Chapter Thirty One
The band waited in the hallway for the nurse and Angus. Angus showed up first and walked up to Malcolm. "What happened? Where's Hannah?"
"This young lady over here went on a date with Mike. Hannah went to help her and, what exactly went down Miss?"
"He pushed me against the wall and she threw him off and attacked him with the phone," Justice answered.
"Hannah's okay, just shaken up. It's Mike who's got the payment." Malcolm looked down. "What's that?"
"Oh, it's our dinner. You had the key and weren't there so I just-brought it I guess."
"Hm. Hannah's over there if you want to see her."
"Thanks, hold this." He handed his brother the food and walked over. Hannah was leaning against the wall, arms crossed and head down. "You scared the hell outta me," he told her pulling her toward him. "You know that? Scared the damn hell outta me." He hugged her and she clung to him. "Hear you clocked him pretty hard. Or should I say phoned?" Hannah giggled and nodded. "That's my girl." His hands rested on her shoulders to calm her shaking. He looked into her glistening eyes. He barely noticed he was leaning in closer until she was right there. He closed his eyes-
"Are you all here for Mike Wanson?" a voice said. Angus turned around to see a nurse standing around them. His pencil was nibbled on and his clipboard was messy.
"Well sort of, not really for him per say," Malcolm said. "But yeah, yeah."
"Okay, so he's not in critical condition, he should go home soon, just major cuts and bruises."
"Good we won't get sued," Phil mumbled.
"Hmm?"
"I said good, that's great news!" he smiled. Malcolm laughed and the nurse just left.
I smiled at Phil's cover up. Justice was sitting there with her head in her hands. Probably freaked out, I know I was. How did Mike even get here anyway? Angus left my side to talk to Malcolm and I left to go to Justice. "My first date's a dud," she said. "Are we gonna get in trouble for this?" I shrugged.
"Probably not. No one else knows what happened."
"But Mike does. Say we call authorities on him, goes to court, he wins. Then we're in trouble."
"Guess we'll see what happens."
"I'm really sorry you went through all that."
"I'm okay, something had to be done, you know?"
"But it's just so-I don't know like-" She sighed. "It's just so crazy, like I had no idea he'd come on to me like that."
"I didn't either."
"He just seemed so genuine at first, like I had no idea."
"Yeah, he was that way with me too."
"He was?" she asked. I began telling her my stories of encounters with him.
"Then he came back when we were in New York. Started hassling us, got him put in jail. Must have gotten out since then." Justice was astounded.
"He never told me anything about being in jail."
"Probably didn't want you to know, didn't want you to leave."
"Probably. He's fucking crazy. Sorry, it's just-" She laughed a little. "My first man tried to rape me. He didn't get you did he?"
"No, my friends helped me."
"Maybe I'll have to continue the tradition some day. Fucking crazy. Can't believe I blew off an AC/DC concert for him. I mean, I'm here at the hospital with them, not many people can say that. It's just not what I was expecting."
"It never is," I laughed. "Not with these goobers." Justice watched Malcolm and Angus talk.
"Look at Malcolm," she sighed. "Do you think he'd be willing to be with me?" she joked.
"Sorry sister, he's married."
"That didn't stop Angus with you," she smirked. My eyes got big and I swatted her shoulder.
"Shush! Say it so the whole world can hear!" I whispered. "That's not even true."
"Oh please, I saw that kiss. Well, near kiss I guess. But it was so obvious!" I rolled my eyes. I wouldn't disagree with her. "Malcolm would like me, wouldn't he?" Justice started laughing. I chuckled along. "How'd Angus get to like you so much?"
"Well the thing is, we've known each other for a long time. Since before he was married even."
"You're...how old are you?"
"Twenty five."
"He's..."
"Forty one."
"He's liked you since he was in his twenties? And you were a CHILD?" she cracked up. I laughed at her outburst.
"No! It's-it's complicated."
"It sure is."
Angus walked up to Malcolm who was eating the pizza. "Hey, that's for everyone."
"Got hungry. Deal with it."
"So, do you know how Matt got out of jail?"
"They let him go when we got to Philly. He went back to his town here in Montana and found another girl to be with. Just a huge coincidence she and Hannah knew each other."
"Wow. Sure gets around doesn't he?"
"Yep. Are you uh, nervous about the next stop?" Malcolm grinned.
"You're so smug Mal," Angus grinned back. "To answer your question I am a little nervous. Yeah."
"A little nervous? Your heart should be falling out of your chest. And she has no idea?"
"Not a clue. I mean, she knows something's coming but not what it is."
"What is it?"
"Just taking her out."
"Where?"
"Just out. Look, I'll tell you later. Not when the world's out to hear us."
"I hear ya'. Why're you doin' all this for her anyway?" Angus shrugged.
"Last time comin' to see us. Been havin' some rough times. Because I can."
"Makes sense." Both men looked over at Hannah and Justice as they laughed a little. "Glad to see those two getting along."
"Good to see Hannah laugh again. Haven't heard that in a while."
"Gonna take her back soon?"
"Yeah. After dinner anyway," Angus said grabbing a piece of pizza.
"Bet she's exhausted. I sure as hell am."
"We just leaving Marshall here?"
"Unless you got a better idea."
"I'm all for ditching him. Don't want him around us anymore."
"Just think Angus. All this time, it could have been you in that bed. One wrong move and..."
"Very funny Mal." The two girls across the hall burst out laughing. Malcolm gave Angus a smug smile.
"Hear it and weep fella."
Mike stayed in the hospital that night. Apparently the jail hadn't let him go, he had escaped. They sent him to prison after he checked out and we never saw him again. We also had to escape. We didn't want the press to ruin the band with more 'exclusive stories'. As if Salt Lake wasn't bad enough.
We called Justice a plane home. She left the next day on December 6th. I was going to miss her. She was a real friend to me, along with Vee, Ellen, and Linda. We said goodbye at the airport. I cried a little, I'd never see her again. I saw a few tears in her eyes as she left, and I knew she thought that too.
Meanwhile, we took the car to another airport which would take us to Oregon. Hell yeah. We got there that evening and went to dinner before going to the hotel. The next show was in two days, then the first part of the tour would be over, and we'd leave four days after that.
