Chapter Sixty Two

That evening I slept in Monica's son's bed again. It had rained all day so she let me stay the night again. I wasn't ready to go back yet anyway. The next morning was Valentine's Day. the saddest day of the year. Not for people in relationships however.

The rain took a pause and Monica and I went to a park. The park bench was wet but Monica brought a blanket to sit on. A flock of birds flew over to us and she fed them crumbs from a brown bag. "Lovely creatures aren't they? Have any plans for today?"

"No. I don't."

"You know what day it is don't you?"

"Not everybody has that 'special someone'."

"That's not what you said last night."

"But I also said he was married, that's kind of part of the problem."

"That would put a damper on things, wouldn't it?"

"No kidding."

"But he still loves you doesn't he?" I looked at her.

"I-I guess so."

"He still loves you. Doesn't he?" she asked again.

"Yes."

"And his wife loves you."

"Not very much right now-" Monica eyed me. I sighed. "Yes."

"And you love them, and your other friends do you not?" I nodded. How does she know about the other friends? "Then it doesn't matter who this day is spent with. What matters is that you love each other."

Thunder rumbled up ahead. Rain sprinkled down but the birds didn't fly away. I looked ahead of me to see a man. A soaking wet man standing in the rain with his hands in his pockets.

Staring at me.

I got up from the bench and walked in his direction. He hurried over to me and pulled me in for a hug. "Ang-"

"Shh. Don't say a word," he whispered. The rain was coming down pretty hard now. Hot tears came strolling down my face. I whimpered into his shoulder as he rubbed my back. I looked behind me at Monica only to see she wasn't there. No blanket, no bag, no birds. She had disappeared.

Angus let me go and I saw two women behind him, just as rained on as he was. Linda was smiling like everything and Ellen looked glad that I was safe. Through the rain she called out to me. "I'm allowing one more!"

I frowned in confusion before Linda put her hands around her mouth. "Go on and kiss her already!" I looked back at Angus who wasted no time putting his arms around my neck and locking his lips with mine. In complete shock I stumbled over a bit and felt Angus smile as he caught me. Linda whooped and clapped her hands. At least it sounded like her. Angus tilted his head to the other side and sighed. The rain continued to pour down but none of us really noticed.
