Garrisonburg, Maryland

Amy's POV

"You gonna buy something, or just loiter around?" asked the mini mart clerk. My eyes were glued to the new flavored Doritos. Its was BBQ Nacho Cheese. At the same time, I also wanted Cooler Ranch Doritos. I only had enough money to buy just one flavor. I couldn't make up my mind.

"I'll be out soon, I promise!" I said.

"I see you here every afternoon," said the mini mart clerk. "All you do is just loiter around, and not really buying anything. Either buy something, or get out."

"Yes, sir," I sighed. I got the new flavored Doritos. The mini mart clerk flashed me a dirty look, as he scanned my snack.

"$4.81, please."

I paid with a five dollar bill, and left the mini mart. I walked by the Garrisonburg Funeral Home, where I saw a hearse in the parking lot. It was a brick building, with white tainted windows. The hearse was a white Cadillac, with a Maryland license plate.

I walked into my house, where my mom was waiting for me.

"Where have you been?" she demanded.

"I was just at the mini mart, Mom!" I protested. "Is that a problem?"

"You know darn well, when you come home from school, you're supposed to do your homework! You didn't even leave me a note, to let me know where you were!"

"Sorry!" I snapped.

"Just be quiet, and get busy! I gotta cook something for dinner!" And with that, my mom was in the kitchen, getting out a pot, a can of spaghetti sauce, and a box of ziti from the cabinet.

My dad wasn't home from work yet. He worked as a Maryland state trooper. I went into my room, which was a total pigsty. A jungle of a mess, with ripped, dirty jeans, socks with holes, and cookie crumbs all over my bed sheets. I got busy and did my Algebra homework.

With my homework now taken care of, it was finally time for dinner.
