12. Like We Used To

Nat strum down his guitar, “I'm on my way to making a change, to make it right, to maaake sure I wont mess up. I know I can do better if I know you will be right next to my side, guiding me on my way. Oooh, never go and leave me alone—that's all I have right now, but I think it's pretty good for half way through.”, Nat said

Rob sighed over the web cam, “Could make a hit for the next album—now can you stop changing the subject and tell me why you would say what you said in the interview yesterday? You know how stupid you are, Nat?”

“I said it cause I knew it would piss you off.”, he said, grinning.

“I wouldn't put it aside you but I know it something else.”, he said. “You were only suppose to talk about your tour in three months, not confess you stupid little love all over America.”

Nat grin stopped and he looked away, running his hand through his hair, “Cam isn't stupid.”

“It's all over, Nat! You wanted a normal life and now everyone going to want to know more. You just handed every gossip company the pen to start writing.”, he said. “You can tell me many different stories, so I wont bother waiting for the truth. The only good thing about this is was the publicity—which you did at the wrong time.”

Nat looked away again and looked at his clock, seeing it was ten thirty at night. Perfect excuse. “Well hey, Rob, I got school tomorrow. I gotta go.”, he said.

“What? No, Nat don't you clic—“, Nat clicked the X button and the video chat went off. He breathed heavily and closed his laptop. He turned on his bed to the small draw next to his bed and opened it. He took the small photo album out and opened it.

The first photo was him and the guys when they first started the band and they were in his parents garage. He couldn't help how he looked at just fourteen. He thought he was the shit with his hair and clothes, but now he realized why every adult told him to get a hair cut and new clothes.

The more he turned the pages, the more he realized he was more happier back then. He gave up so many thing and turned everything to shit over the past two years. He finally got to a photo of him and Cam. They were standing next to each other a little awkwardly holding each other hand. They had just started dated and they were still in the awkward beginning.

The next one, he finally gain the courage to put his arm around her shoulder and pull her into him, making them both laugh while the picture was taking.

Cam

Cam was hiding under her hoodie as she walked down the hallway as people were gossiping about her and asking her what was up with Nat on Saturday. She was pissed how they were gossiping about her, acting like they never knew they went out when they did. It was nothing new really here, everyone knew they dated back in the day.

Then Seth was brought in and talked about if he would stay with her since it hasn't gotten around they were over yet. She hadn't want to come to school but she had to act as if there was nothing wrong.

She got to her locker and opened it, grabbing her stuff. She could still everyone whispering, not minding their own damn business. Why does everyone get into things about celeb relationship? What was the big deal? They got as if celebrity weren't people to.

“I hate myself.”, Cam admitted to Kim.

“Oh come on, Cam.”, Kim said, taking one of her hands. They were outside at the baseball field since she couldn't take all stares in the lunch room. Cam had her knees up to her chest and she just felt like crap about herself.

“Everyone hates me.”, Cam said. “Seth broke up with and everyone thinks I'm slut because stupid Nat had to admit we kissed a few times.”

“Screw what they think,” Kim said. “Chris and I know the truth, we know you not like that. Nat shouldn't have done that, it was wrong of him. I can understand why you're so pissed at him.”

“He told me he still loves me.”, Cam said, running her finger threw her hair.

Kim was hesitant, “It doesn't really surprise me, Cam. And it shouldn't to you.”

Cam looked at Kim and wanted to argue that wasn't true, but she knew deep down inside it was true. She did know, she just wanted to believe her and Nat had moved on from each other and wanted to be just friend. It seems like it's true when they say ex's could never be friends with each other.

“I know.”, she said. “I thought everything will be okay but it just seems like things are turning to crap. My parents still can't look at each other, I really do care about Seth but it seems like he thinks I can't be trusted now, and Nat wont leave me alone.”

“I think...you still care about Nat to.”, she said.

Cam arms went around her legs tightly and hid her face in shame, “I don't know. I want to hate him but I also just want everything to be okay with us. I don't want to get back together after everything, it's hard Kim. Nat was my first love, can anyone really ever forget their first love?”, she asked, lifting her head up to look at Kim.

“It's okay, Cam.”, she said.

“Nat was my first—everything.”, she said.

Kim put her arm around her, "I know, Cam."

“I thought I was ready, I thought we could go through anything with a long distant relationship. I loved him so much I wanted to give it to him, thinking it would only make us stronger.”, she said, sighing. “I don't ever want to be hurt like that again.”, she said.

“You were young, Cam. We all are going to make mistakes in our lives. We learn from them.”, she said.

Cam looked at Kim and hugged her, “I'm so glad I have a friend like you, Kim.”

She smiled and chuckled, “It's because I love you, Cam.”

Chris turned around the block to Cam's neighborhood, “What in the world?”, he said when Kim said, “Wow.”

Cam eyebrows came together in confusion and she looked out her window down the block. Her mouth dropped when she saw a few people with camera's on her parents lawn. “What's going on?”, she asked and right when Chris car pulled up to the crub, the people came over to the car and started taking.

“Ah.”, Cam said, covering her eyes when one of the camera had a flash on them and it surprised her. All she could hear from the other side of her window was them asking about her and Nat. She groaned, “This can't be happening.”, she said, putting her hoodie on and put the hood up. “I'll see you guys later.”, she said, opening the door and the people made room for her to get out.

She remember back in LA when Nat told her to just keep walking and ignore them. So, that's what she did as she walked over to her house.

“Are you and Nat planning to get back together?”, one of them ask and she couldn't help herself from answering a 'no'

She hurried and ran up the steps, taking her keys out, and opening the door. She went inside and closed the door, leaning against the door shocked. She can't believe this was happening. Do they know how humiliating it is for them to be on her parents lawn where everyone could see? She wasn't anyone important! Damn people wanting to know Nat's business.

She went over to the window and peeked out. She took her phone out and closed the curtain. Going on Google on her phone, she tapped in Nat's name and the band. At the top next to News she could see many different verticals about Nat and her. She wonders why this is such a big deal when it's obviously not!

But she guesses it was consider a scandal when Nat breaks up with his big time model girlfriend to want old girlfriend back.

Nat pulled up to Cam's house and cursed to himself before getting out the car. He ignored the people taking his picture and asking questions as he walked up to the house. He knocked on the door and waited for Cam to answer.

“Did you come over to try and sweet talk her back?”, one of the noisy reporters ask?

Not helping it, he brought one of his hands up and stuck up his middle finger. It wasn't much of a surprise to them since he was pretty much known to do that a lot to them. His day was already pretty shitty, he wasn't going to let them ruin it even more.

Cam finally opened the door and looked surprised to see him, “What are you doing here?”, she asked.

“Let me in, Cam.”, he said, bopping his head backwards to the camera flashing people.

She groaned and stepped aside to let him in. Once he was in, she closed the door and crossed her arms, “I want them off my parents lawn.”

“You could have called the cops.”, he said, taking his glasses off.

“I didn't want to cause any more attention.”, she said.

Nat just nodded and thought to himself how he was going to start this conversation. He had plan to come here and talk about Saturday some more since yesterday he ruined it by kissing her. He wanted to apologize for causing a mess, he now realized how stupid it was to bring her into this.

“I heard about you and Seth.”, he said. Crap, bad way.

She groaned and walked towards the kitchen, “Come to gloat or something?”

“Of course not.”, he said.

She went over to the fridge and took a soda out, “Okay, so why are you here?”

“I came here to. . .I wanted to say sorry for what I said on the interview Saturday. I shouldn't have brought you—us up.”, he said. “Seth had pissed me off Friday and I wanted to get back somehow.”

Cam scuffed and walked over to him, “Your a jerk, you know Nat? Apparently you don't need to be on drug to be a asshole still.”

Ouch, that hurt a little, he thought

“Seth told me you started that argument.”, she said.

He scuffed this time, “He's lying—like how he's been lying a lot lately!”, he said.

“What is that suppose to mean?”, she hissed, angry now. “Seth's a good guy, not like how I can say for you.”

He let his hurt show on his face, something he doesn't usually let people see. “Cam, come on.”, he said. “Don't say you don't know.”

“Know what?”, she asked, shrugging.

“Seth's on drugs!”, he said and she snorted. “I'm serious, he's smoking pot and on pain killers.”

“Why would you say that?”, she asked, her voice hard. “You know something, you would say anything to make yourself feel right and like you in control.”

“Cameron, that's a lie!”, he said, his voice getting louder as he got angry. “Come on, don't be so dumb!

“I know what a person on drugs look like, I watched you look like it for the past year.”, she said.

Ouch again.

“I'm serious, Cam! And I got you that necklace your wearing, not him!”, he said and her hand quickly went up to the necklace.

“No! He said he got it for me.”, she said.

“No, I did!”, he said, giving her a serious look. “I didn't want to tell you at first because I didn't want us to fight like we are, but I'm not going to stand here and continue acting as if everything was fine!”, he said, taking a moment. “Why are you being so defensive?”

“Because I have to with you! To make sure you never hurt me again.”, she said, ranking her both her hands through her hair and dropped them. “Why should we get back together, we're always fighting anyways!”

“Because you wont let me in!”, he said, yelling back at her. “You wont trust me again, I’m not fifteen anymore Cam!”

Nat watched as she opened her mouth but she didn't say anything. She looked away then and sighed, “I don't know, Nat. I can't think right now with you here, it's to hard.”

“I know you still love me.”, he said.

“I want you to go.”, she said, looking at him. “Seth just broke up with me and all my feeling are mix. I need time to think.”

That wasn't a no, he wanted to say but just thought it. He bit his bottom lip for a second and nodded, “Okay, I'll let you think about everything.”, he said, stepping back a step. “I'll try and make them leave.”, he said, turning around and left her house.
