Chapter Sixty Eight

After two concerts in two different cities, we headed for Columbia. After a riot broke out last week and they shut the building down, we had to delay that concert. That didn't put anybody in a good mood. The fans might as well start another riot.

On April 12th, we flew to Asia, where I had a huge culture shock. So. Many. People. Our first stop was in Japan. I've always wanted to go there, so I was pretty damn pumped.

The band thought it would be a good idea to pool in some money that we could all share. Georganne and I got some for ourselves, and everyone else split their own. After the concert in Tokyo we'd all go on our own shopping trip. Phil was probably least excited. "Shopping? Should I bring my purse too?"

"Calm down Rudd, you can get yourself another flask," Malcolm said.

"They sell those here?"

"Seems they sell everything here." Store after store filled the streets. The stadium was several blocks away and we headed there first to get ready. This stadium was the biggest I'd seen so far. It was outdoors this time and the stage was speckled with lights.

Not to mention the crowd was the largest I'd ever seen in my life. Quite energetic too. It took longer than we expected to greet all the visitors, but when we got done we headed out for the town. Georganne pulled me away with her for our own adventure. "Got to get all the good stuff!"

After searching for nothing in particular for an hour, Georganne settled on some shoes and a few choice knick knacks. I wandered throughout a teeny bopper shop, questioning the infamous products of pink pop culture. Nothing caught my eye except one thing. Okay, maybe two. A penguin snow globe, and footie pajamas.

It was a skunk, and came with ears and a tail and... I sighed. What did this place take me for? A toddler? Shaking my head, I walked away from it and headed out of the store.

That was two hours ago.

I swung the bag in my hand as I walked with Georganne down the street. The boys had all separated and we had to find them. Buses and bikes buzzed down the road and people swarmed around every crosswalk. "So Hannah? I uh-know you probably don't want to talk about this again," Georganne said. "but it's been buggin' me all night. You say this is your third time going back-you know?" I nodded.

"And last."

"Oh." She rubbed her arm. "Angus is a good guy huh?"

"Yeah." I smiled.

"You've known him-how long?"

"Well when I was sixteen I met him in 1975 but-" I waved my hand. "I'll let the math solve its own problems." She laughed.

"Same here." We crossed the street narrowly missing a mustang. "I'm so glad I wore my sandals today. My heels would have given out."

"Where did they all run off to? You'd think they'd be looking for us."

"Maybe they are. We'll be searching all night for them and get lost in Tokyo. Have our own movie made."

"No, they'll be lost in Tokyo. I'd watch that film."

Georganne glanced skyward and ran a hand through her hair. "Maybe we should just head back, they know the way."

"Ice cream first?" I gave her a puppy look and she laughed.

"Okay, we'll get ice cream first."

These footie pajamas looked great. They were soft inside and out and fit me perfectly. Maybe a little snug in the shoulders but other than that... I hope this tail doesn't get in the way. I took the receipt from the bag and checked it over. The numbers looked right, only- I nearly spit out my nonexistent drink. There at the bottom showed the card I used to pay for it. But it wasn't the shared card, it was Georganne's personal card. She must have given the wrong one to me by accident. I had just spent sixty dollars of Georganne's personal money. And on pajamas too!

Of course I'd have to pay her back. But with what? I couldn't transfer our card money to her account, she'd get suspicious. But she ought to know what I'd done right? Well I'd rather her know after I paid her back so she'd be less pissed. Better to beg forgiveness than ask permission for access to a woman's debit card. Or something like that.

Oh surely she'd find out before then. Georganne's a smart woman. I'm sure not. But it was just an accident! I never meant to steal her paychecks.

I snuck out of my room and glanced down the hall. Her and Cliff were joking around, completely unaware of my transgressive transactions. Finding the money would not be easy, but this would not be left unsolved.

"This new?" I turned around. Angus had a piece of the fabric of my pajamas in his fingertips.

"Oh yeah, just got it today."

"What is it?"

"Footie pajamas." He gave me a look. I sighed and spread my arms out. "Footie pajamas!" Another look. Another sigh. "They're skunk pajamas with feet."

"You don't say."

"Look, it even comes with a tail." I shook it and he laughed.

"You're real cute. You sleepin' in those?"

"I mean, they are pajamas after all."

"Won't you get hot?"

"Maybe, but at least I won't be cold."

"You sure won't," he said eyeing me. "Whatcha doin' out here anyway? Spying?"

"No..."

"Gettin' into trouble?" I swallowed my tongue.

"N-no."

"Mhm."

"I'm not!"

"Whatever you say." He kissed my forehead and patted my shoulder. "Night lovely," he said going to his room. I leaned against the door frame crossing my arms and pouted at him. He glanced at me and laughed. "I love you."
