I - THIS IS THE PART WHERE YOU RUN

   "Did you get it?"

Mira Mikaelson grinned at her younger siblings and cousin as she walked into her dorm room, holding up the tub of mint chocolate chip ice-cream in her left hand, four spoons in her right. The twins didn't hesitate to snatch a spoon from her hand as she joined them on the bed, pulling the lid of the tub to dig in. Family ice-cream nights had become a tradition between the four while they were at school, wanting to have time for just the four of them to catch up during week with them being in different grades and classes, without any other students or teachers around to interrupt them.

So, about an hour after the younger classes curfew, Grace and Elliot would meet up and sneak to Mira's dorm to meet with her and Hope.

Of course, mint chocolate chip was the flavor of choice, a preference for it they'd gotten off Audrey. "I'm going with Doctor Saltzman to collect the new student later." Hope looked at Mira, raising a brow. "Are you coming?"

"Where this time?" She asked, taking a spoonful of the ice-cream for herself.

"Atlanta." She told her. "It's a werewolf, by the looks of it. It shouldn't take too long."

Grace looked between her sister and cousin with narrowed eyes. "Didn't mom and dad say you two shouldn't be going on the recruitment missions?"

"Well, what aunt Rey and uncle Elijah don't know won't hurt them." Hope brushed off. "It's not like it's anything we can't handle."

Elliot scrunched his nose slightly, licking the back of his spoon. "I don't think that's why they said no." He said knowingly. "Mom kept going on about how Doctor Saltzman shouldn't be treating you guys like you work for the school."

Mira merely sent the pair a flat look. "Just eat your ice-cream." She ordered, before shaking her head at Hope. "I can't. Lizzie and Josie have asked me to do the welcome tour with them tomorrow, so they want to spend tonight going over it." She gave her a look as Hope didn't even attempt to hide her eye roll. "Don't start."

Hope just flashed an innocent smile. "I'm not saying anything."

"You don't have to." She shot back, rolling her own eyes.

"Lizzie likes to poke." Grace recited knowingly, a cheeky smile appearing on her lips. At only nine years old, she had of getting into everyone's business, private or not. Mira had heard her parents compare Grace to Rebekah on multiple occasions, and both Rebekah and Grace took it as the highest compliment possible. "So Hope pokes back."

"See?" Hope offered her oldest cousin a smug smile. "Grace gets it."

Elliot made a face at that, opening his mouth to interject, earning a swift elbow in the ribs from his twin before he could get a word out. "Hey!" He yelped, elbowing her back with a glare.

"Ow!" She rubbed her side, a dangerous glare of her own appearing on her face. "That hurt, Eli!"

   "You started it!" He defended.

"Did not!" She scoffed, and a smirk appeared as she flicked the ice-cream on spoon at his face, covering the end of his nose.

"Eli, no--" Mira's warning fell on deaf ears as he retaliated instantly, grabbing a spoonful of ice-cream and flicking it back at her. "Guys! Not on my bed!"

Hope shook her head with a sigh. "Every time." She muttered to Mira, the pair quickly pulling the twins apart before it could escalate any further. "Maybe this is a sign giving you guys sugar before bed is a bad idea."

At that moment, a knock sounded against the door before it opened, making the four freeze in their tracks. They looked toward the doorway, to see Dorian stood in the door frame, his arms crossed against his chest. Grace and Elliot looked at one another for a long moment, before they dropped their spoons to the ground, holding up their hands."

"He did it!" Grace shouted quickly as Elliot let out. "She did it!" Causing them both to turn back to one another in disbelief. "HEY!"

"Hope, Doctor Saltzman wants you downstairs." Dorian started, Hope giving a nod before she quickly made her way out of the room. "Mira, go put the ice-cream back in the freezer." He ordered, before looking at the two youngest Mikaelsons. "And as for you two, I don't care who started. What I do care about, however, is seeing you both on your way back to your dorms where you're supposed to be. Got it?"

A joint sigh escaped the pair as they nodded. "Yes, Mr. Williams." They mumbled. "Night Mira." They added sheepishly before they followed him out into the hall.

As the door closed behind them, Mira turned back to her bed to see the mess her siblings had left behind, rubbing her face with her hands tiredly. "I really need to stop volunteering to host family night."

The next morning, Mira made her way downstairs to meet Lizzie and Josie outside the main entrance, brushing the creases from her skirt as she went. As she got out the front door, she saw Doctor Saltzman's car was already pulled up, Lizzie and Josie sending bright smiles to two boys who looked like deer caught in headlights. Her eyes landed on one of them particular, recognizing the familiar head of messy black curls. She looked over at Hope in surprise, gesturing int he direction of Landon Kirby discreetly, mouthing. "He's the wolf?"

Hope shook her head and nodded to the tired boy beside Landon, the confused and almost traumatized look in his eyes clarifying things for Mira. "Welcome to the Salvatore school." Lizzie began chirpily, nodding her head toward her sister. "We're your tour guides."

"I'm Josie." The brunette Saltzman girl introduced.

"I'm Lizzie." Lizzie continued. "We're sisters."

   "Twins." Josie clarified.

"Fraternal." Lizzie then added. "Obvs." She then reached out and grabbed Mira's arm, yanking her over to stand with them. "And this is Mira. She isn't our sister, but she'll be joining us too."

Josie took Mira's free arm, the two girls locking eyes with a smile. "But she is our best friend." She added like it was needed.

Hope looked unimpressed as she watched them, rolling her eyes as Doctor Saltzman cleared his throat. "Rafael, why don't you go ahead with the girls while I talk to Landon." He suggested, though it was clear it was more of an order than anything.

Dropping their hold on Mira, the Saltzman twins linked one of their arms through one of Rafael's, sending Hope fake smiles. "Morning Hope." They recited, Lizzie pulling Mira along with her free arm as they began to walk away.

Hope ignored the looks as she forced a smile back. "Morning, girls."

Lizzie leaned closer to Rafael." More like despair." She muttered with a smirk tugging at her lips.

"Lizzie." Mira sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"I heard that." Hope called after them.

"No, you didn't!" The blonde girl called back innocently.

"Didn't have to!" Hope shot back, annoyance lacing her tone.

"Everyone behave." Alaric cut in before the bickering could continue.

Looking over their shoulders, the sisters looked at their father with matching grins. "Love you, dad."

Mira glanced over her shoulder and sent Hope a small smile, before she carried on with the girls and Rafael, them pointing out everything there was to see before they led him inside. His eyes looked around wide with wonder and disbelief, getting used to what he was seeing. As they walked down the hallway toward one of the classrooms, Mira smiled as she saw Grace and Elliot sat in the lounge with their friends, doing homework around the table in front of the fireplace.

The two looked up and waved when they spotted their sister walking by, but were quickly distracted by their work once again. "That's my brother and sister." Mira informed, noticing the Waithe boy watching from the corner of her eye. "They're twins, like Lizzie and Josie. Grace and Elliot." She explained, pointing to each of them in turn.

"They're witches, like us." Lizzie told him, sending the the Mikaelson twins a wave. "But Mira, Grace, and Elliot are something else too. They--"

"That is a long story, and one for another day, once you're more settled here." Mira cut her off, shaking her head. "It's best we just focus on the actual tour."

"Everybody gets along with everybody here, for the most part." Josie began, helping to change the subject.

"The wolves are pretty cliquey." Lizzie nodded in agreement. "They like to hang with their own."

"In defiance of the schools commitment to inclusiveness." Josie told him.

"Well...I think all the factions have the same issue." Mira admitted with a small shrug. "But for the most part, like Josie said, everyone gets along."

"That is why we volunteered to be your tour guides." Lizzie said as they came to a stop outside one of the classrooms. "To give you a good witch welcome before your hairier brethren corrupt you."

"That--" Josie pointed through the door window, toward were Dorian stood writing a spell out on the chalkboard for his class. "--is our librarian, Mr. Williams. He's subbing for our chemistry of magic teacher who accidentally incinerated himself in hellfire last week."

Rafael blinked at her words, making Mira snickered as Lizzie slowly nodded. "Burned all the hair off his body, but didn't leave a scar."

"Alright." They heard Dorian announce, turn back to look at his class. "Now, this language has been carefully crafted over centuries. So you may think you can play fast and loose with the syllables, but you'd be very wrong about that. Because otherwise, a love charm becomes a what?" He looked around for a volunteer. "Penelope, show us."

The Park witch turned in her seat to do as told, Lizzie's look falling flat at the sight of her. "She who shall not be named." She sneered in distaste.

Josie tried to look unaffected, but couldn't help glower through the window. "Talking about her gives her power."

Rafael looked confused. "Who are you talking about?"

"The Voldemort they're referring to is Penelope Park." Mira nodded at the girl in question. "Josie's ex-girlfriend."

"Uh, Josie's evil ex." Lizzie corrected, as Penelope glanced out at that them, a smirk forming as her gaze locked with Josie's.

Noticing the bemused wink she sent, Mira sent Penelope a look back as she grabbed Josie's hand in support, making Josie relax slightly from her stiff position. She squeezed the Mikaelson girl's hand gratefully, all of them watching as Penelope placed her attention back onto the task at hand. "Phesmatos is lucas ordray."

A glowing, golden ball of light appeared in her hands and started to get bright, until it suddenly exploded into a puff of smoke, making everyone in the cough in disgust at the smell that emitted. "A stink spell." Dorian choked out as some snickered at the Park witch. "Yes."

Lizzie scrunched her nose slightly as the smell escaped through the closed door, turning away. "Come on. We'll show you the turret. It's where the seniors go to smoke."

"What do they smoke?" Rafael looked amused. "Eye of newt?"

"Close." Mira patted his shoulder as she turned to follow Lizzie.

"Weed." Josie whispered before she followed, leaving Rafael watching them a moment before he followed.

Once they'd shown the turret and the rest of the building, the girls led him outside onto the fields, were the bleachers were full with students watching the Wickery game going on. Mira's eyes wandered across everyone on the field, pausing when she spotted a familiar face tossing the ball toward the golden hoop. Theo Nelson paused when he spotted her, a goofy smile appearing on his face as he waved toward her, making Mira's cheeks blush red as she waved back with a giggle. Suddenly, someone shouted his name, making him turn for someone else to crash into him and sending them both toppling to the ground.

"Oh God." Mira covered her mouth with her hand, trying to stop herself from laughing.

Lizzie shook her head, as Theo gave two thumbs up to ensure he was okay, shaking himself off as he pushed to his feet. "The attention span of a fish."

"Leave Theo alone." Josie told her with a small smile. "He's sweet."

"Yeah, for Mira." Lizzie stated bluntly. "No one else even exists for him when she's around."

Mira felt her cheeks heat more before she cleared her throat, placing her focus back onto Rafael, who was watching the game intently. "You're probably confused."

"Alyssa Chang made a broom fly in physics last year, but Rick Rogers fell feet during practice, so real-life Quidditch remains an elusive pipe dream." Lizzie told him as they wandered toward the bleachers. "It's called Wickery. My parents invented it when we were ten. Their version is a little less violent than ours."

"There's MG." Josie nudged Mira gently. "Come on."

Leaving Rafael with Lizzie, the two made their way up to join MG where he was sat, and he instantly looked at Josie in surprise. "Giving up dibs on the new guy so quickly?"

"It's not a competition." She reminded as they sat down. "Plus, I'm still nursing a wounded soul."

"Hm, Penelope Park." MG nodded with a knowing hum.

"She who shall not be named." Mira corrected with a pointed look.

"Exactly." Josie nodded to the Mikaelson girl. "We don't mention her name anymore, remember?"

"Sorry." He chuckled with a small smile. His gaze narrowed over at where Lizzie sat with Rafael, biting his lip slightly. "Do you think he'll go for her?"

Josie glanced where he was looking, looking back at him honestly. "Probably. They usually do."

"Okay." He mumbled as he looked down, and both girls couldn't help but feel slightly sorry for him. They both knew how he felt about Lizzie, even if she seemed to be entirely oblivious to it. "Are you two going to the party at the mill tonight?"

"I'm coming." Josie nodded, looking at Mira hopefully as she hesitated. "Come on, you have to come. It'll be fun."

"Of course she's coming." Theo answered for her as he joined them on the bleachers, taking a large drink from the water bottle in his hands. "Right, Mi?"

"Shouldn't you be out there getting knocked on your ass?" She mused with a playful glare.

"Turns out, after that happens for the tenth time in a game, you get benched." He informed as he pulled her to her feet, taking her seat and pulling her back down to sit in his lap. Josie watched them with a faint smile, it fading slightly as she saw the look on Mira's face. "I'm going, so you're going."

   "But Hope--"

"Hope will be fine without your company for one night." He told her firmly.

"I'm not going to get a choice here, am I?" She asked knowingly, looking from him to Josie and MG, all of them shaking their heads. "Fine." She gave in with a sigh. "Fine, I'll come to the party."

"Excuse me." Josie mumbled, rising to her feet as she saw Rafael storm away, an emotional looking Lizzie soon fleeing inside. "I need to go find my dad."

"Dock with Hope!" Mira called after her knowingly.

   "On it!"

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

Parties definitely weren't Mira's thing. She been to a few of them, but it mostly from the result of Lizzie, Josie, or Theo dragging her out of her dorm room to join them. She'd gotten used to spending most evening with Hope in her dorm with her, or her over in Hope's, the pair binge watching some series until they got tired enough to call it a night. They also had their family night evenings with Grace and Elliot, and then there were the nights one of them were feeling home sick, so they'd meet in one of the dorm rooms and astral project home so they could talk to their parents for a while.

Those were some of Mira's favorite evenings. Even though she wasn't truly home in France, she got to spend an hour or so talking through school with her mom, or she'd talk about whatever piece of music she was currently learning to play with her dad. It was enough to keep a smile on Mira's for the rest of the week after one those evenings.

Drink in hand, she weaved her way through the crowds as she looked around for her friends, and soon noticed Theo and his Wickery team in the middle of a drinking contest. "They've been at it for a while." Josie told her as she joined her, a drink in her own hands. "They're celebrating their win from earlier."

"Makes sense." She nodded and raised a brow. "How's Lizzie doing?"

"Dad is with her now, doing some meditation." Josie answered. "She didn't filter herself that well with Raf earlier."

"Aah." She nodded with a sympathetic look. "So she's mad at herself?"

"Big time." She confirmed, as they took a seat one of the benches in front of the bonfire. "But she'll be okay, she always is. She'll bounce back and have Rafael hanging off her every word by next week."

"Jo." Mira said softly, seeing the look on her face. "If you're interested, you're allowed to go for it. You know that, right?"

"No, it's not that. It's..." She let out a small sigh, taking a sip from the bottle in her hands. "I don't know. Ever since you know who broke up with me... I haven't felt like trying with anybody else."

"Penelope was an idiot for breaking up with you." Mira told her strongly. "And just because she decided to let go of someone as great as you, doesn't mean you're destined for heartbreak with the next person you open your heart to."

"But what if that was it?" She asked her. "What if there isn't anyone else out there that wants to take a chance on me?"

"There's someone out there for everyone." Mira said with no hesitation. "At least, that's what I believe. Sometimes, it just takes time to find them." She gave a small smile. "I mean, look at who my parents are and their story. How can I not believe that given everything they've gone through?"

Josie held a smile at that. "Your parents are literal soulmates. That's different, Mira. Not everyone is that lucky."

"True." She nodded with a chuckle. "But they had a connection before they even knew they were soulmates. And sometimes in life, people find that person they believe is meant to be there soulmate, even if they aren't in the literal sense. What about your mom and Stefan Salvatore? My aunt Rebekah and Marcel? My aunt Davina and uncle Kol? My aunt Freya and aunt Keelin?" She said. "Or aunt Elena and uncle Damon? Your dad and your biological mom? All of these people aren't soulmates in the literal sense, but they found one another and love one another as if they are. I think that's proof enough there is someone out there for everyone, even if it takes time to find them."

The smile Josie wore grew slightly in a thoughtful manner, shifting closer to Mira on the bench as she rested her head on her shoulder. "I like your belief." She said quietly. "I really hope that it's right."

"I believe it is." She mumbled, resting her head gently on top of Josie's. "And one day, we're both going to find that person. You'll see."

Falling into a comfortable silence, the two just remained their watching the fire crackle and burn, neither of them finding it in them to want to move and join in on the rest of the party. However, their moment was interrupted as both Theo and Rafael made their way over to them, Rafael stealing Mira's seat as Theo dragged the Mikaelson girl out to dance with him. He stumbled in his slightly drunk state, but managed to spin her out and under his arm, pulling her back into his chest making her laugh as she slowly grew comfortable in his arms.

Both of them unaware of Josie's gaze not leaving Mira the entire time they danced together.

As it turned out, Landon Kirby was more trouble than anyone originally thought. When MG failed to compel his memories of the school away the first time, it was put down to vervain that should have passed out of his system in the night he spent down in the cellar. But when one of a knife from the schools collection was discovered stolen after MG appeared to have been able to compel him the second time, it wasn't long until two and two were placed together. When Landon didn't go home to his foster parents like he was compelled to do, it was clear he'd lied about his memories being gone and had taken the knife with him.

There was a lot more to him than anyone was aware of, but exactly what he was in terms of the supernatural was beyond all of them. But now the entire school was on alert to try and find him, after Alaric called a an assembly to inform of the situation at hand.

To say Hope was the taking it the hardest would be an understatement.

"Got it." Elliot held up a cardboard box as he joined his sisters and cousin in Hope's room, quickly closing the door behind him.

"Great." Hope took the box from his hands, peaking inside to see the mouse they needed running around inside it.

"If mom and dad knew uncle Kol gave you these..." Grace flicked through the pages of the book in disbelief.

"They're not for everyday use." Mira clarified, grabbing one of the many secret grimoires from her lap. "They're for emergency usage."

"Or as uncle Kol would put it, as survival guide for our family." Hope muttered knowingly.

"Mom and dad would freak." Elliot said, knowing exactly what Grace was thinking.

"Which is why you two aren't going to tell them." Mira pointed between them with a firm look. "All we're going to do is find Landon and that's it. We're..." She tried to find the right way to put. "Breaking the rules in a minor sense for the good of everyone."

Grace made a face. "I'm sure they'll lessen your grounding if you say that to them when they find out. Because they always find out."

"They aren't going to find out." Hope said confidently. "The worst that will happen if Emma will lecture us, that's all. No one needs to know about the grimores. All that's important is finding Landon and getting that knife back." She laid the appropriate pages out on the floor and sat one side of them, as Mira grabbed a jar of the herbs they needed and sat down opposite her. "All you two need to do is watch in case someone tries to come in, alright?"

The twins exchanged a wary glance before reluctantly nodding. "Alright."

"Sorry." Hope mumbled to the mouse as she grabbed hold it, twisting its neck until they heard the bones crunch. Mira winced before passed her a knife, allowing her to cut it's stomach until began to bleed on top of the pages and herbs, Mira lighting the candles around them with a flick of her wrist. "Ready?" Hope then asked, holding her hands out to her cousin.

Mira nodded as she took her hands. "As ready as you are."

With a nod, the two closed their eyes and began to chant the spell, Elliot and Grace watching them and keeping an eye on the door just in case. "Inveniet hostium et tenebrae. Inveniet hostium et tenebrae. Inveniet hostium et tenebrae." They recited in sync with one another another, visions beginning to form the more they continued.

Mira furrowed her brow as she caught a glimpse of Landon's face, tucked into a bus seat that all they saw was the side of. "Come on, give me something." Hope muttered in irritation, as the flashes continued to pass before their eyes.

"There." Mira let out, as road sign appeared in her view. "Route 29. Near the state line." She then paused as the flashes moved to Landon once again, the Kirby boy slowly pulling out something tucked away in his jacket. "Is that the knife?"

Hope slowly nodded, both of them looking confused as they saw it begin to glow with a red hue. "Yeah."

"What is it doing?" Mira let out as the glow got brighter.

"I have no idea..." Hope trailed off as the light completely blinded their visions, cutting the spell off.

As they opened their eyes, both of them looked at one another with grim expressions, Grace and Elliot looking worried as they saw their glances. Whatever that was, it couldn't be anything good.

Welcome to Heritage!

Following the live of Mira, Grace, Elliot, and Hope Mikaelson at the Salvatore school, but this book will mainly focus on Mira and the story I have planned for her. This will eventually be a Josie Saltzman fanfic, I have some plans there. Originally, this was going to be entirely OCxOC, but I couldn't resist.

Besides, I feel this is a pairing Audrey and Caroline would both approve of.

We've jumped in with a rather long chapter, and I loved giving you all a look into the person Mira has become now she's sixteen, and the little personalities Grace and Elliot have. And the bond all three of them and Hope have is something I'm just in love with.

Next chapter we jump into Legacies properly with the first monster of the season, and we might have a little special appearance from some people...

I hope you all enjoyed!
