Chapter Eight

I woke up in bed and saw Angus fast asleep on the couch. He must have carried me here when I fell asleep on his shoulder. He snored rather loudly, but I must have been tired enough to sleep through it. The last thing I remember is him playing guitar and that's about it.

Before I got out of bed I saw a piece of paper on the bed. It was a note Angus wrote.

Morning lovely. Hope my singing didn't kill you, but I put you to bed. You know, in case you were asleep. I hope you're asleep, or I'm in trouble. Anyway I know you're an early riser so you'd be up before me. You can go do whatever you please seeing as I probably won't wake up till noon. Feel free to take the guitar and amp back to the truck! And make lunch when I wake up!

Sure, no problem Angus. I smiled and shook my head, getting out from the covers. I got dressed and wrote Angus a note on the back of the one he gave me.

Just in case you wake up before noon or before I get back- I've gone out for a walk, I'll bring you something from the lobby, or underneath the fridge. I'll decide on the way. Hope you slept well!

It was so freaking cold outside. I needed mittens for my mittens. Which sadly I didn't have. Only Malcolm's jacket and whatever else I had on. I didn't walk too far, only around the block. Which was bigger than I expected. When I came back it was around 10:30, and I grabbed some sandwiches the lobby had to offer and went back to the room. Angus wasn't on the couch anymore, so I assumed he went to another person's room. Setting the food down I walked to the kitchen and got water from the sink.

"You're back early," Angus said giving me a hug from behind. I spit out my water back into my cup.

"What was that?"

"What, did I scare you?" I sighed.

"Don't mind me wetting myself over here." He laughed.

"Sorry."

"No you're not," I smiled. "I thought you'd still be asleep."

"Same here. Woke up at ten from someone's car alarm outside. Might as well stay up then, yeah?" He let me go and sat at the table. "Now that I'm awake and you're home, 'm ready for lunch."

"'Scuse me?"

"Didn't you read my note?"

"Sure did, what makes you think I'm making lunch?" I asked smiling.

"'Cause I asked nicely." I gave him a look and he laughed. "Nah, the sandwiches are fine."

"Unless the bread is moldy."

"Yeah." He took one and inspected it. "Hm. Looks fine."

"What's on today's agenda?" I asked.

"'Nother concert. Which is why I need to take the guitar and amp back to the truck. Or..."

"Or..."

"Or you could be a pal and help me out," he grinned.

"What do I look like, a maid?"

"Kidding, kidding. I could use some help though." After we ate the sandwiches I helped Angus put the guitar and amp back into the truck outside. His guitar was black and I noticed a little scratch on the bottom.

"How'd that get there?"

"Oh, got that last time you were here. You tripped over something...dropped the guitar and caught you...somethin' like that."

"That's right. This the same guitar?" He nodded. "Gee, I'm sorry."

"Don't be. I'd rather it than you."

"But I'd have healed by now."

"Really it's fine. Now every time I play  it I remember you. And that awful sound it made," Angus smiled. "Linda got pretty suspicious didn't she?"

"Yeah she was. I'm really sorry I didn't want you to come with me on that walk, it's just, I didn't want to get between you and Ell-"

"Hey," he said turning me to face him. "Don't say that, you're not getting in the way of anything." I looked down at my feet and he tilted my head up. "Hey, look at me." His eyes were serious. "You're not getting in the way of anything." Yeah, that helps. He stared at me funny, then looked over my shoulder.

"Hey Ang! What're you doin' to the poor girl?" a voice called behind me. I turned around to see a smug looking Malcolm walking up to us.

"Didn't do nothing Mal. Phil send you to hunt us down?" Angus answered.

"Came to your room to ask if you were ready to set up equipment, found the door wide open and no one inside. Saw you two outside by the truck an' came out. Luckily for you I showed up and closed the door before some nanno shows up to make off with your stuff." A short silence followed. "You're welcome."

"Thank you Mal," I smiled. He smiled back and nodded.

"What're you doin' out in the cold anyway?"

"Just putting some stuff away," Angus answered.

"Why was it out and about anyway?"

"Wanted to play for a bit. Bites not havin' somethin' to do with my fingers."

"...that's gross Angus." I laughed, Angus only chuckled.

"Hey, well..."

"You're out in your pajamas." Angus looked down and noticed his pajama pants. He had a jacket over his shirt.

"'Cause I just woke up," he smiled.

"Still early too."

"I know, can't keep my eyes open." The brothers laughed and I smiled. The fact that these two were related made me happy. I liked to see them bond as they did.

"You cold Hannah?" Malcolm asked me. I shrugged.

"I mean, a little. I guess."

"Ya' hear that Ang? Your lady's cold." Angus gave him a funny smile.

"My lady? Mal?"

"Well ain't she?" I looked back and forth at the two. Angus stood with his hands in his pockets head lowered, giving one of those irritated smiles. Malcolm had one hand pocketed and was giving his brother a smirk. "Ain't she?" Malcolm laughed. Angus shrugged.

"Is she?"

"What do you say Hannah?" Malcolm asked.

"Crap, don't bring me into this," I laughed.

"Bother someone else Mal, we're gettin' cold out here," Angus said.

"Alright, alright. Let ya' get ready then we oughtta get goin'. Ang, don't let her freeze." Malcolm winked at me then headed back to the hotel. I hugged myself now aware of how cold I was.

"Daft sod," Angus mumbled, snickering a bit. He stared at me a moment then finally grabbed my hand. "Come on."
