Partners in Crime, Legends Never Die (Song Fic) [Ren and Iskall]
(April 6, 2020)
(Hey guys. This is a double song fic. Dedicated to _Ash-Potato_.
I'm using the original versions. Same as my other song fics, I will cut out repetitive parts. Apologies if the formatting gets all messed up, something went wrong when I copied the lyrics over.
Enjoy, peeps.)
(Warning: Blood. Death.)
[...City AU? Yeah. City AU. Evil Ren and Iskall? Kinda.]
You'll never takes us alive
We swore that death will do us part
They'll call our crimes a work of art
"What are you doing," Iskall asked, not enough variation in his voice for it to sound like a question. Ren looked up from his paper that he was furiously writing on. He leaned back and examined the paper, propping him foot up on the desk.
"Uh, making a plan... for once," Ren added at Iskall's unbelieving eyebrow raise. Iskall stepped behind Ren, squinting at the scrawl on the paper.
"Where today?" Iskall slipped his enchanted diamond sword in his sheath, diamond eye flashing.
"That honey and rock shop thing." Ren answered, holding the paper up for Iskall.
"Why?"
"I heard that there were valuables hiding somewhere in there." Ren smirked. Iskall chuckled before heading towards the door.
You'll never takes us alive
We'll live like spoiled royalty, lovers and partners
Partners in crime
Iskall grinned, yanking the door open. The two of them, under the cover of the night, snuck through the city. The roads were desolate, the night sky only slightly cloudy. The only sounds in the city were the crickets, the soft breeze, and the occasional car that passed by.
This, the tale of, reckless love, living a life of crime on the run
I brush to a gun to paint these states green and red
"Come on, we're almost there." Ren muttered, dragging Iskall by the wrist. They climbed the steps of the shop, entering as quietly as they possibly could.
Everybody freeze, nobody move, put the money in the bag
Or we will shoot, empty out the vault and me and my doll will be on our way
"No one's here, hurry." Iskall whispered, beginning to look for valuables. A few minutes later, Ren yanked a piece of stone up, finding a hidden chest. He pulled the top open with a grunt, quietly gasping at the amount of treasures in it. It almost glowed the blue tint diamonds were.
Iskall and Ren began to loot the chest as quickly as they could.
Our paper faces flood the streets
And if the heat comes close enough to burn then we'll play with fire, 'cause
You'll never takes us alive
"Go go go." Ren rushed Iskall towards the door, only to be stopped by another voice.
"Hello, boys." A familiar British voice said from the darkness in the shop. Xisumavoid stepped out of the shadows with a tilt of his head. "Fancy seeing you here at this time of the night."
Here we find our omnipotent outlaws fall behind the grind tonight
Left unaware that the lone store owner won't go down without a fight.
"Do you really think you can get away with this?" Xisuma asked with a tilt of his head. He stalked to the entrance, blocking it off. The two wouldn't be able to escape.
Iskall sneered at the store owner, twirling his sword. Xisuma frowned, knowing the Iskall was the better PvPer.
"Where we gonna go," Ren murmured, anxiously looking over his shoulder and at the door.
"He's got us pinned," answered Iskall, leveling his sword at X.
"Baby, I'm a little scared," Ren said, hand brushing Iskall's.
"Now, don't you quit," Iskall advanced, catching Xisuma off guard. The two dueled for a few minutes, before Xisuma started tiring. He had put up a good defense, but it wasn't enough. Iskall eventually backed Xisuma towards Ren.
"He's sounded the alarm, I hear the sirens closing in," With a growl, Ren harshly pushed Xisuma away.
The poor bee-man hit his head on one of the barrels, falling to the floor unconscious.
Turning and dashing through the entrance, Iskall escaped the store, sliding the sword back where it belonged. Ren closely followed him, tripping down the stairs. Both ran through the street, laughing at their successful robbery. The cops were far behind and they were almost home. It was perfect.
Our paper faces flood the streets
And if the heat comes close enough to burn then we're burning this place to the ground, 'cause
You'll never takes us alive
"Stop where you are, put your hands up and turn to us!" A deep voice behind them said. Iskall and Ren shared a concerned look, not expecting to be caught.
"Right now, or we will shoot!" The same voice yelled. Ren put his hands behind his head, Iskall following with a sneer on his face. They slowly turned towards the officers.
"R-Ren? Iskall?" Doc asked, the grip on his trident faltering.
"Hi there, Doc." Iskall said, a smirk on his face.
"Stop it. Stay there, and this will go peacefully." Doc continued, voice as cold as ice and hard as steel. The officers slowly came forward, like a car approaching its prey. They held their weapons at the ready.
Iskall's hand suddenly dropped towards his sword, grabbing it in a flash. He charged, weapon raised above his head.
And Doc released his trident.
The skies are black with lead-filled rain
A morbid painting on display
This is the night the young love died
Buried at each others side
Iskall fell to the floor, the trident impaling his stomach. Ren closely followed after, slumping to the ground. The tridents returned to their owners, Doc and Scar respectively. They looked regretful, but were just doing their job.
"We don't die..." Iskall weakly muttered, clawing at the asphalt in agonizing pain. "We never die..." He chuckled to himself. Ren stayed silent, staring at the blood on his hands. Doc knelt down next to Iskall, tilting his head curiously.
"So, you two were the ones who were stealing from stores. Huh." He said. Because there was a supply shortage in the city, the punishment for committing such an act would be death.
"See you on the other side." Doc said, standing up. The light faded from the thieves' eyes.
You never took us alive
We swore that death would do us part
So now we haunt you in the dark
Iskall and Ren simultaneously gasped, sitting up with a jolt. The area around them seemed black, dark like the void. Ren brought his hands up in front of his face. They were translucent. He looked towards Iskall, noticing he was having the same problem. Iskall tried to put his hand on the floor, but it went straight through.
Both their visions flashed, then cleared with a bang. They were back in the city. Their bodies were on the floor, still and definitely dead. Their blood pooled on the floor. The officers collected the corpses up, moving them away from the public eye.
You never took us alive
We live as ghosts among these streets
Lovers and partners, partners in crime
Partners in crime
Partners in crime
The duo were floating around in what was called spectator mode. And would stay like that forever, until...
-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-
Legends never die
When the world is callin' you
Can you hear them screaming out your name?
"Are they seriously still talking about us?" Ren asked, frustration starting to enter his voice.
"No. Yes. I don't know." Iskall said, staring at a wall.
"Like, I hear out names being said, I just... that's usually people. I just don't know," Ren said, sighing.
"It's been many years, Ren. I doubt anyone remembers." Iskall sighed, bored out of his mind.
"If you say so..." Ren didn't sound so sure, though.
Legends never die
They become a part of you
Every time you bleed for reaching greatness
"We tried, we really did." He was trying to be positive, but nothing was working. His heart and mind was still sulking from what happened years ago. Ren's hand traveled to his chest, where the trident impaled him.
"Mhm." Iskall hummed.
"I don't think it was worth it." They both had watched the city change. They watched the laws change. The economy got better, but their deaths didn't matter. Even if they were still alive, it wouldn't have mattered. Everything gets better eventually.
"Mhm." Iskall sighed through his nose.
"Is that all you're going to say?" Ren asked.
"... Mhm." Smirking, Iskall turned around and looked at another building's wall, studying it's familiar patterns.
Relentless, you survive
They never lose hope when everything's cold and the fighting's near
It's deep in their bones, they'll ride into smoke when the fire is fierce
"Eaugh, I'm tired." Ren groaned. Iskall rolled his eyes. He's always tired. He's been saying that for a year or two. "What are we supposed to do, suffer here for more years?" Iskall stayed quiet and only shrugged in response.
Legends never die
They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
"So, remind me how we got here again?" Ren said, finally turning and looking at Iskall.
"Your plan failed." Iskall a monotone voice.
"What? No, I mean what events took place." Iskall laughed, nudging Ren in the side. Ren scoffed.
"I know, bro, I'm kidding. The po-po got us. We didn't lay our weapons down." Iskall replied, hand subconsciously going to where the trident killed him.
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
"Come on, lets so somewhere else? It's boring and... need to go to a different place. We've been here for ages. Forever." Iskall said, sitting up with a grunt.
After an hour, they couldn't find a new place. They settled back to where they were previously.
For some reason, now Iskall felt tired also. It wasn't from lack of sleep, no, they were ghosts, they didn't need sleep. Iskall felt... tired of life... or lack, thereof. Maybe he was done with being a spectator with prospering life in front of his eyes that he could never experience.
Legends never die
When the world is calling you
Can you hear them screamin' out your name?
"Dude, Iskall..." Ren said after sitting silently for a few hours. Iskall turned to Ren, one eyebrow raised.
"Yes?"
"Could it be the void?" Ren sat up, looking at Iskall's reaction. Iskall also sat up, scratching his beard.
"What do you mean?" He questioned.
"You know, kinda like Heaven, the Afterlife, Underworld... places after you finally die." Ren explained, waving his hands around as he spoke. Iskall leaned away, avoiding a whack to the back of the head. "I guess the void was waiting for the perfect time to let us in. We tried earlier." He added at the end, thinking out loud to himself.
"Why is spectator mode a thing then?" Iskall asked. Ren paused, then shrugged.
Legends never die
They become a part of you
Every time you bleed for reaching greatness
"Good question that I don't have an answer for. Shall we go, then?" Iskall nodded. Both of them floated down, into the grass, through the stone, and finally, the bedrock.
With a nervous glance to each other, the two of them were engulfed by the void.
However, Iskall couldn't help but sneak a tired last-minute look upwards, giving an evil smirk with one final thought in his head.
Legends never die.
(pft this is longer than some of my story chapters.)
