~Inflicted Fears~
-Headcanon: With Doc being part creeper, he's afraid of cats-
To say the least, Doc tended to get mad at the fact that he was a creeper hybrid quite often. There were just so many disadvantages in his eyes. If he got to upset there was a small chance that he would explode, his constant hissing got on his and he assumed everyone else's nerves, his eye sight wasn't very good but would suddenly increase during the night time which and just plain annoying, and so many other things. He hated being a hybrid, he wasn't even the good kind of hybrid! Like Ren or Grian. Grian could fly and Ren was a wolf which sounded at least enjoyable. But being a Creeper hybrid of all things, Doc just found it silly. Especially when his random instincts would inconvenience him and his friends when he would hang out with them.
Like today. Ren had asked Doc if he wanted to hang out with him and Bdubs, to which Doc gladly excepted. They weren't doing much, just walking around and chatting while looking at the amazing builds they passed. They didn't talk about anything in specific really, just anything that came to mind. That is until something started rustling in a near by bush. The three turned to face it, "What was that?" Bdubs questioned. "Dunno, but I'ma find out what's hiding in that bush." Ren giggled walking over to it. He kneeled down and reached a hand into the bush. "I don't think that's a very good idea Ren." Doc commented despite the fact that Ren already had his entire arm in the bush. "Oh relax it's not like I'm gonna- Ow!" Ren retracted his hand from the bush and scooted back.
"Something bit me!" he shouted pointing back at it. "I told you! It was probably a fox or something." Doc yelled at Ren, walking over and hit him on the head. "Whatever this thing is I'm not letting it just get away with biting my friend like that!" Bdubs yelled before jumping into the bush. "Bdubs!" Doc shouted bewildered, "Oh relax Doc, I am one with nature. Bushes are my babies." Bdubs replied, popping his head out of the bush for a split second before diving back in. Doc sighed and shock his head as he watched Bdubs ruffle through the bush. Ren looked up at him and let out a small laugh before they both heard a gasp from a certain short friend of theirs.
"Guys! You will not believe what I found!" Bdubs yelled. He jumped up from the bush and held something up in the air. The thing in his hands made Doc's eyes go wide and him take a step back. "Awww! A cat!" Ren squealed shuffling over to Bdubs and petting the cat as he held it. "It's so cute isn't it!" Bdubs commented. "Cuter than Jellie!" "Woah don't let Scar hear that." "Doc! Come over here and look at the kitty!" The creeper hybrid stayed silent, taking another step back as he kept a close eye on the cat in the shorter's arms. "Doc?" his head shot up as he looked at a concerned Ren.
"Are you okay? You look a little freak out and you're usually so calm. What's wrong?" the other questioned as he reached a hand out to him. Doc quickly pulled his hand away, making Ren flinch and pull his hand back as well. "U-uh, yeah. I'm fine." the German mumbled. "I don't think you are. Your face is going pale my friend. And saying that knowing that you skin is green doesn't make things any better." Bdubs commented. Doc looked back and forth between the two until he hear a sound. That sound being the cat meowing. He jumped again and backed up as quick as he could.
Ren and Bdubs confused as to what was scaring him so much suddenly looked down at the cat, then back up at Doc. "Dude, are you afraid of cats?" Ren questioned. "N-no" "Oh my goodness you are!" Bdubs leaped up and out of the bush. "I'm not!" Doc shouted. "Oh really?" the shorter walked closer to Doc, cat still in his arms, and slowly lifted it up to him. This causing Doc to freak out. "Ah! Okay! Okay! I am I'm afraid of cats just get it away from me!" Doc yelled frantically.
Bdubs laughed and stepped back. He shifted the cat in his arms and pet it softly as he giggled. "Dude why didn't you tell us you were afraid of cats!?" Ren asked in shock. "I don't know, I didn't really find it necessary. It's just another one of my weird genetic things that comes with being a creeper hybrid." Doc explained with a huff. He crossed his arms and looked to the side, trying to have as little eye contact with the fuzzy creature as possible. "Weird genetic things?" Bdubs chuckled as he pet the cat continuously. Doc rubbed the back of his neck and stood there awkwardly.
He shifted his position a few times before he settled leaning against a tree with his hands shoved into the pockets of his coat. "Yeah, just one of the things that comes with being a creeper hybrid. I hiss uncontrollably but usually when I'm annoyed, I can end up flashing if I get mad, of course that means I can explode though that hasn't happened in years, my eye sight sucks during the day yet gets better at night, and I'm afraid of cats." Doc explained, waving his hands around doing different gestures. Ren and Bdubs looked at each other for a moment, giving each other a somewhat confused, yet worried look. "You know, those aren't necessarily bad things Doc." Ren told the German as they both looked back at him. He rolled his eyes and looked away from the two. Not because he didn't want to look at them, he was just looking for a good way to casually look away from the cat. Of course they would say they weren't bad things, all of the Hermits were sickeningly sweet.
Not that it was a bad thing, the sweeter the better. But in Doc's head they were bad things. They were bad qualities about himself that he wasn't able to control. He wished he could but he couldn't. And that was a problem in his eyes. He could only control so much, which bothered him. He had to control his temper so he wouldn't explode of flash, he had glasses for the day time but he didn't need them, they only helped a little, and he tried staying as far away from cats as possible.
"Doc, I'm being honest. Those things aren't bad, there qualities that make you unique." Ren said tilting his head to the side. "The only thing about those qualities that make me unique is the fact that there qualities only a creeper hybrid would have." Doc spat back. He wasn't trying to be rude but to Ren and Bdubs it did seem that way. Though the both knew that he didn't mean it to be. "Come on Doc don't be like that! There are plenty of hybrids here! Ren's a dog, Grian and False are avians, Cleo's a zombie, Tango is some sort of Nether spawn I think, and Joe is some kind of weird moss man. But your the only creeper!" Bdubs said cheerfully. "I'm a wolf Bdubs." Ren corrected jokingly, whipping his tail at the other playfully. "That doesn't exactly make me unique though. Out of all the hybrids on the server I'm pretty sure Grian and False are the only hybrids that are the same. So according to you all of them are unique too. And I'm not saying that as a bad thing or that they aren't. I'm simply saying that your reasoning is flawed." Doc replied smugly. Bdubs let out an angry huff and puffed his cheeks.
"We're just trying to say that your qualities aren't bad ones! They make you, well, you! But those are just the genetic qualities that make you yourself!" Ren said to him, patting Bdubs on the back. His words caught the Creeper's attention. He turned his head back to them, still avoiding eye contact with the feline, and let them know that he was listening thoroughly to what Ren had to say. The wolf smiled at the other as Bdubs went back to petting the cat he had scooped up in his arms. He cleared his throat as he was preparing to speak. "You have super creative ideas that just blow us away, your build the most amazing things, you have more smarts than all the hermits combined, and your the number one Redstone genius here! Well it's either you or Tango but you know I mean well!" Ren told him, saying that last part somewhat nervously. It took a moment for Doc to smile at the wolf hybrid, but he did.
It was a genuine smile too. It wasn't one of those smiles trying to convince them he was okay or to get them to stop talking, he was happy. Genuinely happy. "Thanks Ren. I. . .I appreciate you saying that." Doc told him. Bdubs looked up at him with his signature wide grin and spoke before Ren could get a word in. "Everything he said was true y'know!" the brunet smiled. Doc nodded to him when Ren suddenly cleared his throat in a annoyed tone. This grabbing both of their attention.
"You're welcome Doc. And Bdubs is right, I meant every word of it whole heartedly, and every single thing is true." Ren told him. "So your saying Tango might be better with Redstone than I am?" Doc said with a smirk. The taller brunet shot him an angry look. His tail stopped wagging and his ears dropped down. "Dang it Doc why can't we have a sweet moment without you doing that!" he shouted stomping his foot. The other two laughed at his angry expression. He wasn't actually upset with them so he started laughing as well.
They all laughed for a while until Bdubs remembered the cat he was holding and asked Doc a question. "Wait a minute! Doc if your afraid of cats why are you so calm around Jellie!?" he shouted, startling Doc as well as the cat. "Huh?" "Scar almost always has Jellie with him and every time you're around him and he has Jellie you don't freak out or anything!" "Uh, yeah? Because I suppress myself. I don't want Scar to think I hate his cat." Doc said, pushing himself off the tree and crossing his arms. "Do you?" Ren commented. "Do I what?" "Do you hate Jellie?" the German stayed silent, looking to the side and kicking his foot. The brunets gasped in a joking shock, "Oh my goodness you hate Jellie!" Ren yelled, making Doc look back at them nervously.
"Oh! I'm telling Scar!" Bdubs teased. "What!? No don't I don't want him to hate cause I hate his cat!" "Ah! You admitted it! You hate his cat!" "No I don't hate her I just dislike her!" "That's the same thing Doc!" once again the three started laughing. The awkwardness of the situation was soon gone, now the air felt silly. As the laughing slowed Doc walked back to the two, forgetting all about the cat. "You sure you wanna get that close to this little beast?" Ren teased as he pet the cat. The Creeper hybrid glared at the feline and slowly got closer to Ren, who was further from the cat than Bdubs was, him being the one holding it. "As long as I'm not too close to it I think I'll be okay." Doc reassured. "See! You can get over your fears Doc! Even just a little!" Ren cheered with a smile. "Guess so, thanks Ren." Doc smiled back. "Anytime dude, we're here whenever you need us."
