Chapter Two

"I don't get why you have to pick a Beta, isn't Alpha Xavier the Alpha right now?" Elliott asked.

Elliott wasn't technically wrong, but at the same time, he was. My father and I were the only ones who knew of this right now, as well as Uncle Jesse's family. Alpha Xavier and his mate haven't had a child yet, and Alpha Xavier had been having some health issues that might take him away from his position for a while if not permanently.

Since I was the only other Alpha here and since the triplets were Betas, it only made some that we would be approached about maybe someday taking over for them.

"Don't worry about it," I said as there was a knock at the front door.

My heart skipped a nervous beat when I could hear everyone start entering the room. I looked over my shoulder to see Alpha Trenton and Xavier walk into the room. I couldn't help but feel sad as I saw that Alpha Xavier was having to use a cane to help him steady himself.

Last year, sometime he helped to train some of the Warriors. Well, let's just say one of the guys he was training lost slight control over his wolf and wound up injuring Xavier. He was injured to the point that even his wolf couldn't fully fix it. His back had been messed up pretty badly, there were some days that he couldn't even get out of bed due to how much pain he was in.

"Sup kiddo," Xavier said, as he pulled me into a hug.

I lightly wrapped my arms around him, hugging him back.

"You're not going to break me if you give me a proper hug, you know," he said, chuckling at how gentle I was being with him.

"I know but your soon-to-be wife would kill me if I accidentally did so," I said, smiling at him.

Xavier was my role model. My father helped me as much as he could when I shifted for the first time and dealing with my outburst, but eventually he had to turn to Alpha Trenton for help. In his defense, he was a Beta when he still had his wolf, so he didn't know how to deal with some things. Alpha Trenton was so busy at the time that Xavier had volunteered to take me under his wing, he was almost like an older brother to me.

"How are you feeling?" I asked.

"Today's a good day," he said, smiling before he walked over to where Elliott was at on the couch.

I looked over to see Uncle Jesse and his wife Janet walk into the living room, followed by the triplets as well as their youngest. Their daughter, Quinn. I feel bad for the first boy to ever break her heart, because if Uncle Jesse doesn't kill them first, then the boys will. Quinn is two years younger than us, the same as Elliott.

"Elliott!" Quinn yelled out as she ran over to the couch, plopping down beside him.

"Hi Quinny," Elliott said, his cheeks turning red.

I was so ready when those two got together, you can tell how much they liked each other, but they were both too damn shy to make a move. That and I think Elliott was too scared to make a move on her due to four certain guys in her family.

"So have you decided?" Alpha Trenton asked once everyone was seated.

I bit my lip, nodding my head as I walked over to sit beside my mom on the couch. Everyone was staring at me, waiting for me to answer.

"I've decided on who will be my Beta if they want the position," I said.

"And?" Alpha Trenton asked.

"Before I say who it is, I just want to say that I'm sorry for whoever's feelings will get hurt from this and that I hope you three know how much I love you guys and that I don't want this to end our friendship," I could feel my eyes burning with the tears that threatened to fall if I didn't compose myself soon.

"My statement from earlier is still true," Scott said, making me smile at him.

Leo and Drew nodded their heads in agreement before I took a shaky breath.

"I chose Scott," I said, my voice firm as I made eye contact with a very shocked and surprised Scott.

"M-Me?" He asked.

"Only if you want it, I won't ever pressure you into doing something you don't want to do," I said. I refused to make eye contact with Leo and Drew right now. I could feel their pissed-off gaze staring at me right now.

"Why me though?"

"Because I've seen you help out so much with the pack when you don't even have to, and the way you treat everyone. You're so nice to people, you don't treat anyone any differently based off of their rankings. You only use your Beta strength when it's needed. You don't flaunt it around trying to prove that you're better and stronger than them."

Scott's face was so red, he didn't take compliments well. He had to grow up under the shadow of his older brothers who excelled in everything. His family and ours never treated his achievements any differently than we did the others, but that didn't stop some in the pack from doing it.

I watched as Scott sat there, like he was in deep thought before he stood up. He walked over to where I was sitting before he bent down, wrapped his arms around me, before he literally lifted me off of the couch into one of the tightest bear hugs I've ever gotten from him.

"T-Thank you," he whispered into my ear, his voice shaky like he was going to bust into tears at any moment.

I couldn't help but smile as I wrapped my arms around him.

"So is that a yes?"

I could feel him nod his head yes as he finally set me down onto my feet. I could hear everyone clapping and congratulating him, Uncle Jesse seemed to be beaming more than Scott was at the moment. He pulled him into a tight hug, telling Scott how proud he was of him, before I got trapped in the same hug as well.

"You're strangling our future Alpha and Beta, you know," Xavier said, laughing as my dad had to pry him off of us.

Xavier pulled me into a much more welcoming, gentler hug.

"You made the right decision," he whispered into my ear, taking some of the weight off of my shoulders.

It made me feel good knowing that my mentor believed in me and my choices. We pulled away from each other as I watched Drew and Leo give a very stiff congratulation to their brother before they stormed out of the house through the back door.

I managed to slip away from everyone to go follow them. I opened the back door to see Drew sitting on the steps that faced the woods and to see Leo sitting on the porch swing. Sighing, I stepped out onto the porch, closing the door behind me.

"I'm really sorry," I said.

"It's fine," Drew sighed out, sounding slightly defeated. He turned until he was sitting sideways on the step looking at me.

"Yeah sure," Leo grumbled under his breath.

"Shut it, Leo," Drew warned.

"No, if there's something he needs to say, then let him. We've always talked through our problems. Why should that stop now?"

"Out of the three of us, you seriously thought that Scott was the best option?" Leo spat out.

"I do, unlike you and some of the other people in the pack, I believe in Scott. He's a strong fighter, but at the same time, he's like a gentle giant. To many people with high-ranking, wolves worry too much over the power and the strength they can hold over the weaker members. Scotts is not like that," I said, defending my friend and my now future Beta.

"Yeah, and it's that gentleness that's going to get you fucked over in the future. You know as well as I do that he can't say no to anyone, and as for the whole, he's a strong fight, he can't even go against Drew and me, we always beat him."

"I'm really starting to wonder if you even know him at all," I said, sighing. Leo and Scott always had issues getting along and it appears they still do.

"Of course I know him, he's my brother for fucks sake," Leo said.

"I'm not changing my mind, and I won't be made to feel guilty for my decision either. Now I'm sorry that you don't agree with that, but that's not my problem, Leo."

Leo cut me a look before he stormed off towards the woods, probably to let his wolf out.

"You don't hate me do you?" I asked Drew, who gave me a soft smile.

"I could never hate you. My pride is just a little hurt is all, but my wolf will get over it," he said, chuckling at the end.

"Leo hates me, doesn't he?" I asked, finally letting the tears out.

I could feel Drew's hand gently take hold of my wrist. Moving me until I was sitting next to him, I was held against his chest as his muscular arms wrapped around me as he let me cry my eyes out as he comforted me.

"He'll get over it. Him and his ego-driven wolf were so sure it was them who was going to be picked," Drew said, trying to comfort me.

"But what if he doesn't get over it?" I asked.

"Then fuck him."

I could help but laugh at Drew. He always knew how to make me feel better.

"If it means anything to you, I do think that Scott would make a good Beta."

"Thanks Drew, sorry that I hurt Draco's pride," I said, causing Drew to laugh.

"Draco will get over it. I'm sure with a few head scratches and ear rubs from you he'll be over it."

I laughed as I dried my eyes. Drew's arm tightened around me, as I snuggled up to him.

"You know Leo is like madly in love with you, right?" Drew said.

"I know he is, I keep praying to the moon goddess that he doesn't ever bring it up, he'll definitely hate me then," I said, sighing out in frustration.

I've known for years now that Leo has had feelings for me. I've just gotten lucky that he hasn't ever made a move on me.

"Well, our eighteenth birthday is coming up soon, so hopefully she'll gift him a mate, so that he'll leave you alone. You've already got enough on your plate without my love-sick brother, causing more drama for you."

"I hope so. I hope we all get to meet our fated pair," I said.

"The moon goddess has a plan for all of us, so I'm sure we'll all end up where we need to be," Drew said.

All I could do was hum my agreement.

I hope that Drew's words were true. I hope that one day we all end up happy, and where we need to be in life. All I could was hope and believe in his words.
