05. Billie Jean.

When Nat walked into the cafeteria, he looked around for Dan was at a table he grown quite famous at. It was with a bunch of other guitarist and he had girls clingy to him, flirting. Nat was happy—better him then me, he thought as he walked over to where Cam was sitting. Her table always welcomed him, but they didn't much talk to him.

“Nat,”, he heard Amber and he paused, sighing.

This can not be happening, he thought.

“I need to talk to you.”, she said, getting up from her table.

“About?”, I asked.

Her table of peer lean eagerly to hear what she was going to say, but she was at least smart enough to say, “Can we in privet? It's important.”.

Nat looked over at Cam's table and she was laughing with some of her friends with Seth's arm around her. He wasn't so sure if either going with Amber was smart or going over there was smart. Everything he was hoping to happen, it wasn't happening. “Five minutes.”.

She nodded and they left the caf into a empty hallways. “Still thinking about trying to forget about it?”, she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

He chuckled, “I wish I could go back and slap myself, forcing myself to go home and away from you.”.

“Your still a jerk.”, she said.

“And your still a tramp.”, he said.

“I'm changing!”, she said. “For our child and me.”

“It's not mine until a doctor tells me it's mine.”, he said. “And I can you've changed—no one want to be around a pregnant girl.”.

She glared at him, “Nat, I'm trying to be serious here! I'm at least almost three and half months, it's around time we had sex.”.

Nat didn't feel like hearing this—how many time has girls tried to say they got pregnant by him? He's stupid, yes, but not that stupid. He turned half way around and brought his hand up to his chin as he chuckled, “Amber, I'm pretty sure I had a condom with me that night. I always have one with me, just in case something like that might happen. I don't care what you said, I'm pretty sure.”, he said, but honestly, he wasn't so sure.

“It's yours.”, she said, putting her hands on her stomach. She was wearing a jacket, but Nat could see a bump. He grimace and brought his hand up to cover his eyes, groaning. There was a possible chance that baby inside her could be his, he knew that. He couldn't just abandon and try to forget about the baby, he couldn't spend the rest of his life wondering. Amber put a hand on his arm and leaned towards him, “Nat, if you don't help me take care of this baby, I know ways of getting you two.”, she said and he looked down at her confused. She wasn't grinning evilly or anything, she still looked serious!

“You wouldn't.”, he said. “I came here to get away from the press, not for it come back and get me!”.

She took her hand away and stepped back, “I'll have no other choice. My child will have a father.”.

Nat body was filling up with anger and he wanted to hit something so badly. This can't be happening to me, he thought. He turned away from her to go back into the caf, “I wont do anything until it's here.”, he said. He should have none Amber wasn't as dumb as she made everyone think she was.

Cam was coming down the staircase when she wondered where Ray was. She wasn't at her locker and it was kind of strange. Her and Nat was talking about music at the lunch table and Cam wanted to know what song she was going to sing.

“Cam!”, Kim called and she turned her attention towards the direction where she heard it. Kim was at the school entrance with Chris, his arm around her. “Come on! We have practice to get to!”.

“I'll be there in a second!”, she yelled after her. She turned and knew one place Nat always liked to be while in school. She made her way towards the music room.

When she came near, she heard Ray's voice so she hid behind the entrance, “I don't think I could sing this, Nat.”.

“Come on, it'll be fun.”, Nat chuckled. “You gotta show everyone here that music is still real with all the pop garbage that plays now a days.”.

“Hey, I do like some of that garbage stuff.”, she said.

“Yeah, I guessed.”, he said. “So does Cam.”.

It was quiet for a moment, “Did you and Cam use to date?”, she asked.

Quiet again, “Yeah. She never told you?”, he asked.

“She doesn't talk much about you and when we try, she changes the subject.”, she said. “What happened?”, she asked. She then chuckled nervously, “Not that you have to answer, I'm being real noisy right now.”.

“Avoiding more seems like it.”, he said, chuckling. “I—I hurt her, I didn't trust her when I should have. When I left to begin my music career, I didn't trust her and believed lies I was told. I went out of control then with the drugs and everything.”.

“Oh.”, she said. “Dang, the media creates such a character of you. You come off as a spoiled wild child, but really—you seem nice. Sarcastic a lot, but nice.”.

“Will, I'm trying to change.”, he said. “Maybe if I change back to who I am, maybe everything will go back to way it was.”.

It was quiet again and no one spoke. Cam leaned against the wall and tried not to think about the past when Nat and her were together. They were stupid back then.

Nat cleared his throat, “Come on, no more avoiding, it's time to make you the queen of pop of Storm.”, he said and Cam quickly turned and left. She had to leave before Kim comes looking for her and Cam wasn't so sure if she wanted to stick around.

Cam walked into her house at five and she went straight into the kitchen to find something to eat. She was hungry after today practice. She paused in front of the fridge and saw a note on the fridge from her mom. She took the note and read it.

Cam, Ethan, remember you have to go out to dinner tonight with your father at seven. I wont be able to make it since I have to work late tonight. Sorry. Love mom

p.s. Cam, don't be eating a big meal when you get home. I know you.

Cam groaned, her stomach begging for food. She grabbed a granola bar instead and went upstairs to do some school work. She heard Ethan in his room, playing video games and she rolled her eyes. Video games are going to ruin his mind.

She threw her bag down on her bed and took her homework out. She munched on the chocolate yummy granola as she tried to solve the math problem when her phone suddenly beeped. She picked her phone up and saw it was a text message from Nat.

Movies tonight? You can bring a friend if you want and you can choose the movie?

She couldn't help but smile at the generous offer, Nice idea, but can't. Going to dinner with dad. . .

How are things with him anyways?, he asked and she sighed.

Complicated. Their trying to work out their marriage, but no progress.

Instead of finishing her math homework, she spent the next two hours. It was nice to talk to someone else about this since she felt like lately she's just been nagging to Seth about her messed up complicated family. She forgave her dad, it was hard to stay mad at him, but she also scared if they do get back together and he moves back in, will it happen again? But doesn't it mean if he's trying to fix it, he's serious about it? He wont cheat on my mom again? Apparently Lindsey was the only one he ever slept with, no other women. He told her he doesn't love her, she was only there to fill a need. Not that Cam liked that idea also, but he fried her and he told them she moved away.

Her father called thirty minutes before seven to ask if her and Ethan were ready. She checked up on Ethan and asked him. He said yeah and she closed the door, telling her dad yeah. He said he'll be here in ten minutes and she said by, leaning against the wall.

Ethan doesn't know what happened, but she knew he suspects something did. He would ask Cam if she knew anything and she lied, her parents not wanting him to know the truth and hurt him.

She went back to her room and changed her shirt. She went downstairs and waited for her dad to get here.

When he did, her and Ethan got into the car and they went to a Chinese buffet. After getting some food, she sat across from her dad. Ethan was still getting food and it was silent.

“So how's it over at Uncle Cole house?”, she decided to ask to break the silence.

He shrugged, “It's okay. Lonely a little. I miss being home, seeing you and Ethan in the morning.”.

“I look a wreck in the morning, dad.”, she said.

“Yeah, but I still miss having coffee with you.”, he said. “I miss all of you.”, he said, looking at her seriously. I know it would be asking a lot, Cam, but I was hoping...well, if you could talk to your mother about letting me come back.”.

Cam's mouth opened a little, trying to figure out what to say. “Dad, I don't know—”

“Do you want me to come back?”, he asked. “Cause if it would feel uncomfortable or something, I understand.”.

“No, I want you to come back to, but...”, she trailed off.

“But what?”, he asked.

She sighed, “Mom a stubborn women, you know that. She wont just let you come back that easily.”.

“Try to explain to her how important this is for us, though.”, he said. “I sleep downstairs, I just want to be there for you and Ethan all the time, not only when your mom will allow me to come over for dinner and leave right after. I should be there all the time.”.

“I know, but she wont see it that way.”, Cam said, seeing Ethan come over in the corner of her eyes. “But I'll try and talk to her.”, she said to him before Ethan could hear.

*

“No.”, her mom said as she took her coat off. Cam had just tried to talk to her mother about coming over and maybe asking her right when she got home wasn't a good idea. Maybe when she was in a happier mood.

“But mom, please.”, Cam said, leaning against the counter in the kitchen. “He just wants to be here, he'll sleep on the couch.”

“I don't want to see him twenty four seven.”, she said. “I'm still trying to adjust after everything.”

“But what about me and Ethan?”, she asked, looking at her mom seriously. “He hurt you, yes, like crazy. But what about me and Ethan? It took a lot for me to forgive him and I believe him when he says he wont ever do what he did again.

Her mom looked at her before leaning against the counter also, looking down at the table, thinking. After a moment, she finally sighed, “I know, I shouldn't be selfish and think of my own feelings.”, she said. Cam noticed how much it looked like it was hard for her mom to say, “F-fine, he can come back. But that doesn't mean we're back together, Cameron.”, she said, looking at her serious.

Cam didn't care, she squealed and kissed her mom cheek, “You're amazing, mom.”, she said, then thinking, Not yet, though. Your not back together just yet, but you will be.
