Chapter Seventy Four
I didn't mean to do it, honest. I was going to go back to my room as soon as that lengthy movie on tv was over. But I was just so tired and... I fell asleep. And I'm sure Angus didn't mind, course he had to sleep on the couch again, me curled on top. You know, for both of us supposed to let the other one move on with their own life, we weren't doing a very good job.
A knock thundered on Angus' door. I would have gotten up to answer it, but Angus was still asleep, and hadn't quite let me out of his grip. You'd think the knocking would wake him up. No. It persisted and I decided to wake Angus up myself.
I shifted so that I was facing him. He was snoring a bit, so I covered his mouth to wake him up. And he did, but he certainly didn't want to. His eyes stayed closed and he removed my hand. "Angus." He grumbled. "Angus, wake up. Someone's knocking on the door."
"Let them come back later," he mumbled pulling me down.
"One of us has to get up to answer it."
"Well it's not gonna be me."
Phil knocked on the door again, louder this time. The band hadn't seen Angus or Hannah at all the other day. Something was fishy. Phil's curiosity had woken up Malcolm, who came to see what was happening.
"Phil, the hell are you doin'?" a disheveled Malcolm asked coming out to the hallway.
"No one's answerin'," Phil called over his shoulder.
"'Cause it's what, six in the morning?"
"It's seven, Malcolm." Malcolm rolled his eyes.
"This Angus' room?"
"And Hannah's."
"What makes you say that?"
"Haven't seen either one yesterday. Have you?" Malcolm rubbed the back of his head.
"No, can't say that I have."
"Exactly." Phil pounded on the door again.
"Shut up Phil," Malcolm winced grabbing his arm. "Gonna wake the whole damn floor."
"Good. Get these two outta bed. Speaking of which, have you-" Phil turned to face him. "Are-you wearing...a bathrobe?" Malcolm glanced down at himself.
"'T's a men's bathrobe." Phil shook his head.
"Anyway." He knocked again and Malcolm pulled his arm away again.
"Hey Ruddy, shut it!"
"I'm gettin' 'em out of bed!"
"I can see that!" Malcolm looked behind him and reached into his pocket. "Here's his key." He handed it to Phil. "Go crazy," he said going back to his bed.
Phil took the key and jammed it in. 'Bout time these two explained themselves...
I huffed as Angus pretended to snore louder. Squirming from his hold did no good. "If you won't get the door, I will," I said.
"No you won't." Angus sat up and shifted us around so he was on top of me. Now I was really stuck. "You'll stay, right here." The knocking grew louder along with some voices outside the door.
"Angus, get up!" I pushed him a little but he didn't let go. "Angus!"
"What in the actual fuck..." Angus and I both looked to the door to see Phil standing there, mouth agape. In a blind panic I shoved the distracted man off of me and sat up. "Angus, what the hell are you doing?"
"Bleeding," he glanced at me. Phil roughly stood him up and lightly smacked him on the head. "What was that for?" Angus winced.
"You tell me."
"Was that you knocking on the door?" I asked.
"So you did hear me." Phil crossed his arms.
"I was going to answer it, but Angus here wouldn't let me," I thumbed at his direction.
"Oh really? Too busy gettin' up on her?"
"I was not-I didn't-" Angus sighed. "I was too comfortable, okay? Figured you'd go away after the tenth knock with no answer."
"Only got me more worried," Phil said.
"Worried? Oh, so now you're worried? Think I might be doin' somethin' to little Hannah?" Angus asked suspiciously. "Usually you'd jump at the chance of us at it. Why the sudden change of heart?"
"It's 'cause I'm jokin'. I do know, as a matter. Of. Fact. That Hannah doesn't-you know."
"Do you?"
"Yes! You however, seem to be forgetful," Phil said poking Angus' nose.
"Even I don't make jokes about it," Angus retorted.
"That's 'cause you're ready for the real thing!"
"You're such a-"
"Shut it!" I yelled standing up from the couch. I sized each of them up and glared at them. "The reason of our absence yesterday, Philip, was because we were playing a game. Chinese Checkers."
"I won." I smacked Angus' arm.
"Chinese Checkers huh?" Phil asked. "Where did you play this 'Chinese Checkers'? Hm?"
"On the floor," Angus answered.
"On the floor! Bet you thought I wouldn't figure it out."
"Figure what out?"
"What Chinese Checkers really means."
"...it means Chinese Checkers Phil, what else do you want?" Angus asked.
"And you 'won' Angus? Ha, I'll bet you did."
"For cheese's sake Phil, it's a real game!" I left for the bedroom and came back out with the box. "See for yourself." Phil took the box from me.
"More like a game of Chinese condoms-oh, checkers," he mumbled reading the box. "Oh, ages eight and up..."
"See Phil? Nothin' to worry about," Angus smirked.
"Well-eight and up could mean anyone!"
"It means," I said taking the game away. "we were playing an innocent game."
"So you expect me to believe you played international games all day?" Phil questioned.
"Built a domino train."
"Which Angus knocked over," I mumbled.
"Okay you win. But I thought you guys stopped sharing a room."
"We did," Angus and I answered. Phil looked back and forth between us.
"Yeah. Sure looked like it."
"Fell asleep watching a movie," Angus confessed.
"I see. Well, since it was so difficult gettin' you two off the couch, I suppose you want another day to recover? After your afternoon of fun?"
"Do we have one?" Angus asked.
"No. We gotta get goin' to Europe. We leave today at one."
"Aw shucks," I snapped my fingers.
"And since you're already awake..." Angus sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Alright, go on ahead we'll, we'll get ready." Phil nodded and left the room. Angus closed the door and faced me. A half smile spread his face. "He's a character ain't he?"
