Hold On (Bdoc)
Au: Permadeath
Word Count: ~1.1k
Quick Note: I eventually want to make this into a comic, but that won't be for a while.
"God we're such idiots," Doc laughed, climbing to his feet. He just missed another blow as the Wither charged on.
"I can't believe someone would just spawn a Wither out in the open like this!" Bdubs exclaimed as he swung at the Wither, landing a good blow. But not good enough as a skull is sent flying at his face.
"Bdubs!" The hybrid launched himself at his friend, tackling him to the ground as skulls fly over them.
"Doc! Are you okay?" Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Bdubs could feel his heart racing. Doc was so close to him, not to mention on top of him.
"Yeah, I'm fine, but what about you?" Doc asked. The hermit underneath him nodded, as the hybrid quickly deflected another attack. He jumped up and charged the Wither. The freckled hermit tried to find his regular sword in his inventory when he remembered.
A weird glitch had caused practically everything to disappear. A sword popped up in his inventory, and like Doc's, it was a regular, unenchanted iron sword. "What a wonderful time to lose items to a glitch," the freckled hermit mumbled. All he wanted was to spend some quality time with his friend.
"Well don't just sit there!" Doc shouted, shooting an arrow. He cursed to himself as his bow broke. A skull smacked him in the face, startling him.
"Doc!" Bdubs cried. One of the three heads spun to face him, and the shorter brunette was knocked off his feet as a blue wither skull hurtled into his chest. Meanwhile, the taller brunette stumbled and hardly had time to shake it off when another skull literally took his breath away by driving into his stomach. Doc dropped to his knees, bending over. He coughed as he realized he was down to only two, shaky hearts.
Bdubs ducked as a skull that came flying at his right shoulder. At the same time, a skull snuck up on him and dug into his left side. Gritting his teeth, the hermit ignored his three hearts and clutched his heavily damaged sword. He charged the Wither as skulls whizzed by him, grazing his face, and yet right before he could swing the monster screamed in agony.
Doc had stood up, and deflected two more skulls before landing a hefty blow on the Wither. His golden carrots suddenly returned to his inventory, and just as the hermit reached for them, they disappeared again. The giant monster took the opportunity of the distraction to shoot projectiles at him.
Doc was now at half a heart.
Bdubs cried out in horror as he watched his friend disappear over the cliffside.
It was like slow motion, as the two made eye contact. Bdubs could see the terror and shock in Doc's eyes.
The Wither's full attention was now on him and began bombarding him with attacks. The hermit felt it harder to dodge skulls the more they came at him.
Bdubs was now at one heart.
The freckled builder, with incredibly low durability on his sword, swung as hard as he could. The sword broke, in perfect timing too as the Wither fell over. Breathing heavily as he watched the dead monster's body disintegrate, Bdubs could feel himself starting to cry. He stumbled towards the crumbling cliff and dropped to his knees. He couldn't stop the tears from flowing down his cheeks, blurring his vision.
That's when he heard it. Peering over the cliff, he wiped his eyes and gasped. Doc was clinging onto a small ledge. The hybrid looked up, relieved to see his friend was alright. He, on the other hand, felt his arms growing weaker by the second. Bdubs reached down, offering a hand. "Don't worry, I got you," he reassured him. Feeling a sense of relief, the taller hermit grasped his friend's hand.
The rock he was bracing himself with fell out of the cliff and down to the ground, which neither Bdubs nor Doc could see. Doc tried to reach for Bdubs with his other arm, but it was just too tired.
The shorter brunette felt the other hermit's hand slipping from his weak grasp.
Doc desperately tried to find some form of footing, even the smallest ledge would do. But nothing. "Bdubs.." he whispered, feeling terrified as he stared down, trying to see if there was some water he could try and land in. From what he could see, there wasn't much.
"Hey, don't look down there, look at me, okay?" Bdub's voiced cracked, as they gripped onto Doc's creeper hand. The hybrid stared at his friend with terror in his eyes.
"Help," he'd whisper again, his voice more hoarse than before. Just then, his hand slipped.
"Doc!" the ground under Bdubs began to crack, and he could feel the earth under him slowly shift.
"Save yourself," Doc pleaded.
"No, I'm not letting you go!" he insisted.
"But then you'll die too!"
"I'll be fine, and so will you," Bdubs promised, despite not believing it himself.
"Just let me go, you can get to safety!"
"I don't care!" the shorter brunette cried out. For some reason, this made the hybrid angry.
"Why not?!" he shouted back.
"Because I love you!" the builder blurted out, tears running down his face. His eyes widen, shocked at what he said.
And so was Doc.
"I love you too," he smiled, a single tear escaping his creeper eye. Bdubs grinned, but unfortunately, the moment didn't last long. The earth beneath him crumbled, sending the two plummeting towards the ground.
As they fell, Doc reached out, wrapping his arms around Bdubs, pulling him into a kiss. As more tears flew out of their eyes, the taller brunette kissed his forehead. "It's gonna be okay," he murmured. As the shorter brunette clung onto the love of his life, he watched the ground creep closer and closer. Acting quickly, Doc waited for the right moment. A low-durability elytra appeared and he snatched it.
Bdubs could see the cold stone ground more clearly than ever. "I love you so much, Doc," he muttered into his ear, not even realizing an elytra was being draped over his shoulders.
"I've always loved you, Bdubs, never doubt that," Doc smiled at him, before kissing him again.
The ground was right there.
Bdubs wasn't ready to die, not like this.
"Please forgive me," Doc quickly whispered, before kissing the confused hermit one last time. He gave the man he's loved since forever a hard shove.
"Doc! What're you-" the elytra's wings opened and sent Bdubs up as the hybrid's body reached the cold stone.
"DOC!" Bdubs cried.
