Broken Wings
TFC looks up at the hermits flying in front of him. Who knows what they were playing, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves, all of them were smiling and laughing along. At least they were until one of them spotted him.
"Hey TFC, what's up?" Grian asked as he landed next the the oldest hermit.
"Oh, nothing, I just come here to relax, you know? Since I can't really fly anywhere and this place is close to my base, it's the perfect place to de-stress," he explained, looking out at the view displayed in front of them.
"Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what happened to your wings? I know that everybody's born with them, right? Or did you never have a pair?" Grian asked curiously.
TFC thought for a moment, not really sure about how to explain to the younger hermit. "I did once have my wings. But I lost them in an accident a long time ago."
Grian's eyes widened and he felt empathy for the older man. "I'm so sorry about that."
"Don't worry about it, I can move around just fine," he chuckled.
"How did it happen?"
"Well, I was an avid flyer, just like you," he smiled at Grian, who was listening intently. "And I used to hang out with one of my friends a lot. We would fly around, do some pranks here and there, just normal things that teens and young adults do. We were flying all day and we never took a break. Sure, we stopped whenever we had an idea for a prank, but we kept flying afterwards. We were reckless as young teens and we never thought about consequences. I was exhausted after a long day of flying, but we were on our way to create a new prank, so I couldn't just stop right there, right?"
Grian nodded.
"My wings just gave out mid-flight. I couldn't flap them, all the flying had drained my energy and I was falling from the sky. When I reached the ground, I landed on my back, crushing my wings in the process." He looked up at Grian, a serious look on his face that also showed regret. "They broke. I couldn't use them anymore, so I got them removed."
"I thought that wings couldn't break! They're repairable, right?" Grian freaked out.
"Wings can be healed, just like cuts, but," TFC picked up a small twig from the ground next to him, "once they're broken," he snapped the twig in half, "they're broken. You can't fix or heal them."
Grian gasped. "I can't imagine not being able to use my wings anymore, it must be horrible."
"You get used to traveling by foot and boat, it's just that... I feel a bit left out with you guys. Being older is one thing that makes me different, but not having wings makes it harder to hang out with people that do," he explained.
"You can always hang out with me, just text me if you ever feel like it, yeah?" Grian smiled and pointed to his communicator.
"I appreciate the invitation, but I don't want to bore you with all the walking."
"You won't!" Grian said.
"Grian, come on!" Mumbo called from far away.
Grian looked back at TFC with a sad expression. He was about to apologize before TFC spoke out. "Don't worry about it, get back to your friends," he smiled.
"Thank you. I'll see you later, okay?" he asked.
"Of course, stay safe."
Grian flew away, a sad expression still on his face as he looked back at TFC. "What were you talking about?" Xisuma asked, noticing his expression.
"I'll tell you guys later in a meeting, alright? But, we can't invite TFC," he explained, earning looks of confusion from the rest of the hermits.

TFC looked down at his communicator, he had just received a message from Xisuma to go to the shopping district for a meeting.
He made his way to where the other hermits were. In the center was Grian with a big smile on his face. "I know that you don't have your wings, so I explained to the others and..." Grian held up a pair of strap-on wings. "Everybody came together and made these for you," he held them out towards TFC.
"Really? You all did that for me?" he asked, taking a few steps forward and putting on the pair of wings.
"Of course, you deserve it!" Xisuma smiled, earning mumbles of agreement from the group.
"They work just like these ones, except you can repair and replace these," Grian explained.
A tear escaped TFC's eyes, but he quickly wiped it away as he flapped his wings. He was struck to silence, not knowing what to say. Then he hugged Grian. One by one, more hermits joined in on the hug. And they stayed there for a while, before splitting up.
"Thank you guys so much!"
"Wanna test them out?" Xisuma asked.
"Of course!" TFC exclaimed as they all flew up together.
~~~~
Happy ending! And I wanted to do this since there aren't many TFC-focused oneshots.
