Chapter Sixty Five
The guard sitting at the desk had taken the vent covering off and saw Angus inside. "Tengo una pequeña plaga," he snarled. Angus backed up into the vent allowing the guard to follow him. As difficult as it was, he managed to crawl backwards and reach the place he came from.
Angus slipped out of the vent and closed the door. He ran to the desk and grabbed the keys closing the other door behind him. "¡Ayudeme!" The voice echoed in the vents. The other guard ran to help him as Angus unlocked the cell door.
I stepped out of the cell and pulled Angus in for a hug. "Come on, we gotta go," he told me. I turned to Donna.
"You coming?"
"Where do I go?"
"Right now, anywhere but here." The guards were close to escaping and she wasn't moving. I ran back in the cell and grabbing her hand, all three of us ran out into the night avoiding traffic.
We ended up in the back part of town just to make sure we weren't being followed. The rain had slowed but the ground was soaked. Out of breath and hearts racing we stopped in an abandoned lot.
Angus and I started laughing at our escape and I hugged him again. He picked me up and spun me around. "What the hell just happened?" I asked after he set me down.
"Jesus Christ, I'm getting too old for things like this," he said rubbing his shoulder.
"What did you do?"
"Crawled through a tiny ass vent in the wall. My shirt is covered in cobwebs."
"Thank you so much, I never would have ma-"
"I hate to interrupt your little reunion," Donna said. "but I'd better go back to my-home."
"Do you need any help?" Angus asked. "If you need somewhere to stay or..." Donna shook her head.
"No, I've got somewhere to be. Two days late as it is."
"You're leaving?" I asked.
"Sorry princess, but I can't stay. Especially out here at night. Not after what happened last time," she mumbled. "Thank you both for helping me out, you're a good pair." Donna winked at me then headed off toward a neighborhood.
"That your prison mate?" Angus asked.
"Yeah. She keeps thinking that we're-" I stopped short. "Hey, why didn't you tell her you're not my-"
He cut me off with a short kiss on the corner of my mouth. His right hand cupped my cheek and he wore that freaking smile of his. "It's been a long night for you. For us both," he chuckled. "We should get to bed." We stared at each other a while before he removed his hand to grasp my own and lead me down the dark street.
We made it back to the hotel where the rest of the band waited. It was late, and they were all exhausted. The hotel was no longer under evacuation, but we were better off not going back inside.
"There you are, been waitin' for-fucking-ever," Malcolm snapped.
"Yes Mal, we are still alive, thanks for asking," Angus snapped back. "What time is it?"
"Going on one."
"We'd better drive to our next spot-"
"No Angus, we're sleeping in the car tonight."
"We have to go to our new hotel, we can't stay here-"
"Angus. It is one in the fucking morning. I'm not driving another mile. That car stays put. Now get in, and go to sleep." Angus looked at me, then back at his brother.
"Fine."
It was quite a tight squeeze in one car with five guys and another girl. Brian reclined the driver's seat and Phil took the passenger's. Cliff lay on the floor with Georganne and Malcolm was inexplicably placed next to them. Angus lay down across the backseat and I had to lie on top of him. I blushed at our lack of distance. "Mal,there's really no room in here," Angus sighed.
"Hannah's just gonna have to stay on ya' Ang, cry me a river. I'm going to sleep." Angus shook his head.
"Even we're too big for this car," he whispered. I laughed. "You have fun today?" I nodded. "What the hell were you doing, to have the whole building lose power?"
"I tried fixing the light in my room," I answered.
"We weren't gonna stay there, why'd you fix it?" I shrugged.
"Didn't think about that." He smiled.
"I leave you alone for one night...I may not be able to next time. Have to keep my eye on you."
"I can handle myself." He scoffed.
"Yeah. One night jail, next night America's Most Wanted."
"Argentina's Most Wanted."
"I love you. Never thought I'd say that to you from the backseat of a car," Angus said. I curled up and nuzzled my face into his warm shoulder. His arms wrapped around my waist and he held me close.
"I love you too."
