Day 5

I was watching Tango's Among Us videos and found these quotes which are great out-of-context:
"Etho you're wearing far too little clothing for my liking." -Ren
"I WANNA STAB SOMEBODY!" -Tango (ok this really isn't that weird)

Okay, moving on.

-------------------------------

The Architechs were awoken by a loud alarm.

"AGH!" Grian jerked awake, fell out of the tree, and caught himself before he hit the ground, flying up to survey the area.

Iskall hopped nimbly down out of the tree, landing next to Mumbo, who'd been left below.

Grian landed in front of them in a panicked state. "Run, run, run!" he yelled over the blaring noise and dashed into the woods, leaving no time for questions.

Iskall and Mumbo followed and the three ran into the forest.

"Grian, can you explain?" Iskall yelled.

"Walls- fifth day- crush- run-" Grian choked out.

"What?" Mumbo exclaimed.

"The walls close in on the fifth day and they'll crush us if we don't run!" Grian said.

Iskall and Mumbo didn't know how to respond to that, so they just followed him.

They emerged from the forest to find the altar where they had started. False, Wels, and Bdubs emerged from the forest across from them.

"Grian," False said coldly.

"Hello, False," Grian replied cheerily. He seemed to have calmed down and was no longer panicking.

False walked up to Grian and pulled out her sword, a shiny, sharpened diamond blade. She tapped Grian's chest with the tip and he shuddered. "False?"

"You put us all in here, forced us into the Hunger Games, and I will have my revenge. More than that, you have wings and knowledge of this that made the Games unfair," she listed. She drew her blade across Grian's arm and he yelped, stumbling back as it easily sliced through his sweater.

"W-what?" Grian asked, eyes wide and confused.

"You have put us in here, against our will, and now you will pay," she hissed. False slashed at Grian's wings, dying them red with his blood. Grian screamed and jumped away.

"Iskall, now is the time to fulfill your decision," False said, turning and walking towards Iskall.

"Wait- what promise, Iskall?" Mumbo asked.

Iskall looked guilty and replied, "I- a few days ago I told Bdubs I'd betray you and Grian when False came to kill you."

"WHAT?" Mumbo yelled in shock.

"It was the first night and I was mad, too! I'm not anymore and..." Iskall took a deep breath. "I won't help you."

"Really? Bad choice," False threw her sword into Iskall's chest. Grian screamed and Mumbo stood in shock.

Wels stepped forward shakily. "I don't want to help you anymore. I didn't realize you'd be doing this."

False rolled her eyes. "Coward. So you're a traitor as well? Fine. You chose this."

False pulled her sword out of Iskall's dead body, which vanished as soon as she did, turned and threw it at Wels, aiming to kill. Wels leaped out of the way.

"Bdubs, you take them, I'll deal with him," False said, sliding past Wels and grabbing her sword. She turned and nimbly sliced at Wels' throat. He blocked it and swung at her, but she parried and stabbed at him. He twisted aside her blade, but she flipped backwards and stalked around him.

Meanwhile, Bdubs stomped up to Grian, who was backed up against a tree, wings and arm dripping with blood. Grian whimpered as Bdubs pressed his sword up against his uncut arm, a strange madness in his eyes. Bdubs slowly drew his sword across Grian's arm and Grian cried out in pain, crumpling to the ground.

Mumbo angrily pushed Bdubs aside. "What are you doing?" Mumbo yelled.

"Getting my revenge. None of us asked for this," Bdubs replied, his voice dripping with unusual venom.

"This isn't like you, Bdubs," Mumbo said.

"Don't care, did Grian ask before doing this? No, he didn't," Bdubs retorted.

"Why are you torturing him?" Mumbo exclaimed.

Bdubs rolled his eyes and swung his sword at Mumbo. Mumbo twisted underneath it, barely avoiding being decapitated, grabbed the hilt and redirected the blow to hit Bdubs instead.

"Your head is no longer your property, Bdubs," Mumbo said angrily as he ran over to Grian.

False and Wels were still dueling. False faltered when Bdubs died. Wels, seeing an opportunity, leaned in, trying to strike her when she was vulnerable, but in doing so, he left himself vulnerable. False seized the chance and drove her sword between the chinks of Wels' armor. Wels gasped as the sword went through his heart.

False withdrew her blade and glanced around. She, Mumbo, and Grian were the only ones still alive after the bloodbath. Grian had survived? She was not letting him see another day.

She crept up behind Mumbo, who was leaning over Grian. She saw Grian's eyes widen and he called out, but it was too late.

Mumbo glanced down in surprise at the sword sticking out of his chest, then slid off it and vanished.

Grian looked up in horror, terror, fear, and pain at False, who was standing over him with a cold look in her eyes. Crazed? At least that was some justification. But False seemed completely sane. She was just a flat-out murderer.

"I won't make this quick, Grian," she said before filling the air with the sound of his screams as she tortured him.

-------------------------------

Xisuma and Stress hadn't made it to the altar, but they heard the sounds of fighting. The walls had stopped closing in some time before, but they didn't trust them to stay still anymore. Worried, they headed to the center. As they walked, they heard Grian start screaming and began to run. It took them a few minutes to get to the source of the sound, but it was a few minutes too long for them, worried as they were.

They burst out of the leaves to find False standing over a sobbing and bloody Grian, red sword in her hand.

Xisuma dashed over and angrily slashed at her, but False dodged. The momentum carried his sword forward and he narrowly missed hitting Grian, who stared up at him wide-eyed. Xisuma whipped around and lashed at False, ignoring Stress' cries of "Wait!"

False grinned evilly and fought with him for a bit before easily slashing open his leg. Smirking, she turned and stalked off into the forest. She'd decided that watching her victims suffer was much more fun than killing them.

With False gone, Stress rushed up to Grian, ignoring Xisuma. Xisuma wasn't upset at her; they'd heard Grian's cries and he was in much worse shape than the admin.

Grian recoiled at Stress' touch. Stress sat in front of him and softly said, "Grian, I won' 'urt you, I want to help."

The gremlin reluctantly allowed Stress to carefully pick him up and carry him to a small stream on the side of the clearing. Quickly, she dragged Xisuma over to the stream as well. Stress pulled Grian's sweater off, leaving him in just a T-shirt. She washed off his face, arms, and wings, which were the areas that False had cut. Stress didn't have many supplies to work with, so she tore up Grian's sweater into rags and used them as makeshift bandages to cover the worst of the wounds. Grian was too weak to protest.

When she'd finished, she looked up at Xisuma. Xisuma had washed and covered his own wounds, which were luckily not too deep.

"Grian, luv, do ya' wanna tell us wha' 'appened?" Stress asked.

Grian revived a bit at the cold water and gasped, "I-I-I'll t-try."

"You don't have to if you don't want to," Xisuma said.

"I-I'll try," Grian repeated. "M-M-M-Mumbo, Iskall and I-" Grian let out a loud sob.

Stress worriedly glanced at Xisuma. "Grian, it's okay..."

Grian gasped and choked out, "WewereallatthealtarandthenFalseandtheyweredeadand-"

"Slow down, Grian," Xisuma said calmingly.

"W-we were all at the altar and then False and Wels and Bdubs were there and False killed I-I-Iskall..." Grian took a breath in and continued. "F-f-false came and c-cut my wings and Mumbo killed Bdubs but then False k-k-killed Mumbo and W-Wels and-"

Grian stopped as he broke down into tears.

Stress sat next to him and put her arm around him. He winced when she touched his wing and flinched away.

They let him cry for a while. Finally, he looked up. "I-I'm sorry y-y-you all h-hate me. I'm s-s-sorry for p-putting you all i-in the g-g-game. I'm s-s-sorry..."

"Grian, we don't hate you," Xisuma said, surprised. "I don't know what's gotten into False but we don't all hate you."

None of them said anything, but they were soon startled by something falling from the sky.

A tiny chest with a parachute attached fell from the sky and landed behind them. All three hermits spun around to look at it. Stress got up and grabbed it, then walked back over to sit in between Xisuma and Grian. There was a piece of paper taped to the front of the chest.

"We Love Ya Grian," read Stress. She opened the chest. Inside was a stack of golden carrots, two regeneration potions, a wadd of blank paper, and a group of paper-clipped notes.

Stress' eyes widened. "Grian, this is from the other hermits. They want ya ta know that they don't hate ya."

Grian looked over and smiled a bit. "Th-they did this f-f-for me?" he stammered.

"Yeah, Grian," Stress said, handing him the notes. Each one was about a good memory that the hermits had had with Grian.

"S-S-Sahara, the w-war, A-Area 77..." Grian looked through them. "B-but they're not m-mad at me for th-this?"

"No, a few hermits are annoyed that you didn't tell them beforehand or give them a choice, but no one hates you, G," Xisuma told him.

Grian hugged Stress and Stress let him cling to her. Quietly, she said "Grian, can you drink this?"

"W-w-what is i-it?" he asked.

"It's just a regen potion," she answered.

"Okay," Grian let go of her and took the potion gently from Stress' hand, then carefully lifted it to his lips and drank it. Stress was relieved to see the smallest cuts fade and the large ones shrink.

Xisuma gladly took his and happily watched the wounds on his legs heal.

The three sat there for a long time, watching the water flow by.

-------------------------------

*sigh* I suck at fight scenes. I hope this chapter was okay... I don't know why I just feel like it sucks for some reason.
