Chapter 4: Socially Awkward Delinquents

It was later in the day. My 5th period class was alright; I mean if you like books written from the 1800's and talking about stuff you don't really care about. My next period was lunch with my brother and his friends who I have count as my friends as well. I stood in line to get my lunch for what seemed like centuries and walked toward my table that my friends were sitting at.

"Spencerrr!" Jack said enthusiastically. Jack Miller was my best friend of all time! We've known each other since the first grade. He's like the first guy that I actually got along with. He had these bright blue eyes that always lit up when ever he laughed at something dirty in class. Like "turn to page 69". He had black hair that hung over his eyes and ears, and these brown freckles on the sides of his cheeks kinda like Ashton and I. He wore a lot of black jeans and band T-Shirts.

"Jaaack!" I smiled big, returning the ecstatic greet. I turned my gaze at Riley looking down at her lunch.
"Sup, Riley?" I said coolly.
"Aye Spence." Riley said with a mouthful of fajita.

Riley was Ashton's best friend (Ashton got along with girls a little better than guys, but he prefers to hang out with Riley anyway). She had really long brown hair, hazel eyes, she wore her black framed glasses sometimes, and wore a lot of plaid like I did. She was a tomboy to the extremes and would probably kill someone if anyone called her girly as she always took that as an insult. She never did her nails, makeup, or hair. But the only hair style she did was either a ponytail or an occasional braid. She was a fun, edgy, and all around an awesome girl. A little rude or vicious sometimes but only got violent when it was necessary. So if you didn't want any trouble from her, you should probably get on her good side.

The rest of the guys at our table were Seth Undermyre, Bryce Witherspoon, and Angela Sanders. Seth was a senior so he was 17 turning 18 this October. He was really tall, around 6'3" so he was a little taller than me. He had dirty blonde hair that was always neat; and he always kept it clean. He also had hazel eyes. He always had his nose in a Stephen King's book or working on homework. He was also the top of his high honors class in math and tech science. I feel kind of bad because he never has time to have some fun with any of us or his friends in his grade if he had any. But he's very responsible and mature so I had to respect him. You don't see a lot of people like that anymore.

Secondly, there was Bryce Witherspoon. He had the bad boy type of look but didn't really act like a bad boy. He was just a chill dude. He had black hair and brown almost black eyes. He was a little shorter than me but of course, I am a tall for my age. He always wore black denim jeans with a wallet chain (even though he doesn't carry his wallet and Legend of Zelda T-shirts.

Lastly, there was Angela Sanders- the girl I work with and liked. She had this "beauty mark" (or so she calls it) above her lip planted on the left side. But excluding how she looks, I think her majestic personality pieced her together like a puzzle. Well you already know how I feel about her.

My train of thought was interrupted when the other kids in the cafeteria were starting to grow louder when these two girl walked in. Riley started cracking up and showing off her crooked tooth smile she always had.

"What's so funny?" I asked.

"Oh!" Ashton interrupted, slapping the table with excitement. "Tell him what happened last period!"

This suddenly just got interesting. "What happened?"
"Oh my god! You would not believe what happened!" Riley said.
"What happened?!" I repeated, getting a little excitement in my system.
I won't go into complete detail about what happened but basically a girl fight broke out in Riley and Ashton's Biology class. Riley's face was nothing but filled with excitement when she was telling the story. I was a little hooked on what had happened because this heavier girl in our grade had fought some girl who likes to spread drama and lies. I didn't like her very much so I was kind of eager to find out what kind of karma she got.
"Wait? Lauren Miller?" I asked, shocked.
"Yeah!"
"That girl is huge!" I said.
"I know! It was insane! I couldn't believe it either!"
"I thought it was hilarious watching two dumb chicks fight." Bryce imputed.
"Those two have been on and off for months now when are they gonna grow up and shut up?" Jack commented. I agreed. Drama with girls is just exhausting. I've been there...
"Where's Angela?" I asked, getting butterflies.
"In the lunch line." Bryce motioned his eyes toward the mile long lunch line.
"Oh, ok." Was my response.
"Why?" Bryce asked.
"Oh," I froze. "Nothing."
"He looooooves her." Jack made kissy noises.
"No!" I shouted. My face felt hot and I was almost positive that I was flushing red. I couldn't tell if I was blushing because he knew it was true or if I was embarrassed that everyone would soon know about it.
"I don't 'looove' Angela! I mean uh- that's not what I mean I just-"
"Hey guys!" Angela said cheerfully, setting down her tray to sit with us.

Oh fuck. I hope she didn't hear that last thing I said. I started praying to god that I would suddenly get a brain aneurysm and fall to the ground and save me the embarrassment.
"H-Hey Angie!" My voice cracked. I cleared my throat. "How are you?"
"Hitting puberty still?" She giggled.

"Oh shush." I said quietly.

"Eh. Okay I guess. I mean I almost died this morning because people are so fucking stupid!" She started raising her voice a bit with anger.
"What happened?? Are you okay??" I sounded too much like an overprotective mom.
"Some asshole wasn't paying attention and drove out in front of my brother and almost hit us. So we slam on the brakes and my brother holds the horn down and starts yelling at the guy and then the guy had the nerve to flip us off like it's our fault!" Angie explained, running her fingers through her hair with frustration. "
"Flip him off back." Riley advised. That was always Riley's response to pretty much everything.

"Coming from the girl who gave some dude the finger for asking for a chair the other day." I said.

"Hey, that guy has been making moves on me for months now, I'm getting tired of it."

"Thanks for the tip." Angie said sarcastically. "I'll be sure to remember that the next time I'm right in the middle of dying.
"I think you're exaggerating a bit."Jack said. "Something else you wanna share? There seems like there's something else going on and you want to make us guess a million times until you actually tell us."
"No! I just hate people!"
'Couldn't agree more' I thought.
"Someone's got lady troubles!" Ashton said. Suddenly his turned to Riley and whispered "What are lady troubles?"
I almost squirted milk out of my nose.
"Well, Ashton if you were paying attention in health class, what lady troubles are is when a girl goes through-"
"RILEY!" We all shouted simultaneously.
"What?" Riley put up her hands in defense.
"We're eating!" I said.
"That's what she said." Jack muttered.
I rolled my eyes.

"You make me cringe, Jack." That had to be the worst joke he's ever said.
"So, Spencer," Bryce said in a over friendly voice. "Why don't you tell Angela what you were going to say about-"
"Hey Bryce, you know you look really good when you have your lips together like that. You should keep it that way." I hinted. Thankfully, he picked up the hint. I don't think I've ever been this relieved in my life.
"What were you going to say, Spencer?" Angela asked sweetly. She looks at me with her beautiful sapphire blue eyes and a strand of her light dirty blonde hair tucked behind her ear.
I waved my hand in dismiss. "Nothing."
"I have to go to health next." Jack said to me.
"Oh yeah? What're you talking about in there?" I asked casually.
"STD'S." He said plainly. "They're explaining how you remove them from area. Did you know you have to physically burn them off with-"
I almost threw up what just went down into my system.
"That's it I'm not hungry anymore." I said interrupting him as I was getting up to dump my tray. My slop of a lunch went down the garbage when the bell rang so I couldn't finish it anyway. I went back to my table after I dumped and grabbed my books and exited the cafeteria to carry on my long, exhausting, miserable day.
