AU: Rich People AU (I couldn't think of a name it's literally just the hermits as rich posh people in the modern world ajksghklf)

It's not a songfic it's just inspired by Hamilton because Helpless was stuck in my head and all I could think - as a surprise to no one - was Bdoc. So here, take it, enjoy it. Also, now you may be thinking 'if Helpless was stuck in your head then why is it called A Winter's Ball?'

Because I like this name better now shut up and read. :)

The night sky was filled with snowflakes sprinkling down on the manor grounds. The bright, full moon was just peeking through clouds as the last of the guests filtered inside.

Bdubs was gazing out one of the tall windows at the snow outside, champagne glass in hand. He could just see his own reflection in the window- his red bandana holding back his spiky brown hair, his tan freckled body mostly covered by a matching red satin dress with a square neck and elbow-length sleeves. The short male turned back around to face the ballroom, just as his friend came up to him. Etho had dawned a dark, moss green suit which paired nicely with his black face mask and tie. His white spiky hair provided a good contrast.

"Is it just me, or is everyone looking at us?" Etho mumbled, lowering his mask for a moment to take a sip of champagne.

"I'm pretty sure they're just looking at you," Bdubs pointed out, glancing around at the other guests. He giggled, drinking his champagne.

"Alright, I came here for one reason only, time to get it over with," he sighed. After downing the rest of his champagne the white-haired friend walked away and approached a tall, brunette bearded man. The tanned male watched him while holding his glass to his lips. He watched the two glide onto the dance floor in time for the next song. They were laughing as they danced, and a part of Bdubs longed to have something like that. The pair kept dancing back over to the same tall hybrid, probably the bearded man's friend. He jumped when all three faces turned to look at him from the other side of the room. Etho, whatever you're thinking, please no. Nervousness shot through his body when the hybrid shook his head. But just when he started to relax, it spiked when the tall stranger made his way over to him.

After taking one more sip, he lowered his glass. The hybrid had dark brunette hair and loomed over him- he must be at least a foot taller. He was wearing a basic black suit with a red tie but made it look like the most stunning thing in the world. While Bdubs' hair was a little messy, his was neat and slicked back. Bdubs' glass was almost empty but his was practically full. He was gorgeous while the shorter suddenly felt like he never looked worse. Maybe the dress was a bad choice. Before he could even say 'hi', the other beat him to it.

"Hello, Bdubs, right? I'm Doc, and your friend Etho wanted me to ask you to dance," he explained, showing no emotion in his voice. If anything, all the freckled brunette could detect was disinterest. It hurt a little to know this gorgeous man wants nothing to do with him, but he understood.

"Oh you don't have to, it's alright," he assured him with a smile. "I won't make you do something you don't want to."

Doc furrowed his brow. "But I do want to."

Blinking, he felt his heart go boom at the deceivingly small comment. "W-Well, alright then!" he managed to say. The two placed their glasses on a nearby table, and a part of him wished he finished his off before being guided to the dance floor. Bdubs' eyes were glued to the taller brunette's face, who was staring right back. The moment they started dancing, he was helpless. His body threatened to melt at any moment. Etho's unmistakable giggles could be heard from behind him and he could only wonder what was going through his mind.

Words slipped from his mouth and they began to converse, learning little things about himself. He was able to register everything Doc was saying, but the sentences he formed didn't feel like his own. Apparently, he was dragged here by Beef, the person Etho was dancing with. Despite knowing nothing more than where he worked - his father's company which he is to inherit in a few short months - and a couple of his interests, something about the way he talked sent Bdubs' heart soaring. How his speech pattern sped up a little when he talked about something he liked, and his quiet and gruff laugh whenever the shorter made a lame joke. And even when the freckled male began to ramble about how much he loved the horses he owned and worked with, not once did the taller look bored.

The song faded away and was replaced by a softer and slower melody. For the first time since Doc approached him, Bdubs looked away, as the hybrid let go of his hand and slid down to his waist. The shorter one wrapped his arms around his neck and slowly looked up again. He wants to talk more, he wants an excuse to hear his voice, but his words were caught in his throat. He tried to focus on the music, the classical sound of violins with a hint of a holiday melody from the piano.

"You're a very interesting person, Bdubs," Doc said, breaking the silence.

"Is that a good thing?" he asked with an awkward laugh.

"I'd say so, yeah." His smile raised his heartbeat yet again and if his self-control was even the slightest bit weaker he would've reached up to steal it with a kiss. But he didn't, and he was pretty sure that was a good thing. Bdubs' gaze shifted to their friends and grinned. The two were very close, whispering and laughing into one another's ear.

"They look happy," he remarked, tilting his head toward Doc ever so slightly. He glanced up in time to see the hybrid nod. He wanted to ask if he ever had something like that before, but the words, along with most of the others, stopped in his throat. Instead, he relished the moment, selfishly wishing the dancing would never end. Though he tried not to, it was hard not to think of the inevitable end of the evening- when the two would go their separate ways. Maybe it wouldn't be the last time they saw each other, but who's to say the magic wouldn't vanish the moment they exited the manor?

Bdubs' worries were washed away when the taller man leaned down to whisper in his ear as the music ended, "Would you mind if we spoke somewhere a little more private?"

Holding onto his arm, Bdubs allowed the darker brunette to lead him out of the ballroom and into the hallway. They stopped in the doorway of one of the smaller balconies.

"This may sound weird, but since I first laid eyes on you tonight, these... feelings blossomed inside me," Doc confessed, gazing outside at the falling snow.

The shorter male was almost positive he no longer had a beating heart.

"It's not weird!" he blurted out. After taking a moment to collect himself, he added, "I understand how you feel." He tried to sound calm, but it was fairly hard to mask the giddiness in his voice.

"You're beautiful, you know that?" Doc breathed as he touched his cheek. Bdubs felt his face flush and brought his hand up to cover the ladder's. "How is it that I've only known you for a short while, yet I'm absolutely infatuated by you?" he murmured.

"You are going to kill me with your words," he quietly joked. He hesitantly took the other's hand into his again, but once he did he squeezed it. "I... I want to get to know you better, and I don't ever want this feeling of euphoria to die," Bdubs explained with a strained voice.

Doc's thumb brushed over his lips while he studied his face. "I know exactly what you mean," he smiled, leaning down. He let go of his hand to properly cup his face and the lighter brunette moved his hands to the other's chest, lightly gripping the fabric of the suit jacket.

With their lips only inches apart, they hesitated only once before kissing. Bdubs' chest exploded as he pressed into the kiss. He melted into the affection and once again felt helpless. Words couldn't describe precisely how he was feeling, and all he knew was not going to let go of this man.

When they eventually pulled away, Doc pressed their foreheads together and gently rubbed his freckled cheeks. A soft laugh slipped from the shorter's chest.

As luck would have it, Beef had decided to go home with Etho, so Bdubs had no objections to going back to Doc's place. They stepped out of the manor, hands intertwined as the cold, winter night air greeted them. Once in the car, they exchanged soft kisses and stories until they got to the house.

Maybe now would be a good time to remind y'all that while I wasn't uploading in January, I did a shit ton of Bdoc writing. This is just the beginning.
