Put on a show*
Scar brushed his hair and plopped on his wizard cap. He rubbed his cats head and smiled. Today would be a good day.
Stepping into his mayoral suit, he straightened his tie and sash. He looked in the mirror and was horrified at what he saw.
Dark, sunken eyes. A glare that could pierce iron. He had brushed his hair, but it was still a mess. His suit was wrinkly and stiff.
How could he continue living like this? Still, he told himself, today was going to be good. He was going to help with road production, hold a HEP meeting, walk his dogs.
But everyday he put on the mask. He was the mayor! He had to be perfect. It was a struggle, yes, and some people don't like him, but he was trying.
Gossip had spread around the server. "Scar is ruthless," "He'll lock you up if you don't behave," "Why did we elect him?" Whenever he heard this, he wanted to fly home and cry.
Most hermits didn't realize, but this server was falling apart. He and Grian were tense, and Scar didn't know why.
The only people that wanted to hang out with Scar anymore were Bdubs and Cub, and that was because of HEP.
Scar tried to brighten himself up by smiling, but he still looked dead. He sat down on his bed and held his face in his hands. He wanted to cry, but Jellie rubbed up against his side and he couldn't help but smile.
Putting on a straight face, he flew out of his base and into his nether portal. Bdubs had urged him to just move to the Shopping District, that it would be easier. Scar had shrugged off the suggestion.
Most of his friends already seemed distant, and he didn't want to move away entirely.
He swooped past a horde of piglins and into the shopping district portal. No one seemed to be around, so he grabbed his dog's leads and pulled them off the fence post.
Their little HEP outfits were really cute, and they loved to kill at the Resistance sheep that were spreading the disgusting mycelium.
Just as he started marching down the street, Stress swooped down out of nowhere and landed near Mumbo's shop. He tried to smile and wave at her, but either she didn't see him or was avoiding him.
Probably avoiding you, his mind whispered.
"Stop," he hissed and stopped walking. "Great. I'm talking to myself." He stomped his foot. "I'm doing it again- THERE I GO AGAIN-"
"Scar?" a meek voice called from behind. I turned around, holding back tears. It was Cub. "Yeah...?" Scar replied, wishing he could just sit down and cry. "You okay?" He asked. Scar wiped his face and nodded. "I'm fine. Is everything alright?"
Cub rubbed the back of his neck and glanced over at Stress, who looked like she was having a panic attack. Mumbo was consoling her, but he didn't seem to be doing much.
Cub strode over to the pair, but they hurried inside of Mumbo's shop before he could get there.
Scar took a deep breath, grabbed his dog's leads and walked over to Mumbo's shop, ready to confront the pair.
