Chapter Twelve
Mike was at the front desk talking to the lady behind it. What was he doing here? He said he usually stays in motels. I didn't want him to see me and make me uncomfortable. Now, what I should have done, was hike up my skirt, walk outside normally, and if he came up to me I should have been an adult and told him to shove off. Instead, I snuck by him. I was almost outside when he turned around.
"Hannah! Hey, haven't seen you since yesterday afternoon. How's it going?" he smiled. Ugh, dang it.
"I'm alright."
"Where'd you go yesterday? You left for the bathroom and never came back."
"I left to see the stage and got caught up talking to Malcolm."
"You sure like older men, don't you?"
"I told you, it's not like that. Malcolm's more of a brother anyway."
"And Angus is..." I sighed.
"Look. They're my friends. I wanted to see them, so I talked to them. There's nothing wrong with that."
"You never answered my question."
"I already told you."
"Well I'm not so sure I believe you. Look, the band's next gig is the 21st. How about we hang out again then?" I sighed.
"I don't know... I'm perfectly fine staying with the band."
"Come on Hannah, it's not like those guys can give you what you want," Mike smiled at me.
"Not so sure that's what I want," I frowned at him. He felt my arm up and I stiffened.
"I know what you want. You don't want them hangin' off your shoulder. Swing by during the concert, lounge room, we'll pick up where we left off."
Fine. "Fine."
"Great." He let go and left the lobby. "And don't run off this time!" he smiled. Oh crap. I got away from him a first time, but I couldn't use that excuse all the time. The band might think I was trying to avoid them or something.
"Come off it Angus, they're not gonna tell you," Phil said amused. The band was in the car on their way to the interview. Cliff and Malcolm hadn't told Angus what was wrong and he wouldn't drop it.
"He's right lad. Probably has nothin' to do with ya' anyway," Brian agreed.
"If it didn't they should tell me."
"You're actin' like a kid Ang, even for you."
Angus crossed his arms and stuck out his tongue before laughing. "Hey how come you didn't bring Hannah?"
"I don't think she'd enjoy it as much as us," Angus joked.
"Lucky bird. Gets all the thrill without the boring interviews."
"She's been stayin' in your room huh?" Phil asked.
"Ask Malcolm, it's his doing." Malcolm held his hands up.
"Hey, what was I supposed to do, let Hannah sleep all by herself in a new place every week? And she's closest with Angus so why not?"
"Hannah hates his guts that's why not," Phil laughed. Brian and Angus laughed too but Cliff and Malcolm kept silent. "C'mon Mal, just a joke. Even Angus laughed."
"Yeah. Just a joke Mal," Cliff agreed nervously. Malcolm gave him a look.
"Let's get the subject off Hannah for once, she'd appreciate us not to talk about her so much."
I walked back to the room. Mike had scared me a bit by the way he talked to me. I thought taking a walk around the block would help clear my head but no such luck. Finding the room I realized I forgot the key inside. Well crap. I sat by the door to wait for them. This was ridiculous. I laughed a little at the state I was in, but then I remembered all that Mike had said to me.
I didn't want anything to do with this man or anything that he was offering. He made me feel unsafe, and wasn't very thoughtful towards the band. Especially Angus. I did see Mike glare at him when he got me away from him. Angus didn't mean to ruin his 'moment'...
Or did he?
"We'll meet back at the lobby at seven alright?"
"Alright, see you Mal." Angus rounded the corner and saw Hannah sitting by the door. "Hey you okay?" Hannah looked up. "Why are you sitting by the door?"
"Forgot the key inside the room," she smiled.
"You did? Where'd you go?" Angus sat beside her.
"Just around the block. Didn't realize till I got back."
"You never do," he laughed. "So. Since you didn't come to that boring, plain interview, how about dinner? The band's going out at seven." He nudged her. "I'd like it if you came."
Hannah smiled. "Course I'm coming."
"Good."
"How was that plain interview?"
"Well...it was an interview ya' know?" he smiled.
"Sounds terrible."
"I've had worse. Should probably get out of this suit before we go out huh?"
"I don't know, you could score a few dates with that thing," Hannah smiled.
"You really think so?" He straightened himself up a bit. "But, I already have one," he said wrapping an arm around her.
"I'm your date?" I asked confused.
"Yeah. I invited you to dinner with us, so you're my date. Unless of course you don't want to be, I can see you being uncomfortable-"
"I'm not uncomfortable, I'm rather flattered. This whole charade is casual though right? Nothing fancy?"
"No. Just a couple lads-and lady-having a good time. Hope you don't mind some dirty humor, though I don't think that's a problem." We sat there a while in silence. "Well, guess we'd better head in, it's freezing out here."
