Chapter 6
Eileen POV.
I pulled into my parents estate. The giant house stood like a silent wall. My mother and father had moved in about ten years prior. I was still in high school and daddy had been running for Governor of New York. He had won but I was teased mercilessly through high school and college, call the favorite cause my dad was on the board and in a position of power. I reality I was a grade A student cause I studied and worked hard. No extra special treatment. I never wanted that.
At Stanford, I was teased and told to go home cause I was not smart enough. Well I sure showed them.
I parked my Lamborghini and got out. My black Louboutin heels clacked on the drive way up to the front doors. I pressed the doorbell and the Butler immediately answered.
"Miss Field." He smiled.
"Hello Jerome." I smiled back. The white haired butler had been apart of the family for years.
"Do your parents know of your arrival?" He led me to the sitting room.
"No. I told them I would come for dinner but they did not tell me when. I guessed that 5 would be fine." I shrugged.
"Very good miss." He opened the door. "Oh and Miss Eileen?"
I turned to face him. "Yes?"
"There is a guest here." He nervously glanced at his hands.
"Who is it? I love company." I brushed a hand over my tight black dress. " Do I look good?"
"Yes ma'am but the visitor its-"
I pushed the doors open.
"Mom, Dad." I called as I stepped in. I stopped dead in my tracks there on the chaise lounge was my enemy. The devil himself. Nicholas Winston.
"Eileen, honey. Good to see you." My prim mother rose and sauntered over to me and kissed my cheek.
"Eileen." My father wrapped me in his arms.
"Hello Eileen." Nicholas stood.
I extended my hand. He shook it. "Hello Nicholas." I tried to respond coolly.
"Sit sit." My father motioned for all of us to sit. We sat and awkwardly danced around topics for an hour sipping wine. Then my father dealt me a hard blow.
"Your mother and I are leaving for a month." His mouth was set in a firm line.
"A month." My wine glass threatened to tip. My hands started to shake. "What?.. You're going to leave me alone?"
My mother rubbed my hand. "Not alone." Her soft voice made my hands stop shaking and my spinning mind focus.
"Not alone?" I began to breathe again.
"No." My father's face hardened. "I will never leave you in the same area as that sleezebag. Ever."
"Who is it?" I looked at Nicholas who was quietly watching me. I was embarrassed that my emotions were showing this much, and my flaming face proved it.
"It's someone you know." My father looked at Nicholas too.
I put the pieces together. "No." I shook my head. "Oh no." I stood and stormed out of the room as my father called to me. I heard the door close as I ran to my old hiding spot. I crumpled down on the lounge and covered my face. I heard a footstep near me. I glanced up and saw Nicholas.
"I don't want to talk to you."
"Eileen, listen." Nicholas pleaded. "Look I know I am not your favorite person, but your father was right in asking me. I never want to see you hurt again." He sat next to me. "I know I hurt you. I am sorry."
I sucked in a breath. "I am sorry. That's it? I suffered for three years seeing you around the campus with a new girl on your arm each month. I watched in silence as my boyfriend slowly disappeared and was replaced by a jock. I then ended the relationship and was teased during my senior year of high school. People said I was unable to keep my college boyfriend satisfied. I was worthless." I looked at his drooped head. His hair looked so soft. I reached out to touch it but then pulled back, remembering that I couldn't let my emotions run me.
"Eileen." He whispered. "I know I screwed up. Please give me a chance. I would never forgive myself if something happened to you. Please let me help."
I looked at him. "Fine. You have a month to prove yourself to me."

Griffin POV.
"This is going to be a unique month, my dear." I placed my hand over my wife's.
"Do not look at me like that. This was your idea remember?" She rose a perfect brow.
"You are correct sweetheart. It was me. I just want her to be happy."
"I know hon. I know."
