Chapter Twenty Four
October 31st 1996, Halloween
From New Jersey to Buffalo New York. It was Halloween and people were all dressed up in costumes on the street and even during the show. But most everyone was in little devil costumes as a tribute to the band.
"Look at 'em out there," Cliff said watching from behind the curtain. "Sea of devils out there."
"Maybe we all died and gone to hell," Phil suggested.
"If this is hell I can't wait to see heaven," Brian said.
People of all ages came backstage to see the boys. Most of which were female. One lady was trying to get with Cliff and I could see he was a bit uncomfortable. "Poor Cliff," Brian mumbled to himself laughing.
Afterwards, Angus and I went back to the room. He decided he was gonna teach me guitar, or at least a portion of what he knew. We sat on the floor with one of his guitars passing it back and forth. "Here, try that chord." He handed the guitar back to me and I copied it-almost exactly the same. "Here-" he said. He got a bit closer and moved my fingers.
"I think your guitar is broken," I mumbled.
"Yeah, that's it," he smiled. "Now play what I showed you from the start, and that last note." I did it! I actually played it right! My fingers were gonna be calloused, but who cares? I did it! "That's good, just keep doin' that, you'll play like us."
"Well thanks for teaching me. I've always wanted to play but never actually got a guitar."
"It's a long way to the top."
"If you wanna rock and roll." He smiled at me for a while. His smile made me nervous so I started giggling to cover it up.
"What's so funny?" he asked still smiling. I covered my face and he pulled my hands away. "What is it?" he laughed. I shook my head.
"Nothing."
"I hardly think so."
"Think what you want, it's nothing." He brought his face real close to mine and batted his eyelashes making me laugh harder.
"Come on, what's so funny? You used to tell me everything."
"Well it's you now," I said catching my breath.
"What did I do?"
"Staring at me. I laugh when I'm nervous."
"Oh, so I make you nervous now, do I?"
"Well I get nervous if anyone stares at me."
"Thanks I don't feel special anymore," he joked.
"You made me laugh when you made that face though. That was all you."
"What face? This one?" He started batting his eyelashes again. I backed up a bit from him laughing but he kept coming closer to me. When he stopped he just smiled, staring again. A couple seconds in he lost the smile but never looked away. He was still really close to my face and I blushed a little. How embarrassing. He moved in a little closer but was distracted by a mad knock on the door.
"That's some pretty determined housekeeping," I said.
"Better go see who it is," he mumbled standing up. I sat up Angus' guitar so it wouldn't just be on the floor.
"Where the hell is she?!"
