06. Ever Enough.

Cam was getting frustration, Where is he?, she asked herself, looking down at her phone and Seth was ten minutes late. School start in less then twenty minutes and she’s freaking out! Not only is he late, but it raining. Not light, but hard. He wont answer his phone, she didn’t make the bus, Chris car doesn’t work right now and at the mechanic  and her mom already left for work!

She groaned and went back inside her house, grabbing her blue umbrella. She rushed over to the door and locked it, leaving the house and jogged her way towards school. The school was about fifteen minutes away and she knows she’s going to be late, but she’s a good student. They’ll understand…she hopes.

Not looking both ways before crossing the street, she saw a dark car and it beeped it horn. Her blood went cold and she dropped the umbrella, quickly getting drench in ran. The car stopped only about four feet away from her and her mouth dropped in shock and fear.

She looked up at the car window, seeing who was behind it was the rain was hard, blocking who was behind the window. The car door opened and she was surprised to see Nat stepped out, “Cam?”.

She was to froze up in fear to say anything, she just stood there like an idiot with her mouth dropped. She can’t believe how stupid she was! She shouldn’t have paid attention and looked both ways! She’s so lucky she didn’t get hit, she could have died!

“Don’t just stand there!”, Nat yelled, walking over to her and grabbed her umbrella and took her arm, bring her over to the passenger door and opened it, putting her in. He closed the umbrella as he ran over to the driver and when he got in, he threw it in the back. “Jeez, I almost hit you, Cam. I’m so sorry.”

“It-it’s not your fault.”, she said when she woke up. “I didn’t look where I was going, it was just a good thing you have good brakes.”.

“Hell yeah, I could have hit you.”, he said. He reached around in his car and grabbed an t-shirt, “Here.”.

Cam took it and began wiping her face, but it smelt—gross. Her made a disgust look, “Ew, Nat, this skirt been used and it smells! Did you work out in this?”.

Nat looked slightly embarrassed, but he tried to laugh it off, “I forget to bring my stuff in. Anyways, what in the hell were you doing out there? Why were you running out in this mess?”.

Cam half-sighed, half groaned, “Seth didn’t come get me and I couldn’t get him on the phone. I thought if I ran to school, maybe I wouldn’t be so late.”, she said, looking at her hair and frowned. It took so long to curl it, now it’s going to be wavy and a little frizzy.

“Oh.”, Nat said. “Well, I guess I could drive you to school.”.

She gave him a half side smile, “You would really send me back out there?”.

“If I didn’t know you, yes.”, he said. “I would think your some crazy girl running out in streets without looking and might be a little afraid for my life. You seen though horror movies.”.

“Ha-ha,”, Cam said, fake laughing as Nat turned his car back on and drove. Cam looked around inside the car, giving a impressed look, “Nice ride, is it yours?”.

“Uh, yeah.”, Nat said, stopping at a red light. “I just got it in from LA, I missed it.”, he said as he ran his hand over the wheel. “Cam, meet Arianna.”.

Cam chuckled, “You named your car?”.

He shrugged, “I was so in love when I saw her, she had to have a name.”.

“Wow.”, Cam said. Cam grabbed the bunch of CD that was sitting in the middle of them behind the drink trays and flipped them to see his collect, “Ah, I see you still listen to Edwin McCain—oh my God, is that his actual autograph!”, she cried when she saw it, her heart racing.

“Oh yeah, pretty cool guy.”, he said. “Me and him wrote Starlight Dreams together.”.

Cam mouthed dropped and she felt excited, “Nat, I have to have this CD! Can I have it? Please!”, she said, pouting her bottom lip out and made her eyes bigger.

He looked at road, her, and the road again as he chuckled, “Sure, but Cam.”.

“Hmm?”, she asked, smiling down at the CD.

He reached over and pulled the victor down, “I think you would hate me if I didn’t warn you about your makeup.”, he said.

Cam cried in horror quickly when she realized her mascara and eyeliner had ran. Her eyes looked like a raccoon and a black line was going down her face. She grabbed Nat t-shirt and quickly rubbed over the makeup. She took her bag off her shoulder and was happy she had those tissues her dad always complained to her about having.

Okay, so today she was going to school bare faced, frizzy hair she’s probably going to through up in a bun, and she looked like utter crap. The things a girl has a deal with.

It was quiet for a moment until Nat broke it, “Remember four years ago, when Storm was getting signs of a flood?”, he asked and Cam looked at him, trying to wonder why he was bring that up. “It rains so hard that day and you were freaking out, saying how we’re going to die and crap cause you seen way to many movies about flood and you were trying to figure out a survive plan.”.

Cams face flushed up at the memory, “Nat!”, she whined. “Yes, I freaked out. Lets not think of ways of making me embarrassed.”.

“You forget what day it was suppose to come and you were at my house.”, he said, ignoring her. “When it started to rain, you freaked out and started bawling your eyes out.”.

She gave him a stiff smile, “You really like bring the past up.”.

He shrugged, “I thought you were adorable that day, you thought that worst. All it was about an inch of water and since I lived on a hill, it ran straight down.”.

“And you forced me to the window and showed me when the rain started to slow down and we ended up playing in the water.”, she said, can’t help but smile now a little. She then breathed out hard, “Gosh, why does it feel like that was forever ago? It wasn’t really that long ago.”.

“I know what you mean.”, he said. “Memories helped me a lot on tour though. After all the partying, I would sit in my hotel room or the tour bus alone all by myself. I had no real friend, but the guys, but they were busy so much in their enjoyment to notice, which I don’t blame.”.

            “Sounds lonely.”, she said.

            “It was.”, he said.

“You could have came home, though.”, she said, biting her bottom lip for a second. “I know why you thought you couldn’t, but your family still loved you and I’m sure they didn’t like the only time they saw you was when they have to travel out to see you.”.

“I know,”, he said. “Knowing it all now, I wish I wasn’t so selfish. I just thought everything had to go my way or it was the highway.”.

Cam saw the saw look on his face and she just wanted to make him feel better. True, he shouldn’t have been such an asshole, but that was in the past. No way to change the past, only way to live is to just move forward. She reach over and took his free hand, trying to comfort him, “Well you’re here now, Nat. You’re making everything better now. You had to grow up quickly, but now it’s time to just do what you want to do.”.

Nat arrived to school and parked his car and she grabbed her umbrella, but when Cam went to opened the door and hope she wasn’t any closer to being late, her hand was still in Nat’s and he pulled her back, “Wait.”, he said.

She looked at Nat confused, “What?”.

“I. . .Cam, I miss you—I mean, I miss hanging out with you. Lets hang out after school and do something.”, he said.

“Well, I can’t.”, she said, giving him a apologetic look.

He looked away and nodded, “Seth?”.

“No.”, she said, surprising him she guessed when his head snapped up to hers. “I mean, yes, Seth wouldn’t like it, but that’s not why. I have dance club after school, remember?”.

“Right, right.”, he said. “Well, how about after it? We could maybe…”, he trailed off, trying to think of place. “Jesus, I can’t think of anything. Storm doesn’t have anything to do.”.

She couldn’t help but chuckle at him, “About we go to the mall in Clinton? I haven’t been there in awhile and they have a new arcade there.”.

He nodded, “Okay, sounds cool. Pick you up at five?”.

She nodded, “Sounds cool. See you then, Nat.”, she said. She opened her umbrella and jumped out of the car.

            {}

Nat was walking down the hallway in a hurry to get to his locker and grabbed his math book and TJ just had to make his presence next to him, “Work?”, he whispered to Nat.

“I almost ran her over.”, Nat whispered, but hissed

“What?”, TJ asked, chuckling. “I said to make sure you were around her house, not to run her over when she begins walking to school.”.

“Well she was running and we both weren't watching.”, he said and when he got to his locker, he quickly put the combo code in. “How’d you make sure Seth wouldn’t make it?”.

“I had him up till three o’clock in the morning, he’s in a deep sleep like sleeping beauty.”, he said. “Now when Cameron ask where he was, he wont have an explanation cause I doubt he’ll tell her he was getting drunk and high at my place, so he’ll look like a bad guy. Did it go well on the car ride to school.”.

Nat grabbed his math book and closed his locker, “Yes. We’re going to hang out after school.”.

“Great. See, my plan is working.”, he said, grinning.

“Shut up.”, Nat said, walking away to get to class before he was late.

You should check out the video on the side, it's such a cool song and Debby Ryan plays the leading lady! And the video can't help but remind me so much of Cam and Nat when they walking around Las Vegas, it reminds me so much of them when they were in LA. :)
