Chapter 5
Nicholas-
I woke with a start. Flashes of a man hurting Eileen had been playing through my head. I grabbed my Iphone and checked the time.
5:30 am. I sighed and then pushed out of bed. I went downstairs and worked out for three hours. I took a record braking shower then got in my black Cadillac Escalade SUV. I spent the thirty minute drive listening to classical music. I don't know why, but it soothed me. I pulled into the office and walked in.
Eileen was still bothering me. Last night's phone call was still bugging me. She had needed someone then she pushed me away.
"Mr. Winston?" A voice snapped me from my thoughts.
"Yes Patricia?" I walked swiftly to my private office and she tried to trail behind.
"Your nine o'clock is on line three. Also someone from Field..." She looked at the note in her hand. "Enterprises, called. They would like a swift return of call."
Eileen. "Who left the message?" I picked up a file that she had laid on my desk.
"A Mr. Field."
Crap. Eileen's dad. I was going to die.
"Thank you. You can leave now." I motioned to the door. Patricia scurried out the door and left me in silence.
I sighed and picked up my client from Korea on line three.
"Hello. This is Nicholas Winston."
-------
two hours later.
I sighed and hit the end button on my bluetooth head set. My client had picked up a multi- million dollar deal and I had signed on to it but I was to nervous about what Griffin Field was going to do to me to really celebrate.
I checked the note Patricia left me. 343-554-7890. I dialed the number and listened to the ringing.
"Hello this is Griffin Field." The older man's silk smooth voice came over the line.
"Hello Mr. Field. This is Nicholas Winston." I prayed silently that he would be a little understanding. I didn't think I did anything wrong but I was to nervous to care.
"Ah Nicholas. I had tried calling earlier and your receptionist said that you were busy."
"Yes sir, I am well aware. I am returning your call from this morning." I stood and started pacing.
"Nick. I need you to do something for me."
"Yes sir?" I was so confused.
"Could you please look after Eileen? I know you two did not split on happy terms, but her mother and I are going out of town for a month and she had some issues the last time we were out of town."
"What kind of issues?"
"Well I don't know how much I can share with out Eileen's consent, but let's just say there is a man out there who hurt her very badly. She would come crawling home to her mother and I with bruises and scars. Not just mentally but physically." I clenched my fist thinking about what that vile piece of garbage had done to my Eileen. "She would say that he didn't mean it, or that he was truly sorry, but then it would happen again. The last time we left for a long trip, he came and beat her for leaving him. We filed a restraining order, but it hasn't done much. Please Nick, don't let him hurt my baby girl. Please." I could hear the tears in the older man's voice.
"Don't worry sir. I won't let anything happen to Eileen. I promise."
"Thank you son. Thank you." He sounded relieved. "Good bye."
"Good bye."
I fell into my chair.
How is Eileen going to take this?
