Chapter Forty Three
"Forget someone?" Angus asked coming inside. Ellen had just given me something and was sitting at the table.
"Oh. No babe, we just-left," she shrugged.
"Yeah. Sure did." He walked over and kissed her head. "Talk about anything specific?"
"A little nosey aren't we?"
"I'm not nosey, I'm just asking a question."
"About a private conversation."
"You know everything I talk about." Ouch, that hurt me. We both knew, Angus and I, that wasn't true. I gave him a look to hopefully give him the idea that mayyybeee he should shut up. He glanced in return but never said anything.
"Not with that band of yours I don't," she smirked. She turned to me. "But I bet Hannah does." I saw Angus give me a worried look. Deciding to mess with him a bit, I smiled.
"She's right. I know a lot of stuff that happened. Don't I Angus?" He frowned and wrung his hands.
"I don't know, do you?"
"Sure do. Wouldn't Ellen like to know?"
"Sure would," she agreed.
"...go ahead and tell her 'cause I don't know..." he mumbled.
"Sure you do. You remember when we were in Oregon right?"
"Y-yeah."
"And we went out to a park?"
"Yes..." His breathing was out of rhythm and he tapped his foot. This is what you get, bud.
"And you said something about Ellen?" He blinked.
"What?"
"Talking smack about me honey?" Ellen smiled.
"I-I d-don't know."
"What'd he say Hannah?"
"I shouldn't repeat it, it's too mean," I replied dramatically.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Angus asked.
"What'd he say, I need to know!" Ellen started laughing.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding, just wanted to see his reaction," I waved her off.
"Priceless is what that was," she said still giggling.
"You guys are rude, ganging up on me all the time," Angus said frowning.
"Can't help it hon, we just love to mess with ya'." He glared over at me.
"Yeah..."
Angus and I went out to the car to get our stuff. "What the hell are you doing?" he asked once we got there.
"Don't know what you're talking about." I turned away from him and he grabbed my arm.
"You know damn well what I'm talking about." Now he was sounding rather mad.
"I would never tell her out of the blue Angus, you know that."
"Not really, seeing as you like to scare me half to death on a whim."
"Explain."
"Running your mouth off to Ellen, going to an alley with Lucy and friends, going backstage with Bob when you knew he was bad news, or how about running away to confront him and end up at a hospital? I thought you got hurt! You're unpredictable! I can't keep my eye on you when you're everywhere I'm not!"
"Lucy was your fault! And I can't be wherever you are all the time, I gotta take care of myself sometimes!"
"Taking care of yourself means staying out of trouble."
"Maybe you shouldn't worry about me so much."
"Stop getting into trouble and I won't."
"Stop getting me into trouble!" He walked right up close to me and stared me down.
"You got a real mouth on you," he muttered. "That's your problem."
"What?"
"Yeah, you aggrivate people."
"Who?"
"Me for example."
"You started it." I yanked my arm away from him and walked away but he stopped me. He pulled my face real close to his and I could hear him breathe.
"Mouth off one more time," he whispered. "I dare you."
"Make me," I challenged. What the hell happened? What came over us?
