take too long to return," the doctor concluded.
"That's good to know, thank you," Etho nodded. He turned to Bdubs, and although his mask was covering his mouth, the brunette could tell he was smiling at him. "You excited to go home?" he asked.
"Thank you again," Bdubs told the doctor.
"Of course. Just be more careful next time, and let your friends help you out for a while," she instructed.
Finally outside the hospital, the short male tucked the pain relief medication for his headache into the small bag Keralis had brought for him.
"Call if you ever need anything, okay?" Scar said, climbing into his car with Cub.
"See you next week!" Cub added before they left the hospital.
"So are we still roommates or have you finally moved out to Mumbo's?" Bdubs teased, throwing an arm over Grian.
"As a matter of fact, I did move out," the blonde stated smugly, sticking his tongue out.
"Speaking of which, you still haven't finished unpacking, and it's been three weeks," Mumbo butted in, his hands on his hips.
"So there's a couple of boxes lying around, no big deal," the blonde shrugged.
The freckled brunette pulled his arm away as the mustached man shook Grian's shoulders.
"Grian please, it is a big deal. For my sake, love, sort them," he pleaded dramatically.
"Alright, alright!" he giggled. "See you at Scar's next week!" he said, making his goodbyes to Bdubs. Hugging the blonde, the tan male didn't see him glaring at Doc and mouthing, don't you dare hurt him again.
"X and I can give you a lift," Keralis offered once Etho and Beef drove away. The freckled boy glanced at his boyfriend. He really wanted to stay with him, but he felt like he was somehow making him uncomfortable. Did we have a fight? Is that why I stormed out of X and Keralis'?
"It's fine," surprising both Bdubs and Keralis, Doc placed a hand on his shoulder. "I can get him home."
"Thanks!" the shorter male grinned, feeling a little better.
Sighing, his best friend patted his head. "Let me know when you get home, okay?"
"Drive safe, see you guys around!" X gave them both a quick hug before hopping in his car.
Doc motioned towards his car and the two climbed in. As he began to drive, the shorter brunette leaned back in the seat, pressing a hand to his forehead. "You okay?" his boyfriend asked, glancing at him.
"I will be," he mumbled.
Hesitating, the darker brunette reached a flesh hand over to Bdubs, squeezing his free hand to comfort him. He tried not to jump as the small male leaned on his arm and gripped the steering wheel. A small thought crept up on him, but he managed to sweep it away, telling himself to focus on driving. After all, it had been a while since he had to drive to Bdubs' place.
"You don't want to come in?" the small brunette tilted his head as he stood on the steps to his apartment.
"No, it's fine," Doc lied.
"Aw c'mon, we haven't seen each other in a couple of weeks, I wanna spend time with you babe," he pouted, playing with his keys.
I shouldn't, this is wrong. "You need your rest," the taller male laughed. He walked up to the boy, towering over him as he pushed his bandana up slightly. "Go get some sleep, DoubleO," he insisted.
"Okay," Bdubs muttered, pressing his forehead against him.
Don't. Don't do it. It's not right. "Alright fine," Doc sighed, trying to ignore his thoughts. "I give in,"
Perking up, the freckled brunette grinned. "Yay!" he clapped.
After locking up his car and entering Bdubs' apartment, the hybrid looked around. I shouldn't be here. He thought nervously. He watched as the smaller brunette plopped down on his couch, patting the cushion next to him. Doc carefully sat down, trying not to seem so awkward.
"Whaddya wanna do?" Bdubs asked.
"Make sure you take your meds and get to bed," he grinned, relaxing.
"You're no fun," he muttered, though he was smiling as well.
"I'll get you some water," Doc offered, getting up.
Putting down the empty glass and pill bottle on the coffee table next to the couch, he leaned against the hybrid. Something about how he flinched stung a little. Did he always jump? He worried.
God, it hasn't even been that long and I'm already no longer used to it. The darker brunette laughed to himself.
"I'm sorry," Bdubs mumbled, sitting up straight.
"For what?" he asked.
"I think I know what happened before... before I was hospitalized," the freckled boy stared at his feet, gripping the couch.
Doc's heart had completely stopped at this point. He couldn't have figured it out. Is Keralis going to kill me if I confirm it?
"We had a fight, didn't we?" he quietly asked, glancing up at Doc.
"I- Sorta, yeah," he scratched the back of his neck.
"Well, whatever happened, I'm sorry. I feel like it's my fault. I'm sure I didn't mean whatever I said, if I said anything bad about you. No, I know I didn't mean anything negative I said about you," turning to face a wide-eyed Doc, he stared at him with determination in his eyes. "Because I know that I love you, and everything about you."
Leaning down, the brunette hybrid pressed his forehead against Bdubs'. He tried to blink back tears, but they just poured out of his organic eye. "The universe really has it out for me, huh? This is such a sucky punishment," he bitterly laughed, trembling.
Although he was confused, Bdubs pulled him closer into a comforting hug, only to be squeezed back.
"You shouldn't apologize, you did nothing wrong, okay? It's all my fault, and I was an idiot. I still am, honestly. I'm the one who's sorry, and I'm the one who never should've said those things," he explained, in between sobs.
"Hey, it's okay," Bdubs reassured him. "I forgive you" Doc pulled his head away, prompting the lighter brunette to kiss his tears away.
You don't deserve this. This is all wrong.
"Don't say that," he muttered, looking away. "You don't even know the full story,"
"Well, I don't need to. We're boyfriends, remember? Whatever happens, we'll always be here for each other, even when we fight," he insisted, squeezing his hand.
"We're not boyfriends anymore," Doc snapped, pulling his hand away. Shit, Keralis was right. He realized.
The tan male stared at him. The sparkle in his eyes that haven't been seen since their break up had finally returned when he woke up. Only to disappear yet again, and all thanks to the same person. What have I done? He worried.
"What do you mean?" he asked, tearing up. Sighing, the hybrid looked away.
"Almost two months ago, we had a really big fight. And I-" he pinched the bridge of his nose as he remembered the argument. "I said some really awful things and told you I was done. We haven't spoken since," he glanced over at Bdubs, his heart shattering as he watched him begin to cry. "I'm really sorry, DoubleO. I never wanted to hurt you, and then I went and did it again. I'm the reason you lost your memories,"
"B-But, that was two weeks ago, and you said we f-fought two months ago," Bdubs pointed out, trying to force himself to stop crying.
"I... I made a dumb decision a couple of weeks ago, and you're the one who paid. I was feeling pitiful of myself for being awful to you, so Ren took me out drinking. We got drunk and- I kissed him. I guess he took a picture and he posted it, and then you saw it,"
"That's why I went to Keralis and X," Bdubs realized, wiping his eyes. "They probably told me I was being overdramatic, since we broke up, and that's when I..." his voice trailed off as he tugged at his long sleeves. "I feel like a dumbass," he muttered to himself.
"You're not a dumbass, Bdubs."
The sound of tires screeching and a crash echoed through Bdubs' head. He covered his head with his hands, leaning over. A flash of a memory blazed through his mind. He can't make out the words, but he can see Doc yelling at him, and he starts crying again.
"It's okay, I got you, I'm right here." The hybrid's voice was soothing to him, and when he pulled him close into a comforting hug, the warmth from his body calmed Bdubs. He clung to Doc as the pain subsided.
"I don't think I ever got over you," he admitted. "I know I still love you."
Cupping his face, the dark brunette rubbed his cheek with his thumb. "I still love you too," he murmured. "But I'm just nervous you're going to hate me once your memories return,"
"Trust me, I won't hate you," the short freckled boy pulled him closer, their noses brushing.
"I still feel like this is wrong," he muttered.
"It's not, I know I love you and I know I want to kiss you," Bdubs grinned.
"I want to kiss you too, but are you sure that-"
"Doc, just shut up and kiss me," he interrupted, their lips practically touching anyways.
Chuckling softly, Doc pressed his lips against his. He hated himself for losing him before, for hurting him so much. Yet at the same time, euphoria exploded within his chest. He missed this. He missed him. Never again. He promised himself. I will never hurt you again.
When they finally pulled apart, the tall hybrid ran a hand through Bdubs' hair. "Okay, I think you need to go to bed already," he suggested.
"Fine." the short boy shrugged and stood up. Without saying anything, he took Doc's hand. He pulled him into the bed with him and snuggled against his chest.
"You don't even want to change your clothes?" the tall brunette laughed, stroking his hair again.
"Doesn't matter," he mumbled already half asleep.
"Okay Bdubs," Doc said softly. He stroked his head until he heard his steady breathing. "I love you," he whispered.
I'm posting a little bonus scene to my drabbles book the moment this goes up, so go check that out if you want a short hurt/comfort :)
