Chapter Twenty Six

Already on our way to Philadelphia. We decided yesterday as a group that we'd have to be watchful of 'Mad Mike' as Cliff called him. We left as quick as we could to keep him at a distance. If he really was with the police, he couldn't travel anywhere or keep up with us.

Angus called me over a bit later to check on me. I told him I was fine but he didn't believe me. I don't think even I believed me. "You know that stuff ain't true don't you? The things he said about you?"

"Of course I do. It's just-words still kinda hurt ya' know?" We didn't talk very long as Angus had to leave again for another interview. I stayed at the hotel this time. Angus didn't want me staying alone but really I was fine. I hoped I was.

"Is my surprise coming yet?" I asked Angus that evening. We were sitting across each other on the couch while the gas fireplace was going. He smiled and shook his head.

"It's not coming for a while. Several more weeks to go."

"For crying out loud, that's forever away!"

"Several weeks and forever are two different things."

"No they're not."

"Yes..."

"No..."

"Yes!" he laughed. "They're very different. Your surprise isn't for a while sweetheart, but it's not forever."

"How many weeks are we talking?" He shrugged.

"Maybe four to six." I made a sound of agitation. "Why do you want to know so bad?"

"I hate surprises. I love them if I don't know about them, but I hate not knowing."

"Not knowing what they are?"

"Yeah."

"Don't blame you. Just forget I ever told you anything and think about other things."

"Good grief, I might leave before then." Angus stopped smiling and I regretted that. I didn't mean to mention that, but-that could be true.

"You'd better not," he said quietly, eyeing me. "Okay?"

"I'll try not to I guess but-"

"You have to promise now. No leaving yet, okay?" I sighed.

"Okay."

"Promise?"

"Promise." He smiled again.

"Okay." I could tell he was joking a bit, but also being serious. He didn't want me to leave but we both knew it was coming. "You'd best get some sleep."

"Yeah, you too," I said getting off the couch. "Been getting any better?"

"Was. Till Miguel came back around."

"Mike, Angus?"

"Whatever," he smiled. "'M not worried he'll find us but-you've seemed uppity since, you know."

"Uppity?"

"A smidge uppity," he laughed. I laughed too. "Come here a second." I went over to him and he pulled me to his lap, trapping me.

"Hey!"

"Gotcha little bugger," he grinned.

"How am I getting to sleep now?"

"Guess you can't."

"What was that for?"

"Just wanted to see you a second."

"You saw me for plenty of seconds."

"Plenty isn't enough." I struggled out of his grip but he held me down. "Where are you goin' in such a hurry? You don't want to sit with me?"

"It's not that Angus, it's-"

"It's what Hannah?" he teased. I sighed.

"It's ridiculous that's what," I said still struggling.

"I don't think so Han Banan." He locked his arms around me and held my hands together like handcuffs. "Should put the tea away."

"Should have thought of that before you trapped me."

"Maybe. Just asking, if you don't leave before the surprise, or even after the tour is over, where-where are you staying, do you know?"

"I don't know. I don't think I'll still be here, but just in case I don't know."

"'Cause I know a certain blonde who'd love to see you again." Angus smiled at me. I did miss Ellen, her and Linda were my friends. I knew what he was getting at.

"Thank you," I smiled back.

"No problem love. Now we really should get some sleep." He let me go and I headed off to my bed. I really should go buy a new toothbrush, mine was overdue. But no time for that now, I had to go to sleep.

Once again Angus was lying awake on the couch. Sure he was tired. Especially being on tour, and sleeping on a couch the whole way. But he couldn't shake that girl out of his head. She was still a little kid. Grown up yes, but still that same sixteen year old he met her as. Good old Hannah. Hannah- hmmm...
