Worth
Grian sometimes wondered if the other hermits liked having him around.
It was a question he'd asked himself many times, and every time he always came to the conclusion that the answer was no. But now, sitting on top of his build in Hermitville, he couldn't help but doubt that.
He was looking back at everything he'd done while on the server, creating a server wide game of tag, starting the Architechs, starting a war and now hes started another war. (Well it was more of a build-off but you get the idea.)
To be honest Grian wasn't really over the war yet, and he probably never will be. They always said it was all in good fun, but to him it was far from fun. The way Doc had been so excited at the prospect of an all out war for the last two flags didn't really help either. He jumped when anyone snuck up on him, he was more cautious and quiet around his fellow hermits. Grian didn't think anyone noticed, but they did. They just didn't know why he was suddenly like this, and they were too afraid to ask.
And now he had started a second war, and he knew he couldn't do this a second time. So he did what any sane person would do and decided to move the entirety of his building to a different location, with the help of some Watcher magic, of course. (He also made sure no one was there before using his powers.)
And now, thousands of blocks away from the others, Grian relaxed. No more build fighting for him. Deciding no one was going to find this for a while he called Maui and Perl here, he needed their company right now. Falling asleep, in one of the many upstairs rooms, he felt the worries of the world melt away and it was just him and his familiars.
Unbeknownst to him, most of the hermits had just gotten back to the village (The plot demanded it) to find the towering build gone. They all started to panic, what happened while they were gone? Walking over to where it once stood they inspected the area, but there was nothing to be seen but a piece of paper, no fire damage on the ground, and no TNT crater. Xisuma thought maybe something went wrong in the code so he checked only to find nothing, the building had been removed by hand. Everyone gathered looked at each other, who could remove a giant build like that so quickly by hand? They had only been gone for about two hours and no one had been in the village, right? X sighed and checked who had been here, the results shocked him.
"Well? Who has been here?", asked and impatient Cub, and all the other nodded in agreement, they were all curious.
The admin opened his mouth, though no one could see it, before closing it. He couldn't really talk right now. So instead of telling he showed them the results.
The only one who had been in the village while they'd all been gone was Grian.
Mumbo was the first to speak, "Did-did Grian do this?", it was the only logical solution, who else could have done it? "Why? He loved that build! He was so proud of it!"
The others could honestly not answer, why would he do this? Did it have something to do with how he has been acting lately? It was now that Doc actually looked at the paper, and found text.
"Hey, everyone!" everyone turned to him, confusion clear in their faces, "It's a note! And it has Grian's handwriting!"
They all crowded around the creeper hybrid, all wanting to see for themselves. And he wasn't lying, that was the builders handwriting, it was as clear as day that he left the note.
Iskall was getting impatient, "Well? Read it out loud! We all want to know what is says!"
The others all nodded their agreements (Wow, they nod a lot in this one-shot!)
"If you're reading this than I have taken my house and left the village, and I will most likely not return. But I'm not leaving completely, only moving one structure away from the rest of you. I'm now as far away from you as possible without being too far away. I love you all dearly, trust me, but I ask you all not to look for me. I can't be around you all if your going to fight, I can't do that, not again. So I'll most likely be gone for a few days, but I will come back.
-Love, Grian"
A shocked silence swept over the group, Grian had left Hermitville? Because of them?
While everyone was trying to figure out where Grian had gone, Doc looked at the note closer. And he spotted a few peculiar things, first of all his writing had gotten shakier as he was writing getting really shaky towards the end, second of all there where what looked to be tear stains around the text talking about war.
As he thought of all of this, a thought struck him. And thinking about it now, it all made sense. Why Grian was so quiet and cautious, why he was scared, terrified even! Not wanting this thing to last forever, he quickly informed everyone of his discoveries.
"Hey, guys? I think I know why Grian left", once again this got the groups attention but they were more eager to listen now, "He's scared that we, well three of you more specifically,-" here Doc looked at Iskall, Mumbo and Scar, "-will hate him if he were to have stayed and continued building on his base. As he said he can't deal with another war, the other war being the Civil War, I believe the second war is the build off that's been going on"
After the group let everything sink in they stated planing, and first on the list was to find Grian and apologize.
Unbeknownst to them a figure had been watching them. As they went to get ready, he left. A few minor commands later, he stood at the entrance to the builders tower house. He entered the house, a smile forming on his face. Moving up the stairs he got to a decently sized room with a kitchen and a table with chairs, he took off his helmet to reveal EX's scarred face. He put down his helmet on the table and moved to the main bedroom, opening the door he was met with the most adorable sight ever. Grian was curled up with his two familiars, wings wrapped around the three of them like a cocoon.
EX really didn't want to wake Grian, but he demanded cuddles from his little love. So the younger Void twin gently shook him awake, and after a few seconds Grian's eyes started to flutter open. EX always loved these moments, where it was just him and Grian.
Deciding that Grian was getting up to slow he quickly kissed him and then immediately pulled back. And as usual Grian wined but got up, no one denied him his morning kisses with his boyfriend.
Letting EX get out of his suit Grian made his way to the kitchen area, a late lunch was in order. He decided to make a quick cheese casserole, and halfway through a strong pair of scarred arms wrapped around him.
Letting out a little giggle he set what he was doing down to give EX a proper hug. Burrowing his face in the crock of EX's neck, he couldn't be happier. If only the others didn't judge EX so hard, then they wouldn't have to hide. Grian was surprised no one had figured it out yet, not even TFC knew.
"What are you thinking about, little dragon?" asked EX, a smile on his face. He really didn't care what he was thinking about, as long as the happy grin that had formed on Grian's face stayed he was okay.
"How no one has found out about us yet, I mean it's not like where trying to hide it too much!" said Grian, his happy grin becoming more apparent than before.
"That is one of the universes many unanswered questions, isn't it?" agreed EX, "Just like how I got so lucky to meet you"
A blush quickly spread along Grian's cheeks and nose, the builder trying to hide it to the best of his abilities, attempting to save face he hissed out, "Xeres!"
Xeres' laugh echoed around the house as Grian went back to making lunch, a carefree atmosphere surrounded the house as the two lovers sat down to eat.
Back at the village it was way more gloomy, not literally, but it felt the same as a gloomy day. Every hermit blamed themselves in one way or another. Some, like Doc, blamed themselves because of their involvement, while people like Joe, blame themselves for not doing anything to help.
Bonus:
As night fell upon the village, a small figure slipped out of Scar's rocket and made its way to the ground.
Climbing the village walls the creature quickly traversed thousands of blocks and soon it came upon a towering build, it slinked in and made its way to the upper floors.
Once it was in the kitchen it made its way to the nearest pantry, clumsily opening the door it found the thing inside. But before it could open it's treat a pair of arms picked it up, the creature let out an undignified mew as Xeres looked at it with tired eyes.
"Just because Grian, Maui and Pearl like you, doesn't mean that you can come and steal cat treats at 2 in the morning" was the thing he said, voice gravelly from sleep.
It mewed again, trying to wiggle free from him to get back to its treats.
Sighing, the Void twin set it down to then yell out to Grian, "Grian!"
"What?" a muffled voice called back.
"Jellie's raiding your pantry!"
"First of all, it's our pantry, and second of all just take her away from there and bring her here! If she visits she'll usually want cuddles, or treats, or both"
Sighing again, Xer picked up Jellie, giving the cat a few treats to satisfy her, and made his way to the bedroom. When he entered Grian looked to have fallen asleep again, and judging by the extra space next to his familiars he had prepared a place for Jellie to sleep for the night.
Setting the cat down he crawled into bed again, Grian instinctively curled up in his arms. It was moments like this EX truly adored, just him his love and the comfort of there soft bed.
Falling asleep, Xeres let his worries wash away.
But the peaceful atmosphere was broken when Scar teleported into there room looking for Jellie the next morning. A lot of threatening later and he swore himself to silence.
This is my longest story yet with almost 2 000 words! A part 2 may come out, but it may take awhile. As always I would like to thank my lovely beta reader @Amberangle965.
But with all this out of the way, I wish you all a lovely existence! Bye!
