23. Let Her Go.

Nat blocked Kyle when he went to start something with Chris, “Kyle, no.” he said, then wrapped his arms around Kyle when he tried to walk around him.

“Get the fuck off me, Nat!” Kyle said, his voice hard.

Kyle fought in Nat's arm and next thing he felt was pain in his manhood. He cried out as his arms dropped from Kyle, falling to the ground. He felt small hands go on him and he looked up at Cam, who looked scared.

He turned to look at Kyle before he threw the first punch, almost missing Chris's face, but got his chin. Kyle went to threw another punch but Chris grabbed his arm faster and threw before Kyle could block it. It was going to quickly and Nat watch as people weren't trying to stop it.

Kyle was seeing red from his car being destroy and he knew nothing was going to stop him. Kyle has a bad anger, when he gets sets off nothing stops him. Of course he's going to be super pissed—look at his car!

Nat took a deep breath, breathing back the pain before pushing himself up. Reaching for the first thing he could, he grabbed Kyle by his navy shirt and it was like pulling a bull away from a fight, “Kyle, that's enough!”, he yelled, pulling Kyle away from Chris.

“You're parents better get you a good lawyer before I'm suing your ass!”, he said.

“Go ahead! Take everything from me!”, Chris said and Kyle tried to push Nat away again, but Nat held onto Kyle harder.

Nat put his hands on Kyle neck and made him look at Nat, “Kyle, stop it.”, he whispered, his voice hard. “They're video taping this, cut it out before you do something else.”

“He ruined my car, Nat!”, he said. “Get the fuck out of my way—I thought you were my friend!”

“I am your friend, which is—”

“Then help me!”, he said. “What if this was your car? You wouldn't want to beat the shit out of him?”

“I know, I know, Kyle, but if you were my friend I would want you to make me stop because I make myself look like an idiot.”, he said. “I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's true. You should go home.”

“Where's home?”, he asked, pushing Nat away. “LA? Here in Storm?”

“Kyle, cut it out.”, Nat said since Kyle was yelling again. He wanted this all to be privet before it gets on the internet and there something else to talk about the Sons of Adam band.

“You know what—I quit!”, he said and Nat's eyes widen very quickly, not sure if he heard Kyle. “I quit your band Nat! Find a new drummer.”

“Kyle!”, Nat said. “Look, we'll talk about this in the morning and—“

“No! I'm tired of you telling me what to do! I'm out of the band!”, he said, walking away and Nat ran his hand through his hair before cursing. He turned around to face Chris before walking over to him, taking the bat away from him, “Go home—it's over now.”

He took one look behind Nat where he knew he was looking at Kim before turning around and going over to his car. Nat brought his hand up to the back of his neck as he looked down at the ground, “You all should go back in now, the fights over.”

Some whispering came before all the people who came out side turned and went back to their dance but Cam, Ray, and Kim. He turned around to face them and Cam had her hand covering her mouth, “Oh, my God. Nat, did Kyle—”

Nat shook his head as he put the bat down and walked over to her, “I don't want to talk about Kyle right now.”, he said as he walked over to her, breathed hot breath into his hands, and rubbed her arms quickly since she was shaking from the cold fall air and she was in the small dress. She must be freezing and her nose was a little red.

“I need a ride home.”, Kim said, finally looking up at the ground and at Nat. “If you don't mind.”

Nat could have said no to her since it was her fault why Kyle came here and end up quitting the band. Kyle may be an asshole, but it comes to the band, they all take it seriously. But he knows he should never judge anyone now, “Yeah.”

“Can I get a ride to?”, Ray asked. “I don't think I can go back in there after all that.”

. . .

“Thanks Nat.”, Ray said and smiled at Cam. “It was fun while it lasted. I do love your dress, got to let me borrow it when my cousin Quince comes.”

Cam forced a chuckle and nodded, “Sure. Goodnight, Ray.”

Ray turned around and walked over towards her house. Nat pulled away from the curb and drove, “So I guess you don't want to go back to the dance, huh?”, he asked and she shook her head, pulling Nat's leather jacket that had fur inside closer to her.

Nat drove up to the bridge that was in town that went over to the small creek, “I can't believe tonight was ruined.”

“I'm sorry, Cam. I know how much it meant to you.”, he said and she turned to look at him. “Well at least this time it wasn't my fault. Everyone can talk about someone else other then me.”, he sarcastically said.

“Did Kyle really mean that he quit the band?”, she asked and she watched him bit his bottom lip.

“I don't know.”, he said as he looked up at her. “He could have said it out of anger or he was serious.”

“Can he just quit like that?”, she asked.

He shrugged his right shoulder, “As long as there a Sons of Adam with me as the lead singer, the others can go as they wish. We agreed we'll never quit though, but we we're fifteen and sixteen when we said that.”

She reached out and took his hand, “I'm sorry, Nat.”

He gave her a small smile, “You don't need to apologize. If Kyle really wants to quit the band, I can't tell him no even though how much I want to.”

“I wish it happened after the dance, we didn't even get to dance one more time.”, she said, frowning. “But there'll be more dances.”

“I'm guessing Jordan after party is out of the question.”, he said and she nodded.

“I don't want to go home yet, I got four more hours.”, she said, looking out the window. “You're right, it must be nice not being the cause of the problem. Did a very good thing before Kyle did something he might regret.”

“Him and the others always got me out of bad situations before.”, he said. It was quiet in the car now and Cam was trying to figure out what to say. When she did, she finally opened her mouth but he spoke, “Come on.”, he said, opening his door and her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.

“W-where?”, she asked but he didn't answer, just closed his door behind him. She hesitated and he turned towards the car, waving for her to come on. She groaned, taking in another second of warmth before opened the passenger side door and got out, pulling the jacket closer to her as she walked over next to Nat's side. “Why'd you make me get out?”, she asked him as they walked across the street to the park.

He didn't answer her, just continued to walk, and she was really curious to what he was up to. They came up to her the gazebo in the park. It was old with cracked paint and she gave Nat a look when he took her hand, pulling her up the door steps and went into the middle of the gazebo.

He reached into his back pocket and pulled out his phone, scrolling threw something, “You said you wanted one more dance, I'll give you that.”, he said and she scuffed, but smiled.

Music started playing and the singer started to sing when Nat put the phone in the pocket of his coat she was wearing. He took her hand and positioned them. She couldn't help smiling very big, finding it very sweet even though her legs were getting cold. She ignored it and pressed herself against him, getting warm by being so close to him.

She laid her hand against his shoulder and closed her eyes, “I love you, Nat.”, she said. “You're always surprising me.”

“Good.”, he chuckled. “I love you to, Cam.”
