Chapter 13: Truth
It was 10:27 and Demon still hasn't arrived yet...and neither has my ride. I had his clean underwear and socks in the bag of other stuff. I had gotten caught with his titey whiteys and I had to make an excuse by saying I needed them because I've been having 'boy troubles'. I don't wanna talk about it...
My phone rang. It read Angie.
"Hello?"
"Hey Spence, I'm sorry we're running late. We took a short cut through this private property and we ran over a spike strip. Thankfully it only popped one tire. So Seth is putting a new tire back on. We'll be over soon."
"Oh damn. Sorry about that. It's no problem. Just don't get caught by the owner...whoever that is."
"Yeah I think we'll be fine." She said. "We'll see you in about 30 minutes."
"Alrighty" I said, hanging up.
I leaned against the side of the house waiting for him to come until he finally pulled in.
"Hey there."
"You're late." I said a little pissed off.
"Whoa mister grumpy ass over here. I'm sorry it takes a little bit to get from Winston Hollow to here."
"Oh. I see."
"You got the stuff?"
I handed him the bag of supplies.
"You make it sound like I'm your drug dealer."
"Haha you're funny..." He said nervously, looking through they bag of goodies.
"Sweet!" He said, as he picked up the metal box. "Where are they keys?"
"They were missing when I found it. It was the only one they had." I said.
"Damn. I assume that's what the duct tape is for?" He slightly laughed.
"Yeah..." I said.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Just peachy."
"Okay....thank you for doing this."
"Just so you know I had to take Ashton with me and he asked a billion questions and I had to lie about it. You owe me big time."
"He doesn't know about me though, right?"
"No, I didn't tell him. I lied."
"Oh, thanks." He said, getting back into his loud beat up truck.
"Hey!" He said. "What're you doing tonight?"
"I'm going to the movies with some friends tonight along with this girl." I said. "But they're running late. They'll be here in like half an hour."
"Ah dang, really?" He said, rolling his eyes. "Who's the date with?"
"Angie."
"Sanders?? Dang dude good for you." He sounded happy for me for once.
"I know right." I smiled, thinking of her blue eyes. "Why you ask?"
"I was wondering if you wanted to come to a little party with me before your date. It won't take long."
"Really?? Tonight?"
"It's up to you. I just wanted to catch up with you. I mean you're my brother I kinda missed you." He shrugged his shoulders.
I guess I should go. Maybe I had a chance of finding out what's been going on with him. I ran to his truck and off we went to wherever land.
About two minutes into the trip, it was awkward silence. Until I broke it making small talk.
"So how have things been with you?" I asked.
"Eh, not terrible. How about you, man?"
"About the same. Andrew's been the same asshole he's always been."
"Little prick, I guess it's about time that I take care of it."
"You don't have to, he'll quit eventually."
"Yeah but hasn't it been like a year now?"
"....yeah." I sighed. "So where are is this party? Is it gonna take long?"
"Just relax, it's at Winston Hollow. We'll probably be back in time for your date."
After ten minutes, we were on this dirt path in the middle of the woods. It was pretty deep into the woods and away from our town. We pulled up to this three story that looked abandoned. There was colored lights coming out of the windows bright enough to create beams out in the yard. There was shitty rap music blasting throughout the house that I could hear it about 900 feet away.
"So what do you exactly do at your kind of parties, Demon?"
"I'd rather not tell you what I do to your innocent mind but I'll tell you what not to do at these kind of parties."
This made me uneasy.
"Don't go in the backyard with those guys," He pointed to behind the house. "Please for the love of God cover your drink if you're offered one; better yet, don't take a drink from anyone here. Don't try anything here anybody gives you and please stay close to me. Just be cool, but not cool enough to the point where you come off as arrogant 'cause you'll piss them off."
Now I'm confused.
I nodded.
We nudged our way through what must have been like fifty people in the room. This whole place reeked of alcohol and weed. Everybody was being so loud and they looked high out of their minds. While heading up a crowded staircase, we received a few "sup"s and "What's good?". I returned them with the typical white person half smile, which by the way I hate doing but I'm just so awkward I can't help it. I've never felt so out of place in my life.
"Hey hand me that bag of shit over there, would ya?" Demon ordered me.
He started putting a bunch of sandwich baggies into the metal box I had bought him.
"Hey what is that?!"
"Don't worry about it!" He stammered.
We were interrupted by the door opening and this guy with long curly dirty blonde hair barged in. He was way taller than me by a good eight inches and he was wearing a really dirty and baggy white shirt and he was sagging his pants. I couldn't really see his face that well but I saw that he has couple of face tattoos, along with his arms. They didn't look that good either.
"Hey Demon, you got those goods for me yet?"
"Sure do, Chase."
"Been over three weeks now it better be good. You owe me big, man."
I saw Demon grab something out of his back pocket and give it to this Chase guy.
"Where's the rest?"
"What?" My brother's eyes widened.
"The rest of my goods, Demon. The rest of the goods that I paid you two hundred bucks for?! Please tell me you have it!"
Demon rapidly searched his pockets, the box, and under the sheets on the bed. What was left of them anyway...
"Chase, dude, l-let me fix thi-" Demon's stammering was interrupted when Chase grabbed a hold of Demon's shirt and bringing him close to his face.
"Hey!" I yelled. "What the fuck do you think you're doing?!"
"Who's this string bean?!" Chase said.
Demon sighed. "He's my little brother."
"Why the fuck you bringing kids here, man?! Get him outta here!"
"First of all, I am 13 days from being age of consent so I am not a kid. Second, what is my brother doing that you feel the need to man handle him like this?!" I was trying so hard not to show how terrified I was.
"None of your business, drill bit!" He gave me a kick to the groin and I went down. Demon tried to escape Chase's grip but it only made the situation worse for him. Chase shoved Demon against the wall, making the other furniture rattle.
"Listen here asshole, now you're gonna get the rest meth you owe me. It's been weeks, Demon! I'm not waiting anymore! Now you're gonna find a way to get it to me this week, otherwise, you won't live to see your little Hot Topic looking ass brother again. Got it?!"
This was the first time in years since I've seen Demon truly petrified.
He threw Demon to the ground and left, slamming the door. The room was now silent; except for the blaring shitty music of course. I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed. I started piecing things together now. Him being gone for so long and why he was acting kind of skittish. Why he needed all of these things. Also Chase mentioned meth so that was a big giveaway to what he's been doing for months.
"You're selling drugs?!" I screamed.
