Chapter Nineteen

"Hey Hannah, happy to get Mike off your back? And other places?" Malcolm joked. We were once again behind a stage waiting for the show to start. It always amazed me how even after all these years they still get nervous but can still play a great show.

"Absolutely. Thank you Mal, by the way. You and Angus never should have had to do what you done," I answered hanging my head.

"Don't worry about it love, we're happy to do it. Just wish I'd been wearin' a ring or somethin'," he said flexing his hand again.

"Your hand feeling any better?"

"A little. But my hand isn't as important as your innocence. Or life," he added. I smiled and reached over to give him a hug. He returned it and patted my back a little. Then he started laughing.

Malcolm noticed Angus staring at the two out of the corner of his eye. He knew his brother wouldn't do anything to Hannah, but he'd definitely grind his gears just for a laugh. Malcolm looked up from the hug at him. And started to laugh. Angus came up to them. "Can't play guitar with a girl in your arms Mal," he said.

"Can't hug a girl with a guitar in your arms Ang, she's all yours," he laughed letting her go.

"Thanks," Angus mumbled.

Malcolm let me go and I turned around to see Angus looking at us. More like eyeing Malcolm. I don't see why, he's never hurt me. He left us two by ourselves and Angus watched him walk away. "Has Mal caught your eye Angus?" I asked.

"Yeah..." he mumbled not paying any attention. I couldn't help but laugh. He turned to me confused. "What?" I started laughing even harder. "Wait, what'd you just say? What's so funny?" I turned and walked away and he only stood there.

Mike never showed up. He never found us, or me specifically before, during, or after the show. It was a relief to all of us and we left as quick as we could. Two more days in Spain, then we'd leave the whole continent and we'd be harder to catch up with. Then again, it's not too hard to follow a famous band. "I don't think he's too hot on our trail, he can barely see anything now," Cliff laughed.

We met back at our newest hotel and hung out in Brian's room. It was already midnight and we stayed up talking. Angus seemed restless, but it was probably his six hour high he gets after shows. I on the other hand, was tired as heck. Angus and I were sitting on the floor our backs to one of the couches. His legs were crossed, stretched out in front of him. One of his feet would always be moving, then the other as soon as it got tired. Sometime I leaned up against him and used his shoulder like a pillow. I hadn't noticed I had fallen asleep.

"Hey, she's exhausted. Why don't you take her to bed mate?" Malcolm asked his brother. Angus brushed the sleeping girl's hair away and readjusted the blanket around her.

"She's fine here ain't she?"

"C'mon mate..."

"You can always go to bed with her Ang, if ya' don't want to leave her," Phil smiled.

"Save it Rudd," he answered. Phil snickered to himself and Brian gave him a playful smack.

"Serious Ang, unless you want her sleepin' on the floor, you should get her to bed," Brian said.

"I don't wanna wake her..."

"She's out like a light, you won't wake her," Malcolm called over.

"Keep shoutin' you will."

"I'm not shoutin'!" Angus gave him a look. "I'm not shoutin'," he whispered.

"Give her up Angus," Brian laughed. "Either you take her back or someone else will."

"Nah, I've got it." He stood up making sure she didn't fall over then picked her up. Her head fell back to lean against his neck and he smiled to himself at the sudden pressure.

"You got her?"

"Yep. Johnno, can ya' get the door please?"

"Sure."

"Lock 'em out then," Cliff suggested.

"I'm still comin' back," Angus said.

"Not if he's locked you out," Phil chuckled.

"We're already locked out of our room," Angus said glancing behind him. No one answered.

"I think he needs a hand Mal," Brian called back to his room.

"What, he's already got six of 'em right there," he answered.

"You're the only one who knows where his room is." Malcolm sighed.

"Angus, where's your key?"

"In my pocket."

"Shit, I'm not reachin' in there."

"Well I'm a bit preoccupied here."

"Which one?"

"Left." Malcolm reached a hand in there to grab the key. "Hey, watch it!"

"Sorry, slipped."  The two men walked down the hall to find the room which was quite a distance. "Jesus, why is your room so far Ang?"

"I don't know, you tell me." They stepped up to it and Malcolm started working the key.

"Smells like pot over here," he mumbled.

"Dammit Mal, you weren't supposed to find out," Angus smiled. Malcolm returned it and opened the door.

"Like a hound dog."

"Cryin' all the time." Angus used his nose to brush some of Hannah's hair back in to place.

"You sniffin' her mate?"

"No, gettin' her hair out of the way."

"Here." Malcolm fixed some of her hair then started fixing Angus' hair.

"Hey now, stop that." He tried moving away but there was only so much he could do.

"Whatcha gonna do about it?" Malcolm teased. Both men laughed.

"You're gonna make me drop her Mal."

"Alright alright."

"Now my hair's a mess..."

"What are you talking about, you've never looked better," Malcolm said walking in and turning on the light. Angus followed him and went to the bedroom. He arranged Hannah on the bed and watched her a moment. "She's pretty ain't she Ang?"

"Sure is."

"Now look at you."

"Look at me," Angus repeated smiling.

"Should get some sleep," Malcolm said patting his brother's shoulder and walking out.

"You think that'll help?" he joked. "Ah, I will soon." Both men walked back to Brian's room for a few minutes while Hannah slept the rest of the night.
