Chapter Three
The next morning (up and early of course) I made black tea with milk to make my self wake up. I wasn't sure what Angus had planned for the day. He knew where I was, but I didn't know where he was. Then I realized he had to walk to wherever that was last night. Malcolm got a ride but he didn't and I sort of felt bad. But he seemed energetic enough that night, so I let it go.
I stayed around my place that day, being a blob. Not much else to do but blob around in London in your pajamas, am I right? Until I heard a loud knocking on my door around noon. I opened it and Angus stood on the other side smiling. He changed out of his school suit and he had a flower in his hand. "Mornin' lovely," he said handing it to me.
"Thank you. It's afternoon though," I smiled.
"Afternoon then." He looked down at my shirt and his smile widened. "That's a rather handsome lad on your shirt."
"Yeah, I thought so too." He laughed and I let him inside.
"So this is the place."
"Yeah, looks different in the future."
"I'll bet. I came here to ask if you wanted to see London with me and the lads. We're going sight seeing before we start the tour around Europe tomorrow. They'd be happy to see ya' again. Unless you have other plans, then of course I'd understand, but I'd like it-we'd like it if you came..." he rambled.
"Does it look like I have other plans?" I asked pointing to myself and grinning.
"Not at first glance but hey. What do I know?" He sat on the couch while I got dressed in my bathroom.
"Alright, let's go."
We walked quite a ways before we reached their hotel. It was big but not as big as it could have been. Comfort and modesty was quite the package. He took me to the floor they stayed on and knocked on one of the doors. It opened. "What is it?" Cliff asked Angus.
"Cliff, you remember Hannah, when she visited us in the eighties."
"Yeah, the infamous time traveler. Good to see ya' again kid," he said giving me a hug. "Told ya' she'd come back," he told Angus over my shoulder.
"I never said she wouldn't."
"No, but you seemed less than hopeful earlier last year."
"Well fifteen years is a long time to wait. I never doubted though," Angus said to reassure me. Cliff invited us both in and we sat on the couch.
"I'll go tell the rest of the guys that you're here. That you're both here," he said leaving the room. Angus, sitting on my right side, reached his arm around me and tapped my left shoulder. I gave him a sideways glance, not fooled a bit. I pointed at something behind him in surprise and he turned quickly only to turn back to me and see me looking away as if nothing happened.
"Sneaky," he teased. He put his arm around me again and kept it there. Someone walked in the room right then and I saw it was Phil. I remembered he had left the band a while earlier due to issues so I made sure not to ask him about that. Same with Malcolm too.
"Look what the old cat dragged in," Phil said. "Get up here kid." I got up from the couch and gave him a hug. "Where've you been?"
"2024."
"Jesus, we didn't think you'd come back."
"Phil!" Angus said.
"Did we? She was gone a long ass time wasn't she?"
"Makin' us look like we gave up." Malcolm and Cliff came in.
"Brian's on his way here," Cliff said. Malcolm came up to me and gave me a big hug.
"How've ya' been darlin'?"
"I'm great, how've you been?"
"Good, good. Keepin' Angus in line takes a lot out of you though, don't know how Ellen puts up with him." Angus shifted in his spot.
"Guess she just loves me too much," he said glancing at me.
"I don't know how I put up with any of you," said Brian walking in.
"Hey Johnno, you remember Hannah," Malcolm said turning around.
"Yeah! Been a long time lass."
"Not for her, she's only from 2024," Phil said.
"Can't imagine what that's like. Speaking of years when were you born?"
"1999. So not yet."
"We should pay your parents a visit at the hospital," Cliff laughed.
"Yeah show up-'who the hell are you?'"
"'Why do five middle aged men want to see my unborn daughter?'" Phil laughed making us laugh.
"That wouldn't go over well," Angus said.
"So Hannah, you stayin' with us again?" Cliff asked.
"No actually, I have an apartment here in London," I answered.
"Ah. You should come on tour with us then."
"Goin' 'round Europe," Phil said trying to persuade me.
"Yeah I should. Should be fun."
"Well let us know what you think, we leave for France in two days," Cliff said.
"Let's go show her around London first so she can make an informed decision," Malcolm said. Angus stood up and took my hand as we followed the band out to the town.
"Alright, here's the twenty four hour restaurant, I think," Malcolm said as we walked by an old worn down building.
"Looks like a warehouse," Brian commented.
"Angus and I came here last tour. There should be a sign on it..."
"This is the back isn't it?" Phil asked.
"No, I don't think so, here I'll check the other side."
"You like London so far?" Angus asked me.
"Yeah it's nice. Much better than I expected, movies don't do it justice."
"Got better since you came here," he smiled and I couldn't help but smile back and feel a little shy. We both still had feelings but something was different. More emotional, a bigger connection. He also didn't seem to hide his feelings like he used to. Things were definitely changing.
"Quit flirtin' with her Ang, you'll scare her away," Cliff laughed. Angus frowned slightly.
"Bugger off then," he said.
"Jus' messin' with ya' mate." Malcolm came back from the other side of the building shaking his head, clearly trying not to laugh.
"What?"
"'T's not a restaurant," he choked out. "'T's not a restaurant."
"What is it?"
"I walk to the front, no sign anywhere, windows are all tinted-" he laughed again. "Walk in the front door-dollar bills everywhere-'t's not a restaurant."
"Oh shit," Brian laughed.
"Where the hell'd you take us Mal?" Phil asked.
"I thought this was it." Malcolm laughed the hardest out of us then led us further down the road. "Ang, do you remember where it was?"
"No clue."
"Figures," he scoffed. "Maybe it was further than I remember."
"Sure hope so," Brian snickered.
"Or that was it and it got changed to a hole in the wall," Cliff suggested.
"No, this was definitely it," Malcolm said. "'Cause I remember gettin' my belt caught in that bike rack over there."
"That's where they got the idea to change it," Cliff said. Malcolm laughed again.
"Whoops."
"Oh well, there's other places," Brian said.
"We could stay at the hotel to eat," Angus said. "We don't need to draw attention to ourselves, and Hannah may not want that over her."
"Yeah sure," Malcolm said. "Can't cook, we can eat the dirt off our shoes."
"Ah, we'll get something," Phil said. We turned back to the hotel. Angus had been holding my hand the entire time.
"He lost it on the boat before we left," Cliff laughed. "Didn't notice till two whole days later."
"I thought you loved that flask, how do you forget?" Malcolm asked.
"I didn't forget, I just didn't need it then. Thought I had it," Phil said. The boys took a boat ride years ago and Phil had brought along his flask with the bendy straw he got himself for Christmas. "I'll just stick a straw in a beer can then."
We just finished eating lunch-or dinner-or linner I guess, and were just telling stories. Cliff and Phil told the most, and I enjoyed hearing them laugh. Just having fun. The sun went down leaving the room pretty cold and I excused myself to return to my apartment. Which I still wondered how I paid for. Angus walked me home again since I still wasn't too familiar with the area yet.
"I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?" he asked at my door.
"Absolutely," I smiled. I gave him a hug and he left again, constantly turning his head and giving me a funny face. I laughed and occasionally gave one back before closing the door. Man, was the room cold. I dressed myself in something a bit warmer before nodding off.
