Chapter Three
(Scott's pov)
Things have been a little tense between me and Leo since Maya announced which one of us would be her future Beta. Drew has gotten over it at this point, even apologized for how he acted that night. Honestly, I wasn't even upset with Drew, I had expected him to be a little upset, just because of how much pride his wolf had, it was only normal for him to be upset.
Hell, he even took me out for a celebratory dinner a few days after the fact. Shocked the hell out of me. He just barged into my room, told me to throw my shoes on because we were going somewhere. Next thing I know, we're pulling up to my favorite restaurant.
Leo was a different story though. He won't even look at me now, we were never super close, but he's just straight up shunning me at this point. He still acts fine with Drew, as well as our parents, but when his honey-colored eyes turn towards me, they are so cold and hateful. I've tried talking to him a few times, hoping we can smooth things out, but he just ignores me and walks away.
It's not just me he's doing it to, it's also Maya, I don't really care what he does to me to a certain extent, but when it comes to Maya, he's going too far. He's treating her as if she doesn't exist. Drew confronted him the other day about how he's treating both Maya and myself. Let's just say that it didn't end well, our father and Alpha Trenton had to separate them.
I couldn't help but to let out an exhausted sigh as I finished making my peanut butter and peach jam sandwich, my favorite. I recently started my Beta training, and let's just say that I feel like all of my limbs are going to fall off at any moment. I've never been so sore in my life.
I was almost done adding peach jam to my piece of bread when Leo walked in. I side eyed him as he opened the fridge grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge. He closed the door to the fridge before opening one of the cabinet doors, pulling out a small bag of Doritos.
"Still not talking to me I see," I said, hearing as he slammed the cabinet door shut.
"Are you more upset by the fact that you didn't get the position or are you more upset because I'm going to be working so close to the love of your life?" I asked, knowing that I was just adding fuel to the flames.
A deep threatening growl reached my ears, before I was roughly pulled back, my back slamming against the refrigerator. The force of it causing random objects to fall from the top of the fridge, to the floor.
"Why won't you just shut the hell up," Leo yelled in my face, his grip on the collar of my shirt tightening.
"Why won't you just talk to me?" I wheezed out.
Leo was gripping my shirt so tight that it was starting to cut some of my air way off. I wasn't freaking out yet, because no matter how mad he was at me right now, I knew he wouldn't kill me. At least I hoped he wouldn't. Leo could be a loose canon at times.
I watched as his eyes turned to a deep emerald green, signaling that his wolf was now present. His grip tightened to the point that I was now struggling to take even the smallest breath into my lungs that were starting to burn.
"L-Leo," I gasped out. Leo's wolf released a threatening growl that seemed to vibrate off of the walls in the kitchen.
This definitely wasn't like Leo. I didn't know much about his wolf. Hell a lot of people in the pack didn't. Leo was private in a way about his wolf, only a handful of people had seen him. I was starting to see why he didn't show his wolf so much now. For all I knew, this was his normal behavior, but my gut was telling me otherwise.
Leo's hands moved from the collar of my shirt to now wrapped around my actual throat. That's when panic set in for me. I grabbed hold of his hands, trying to pry them away from my throat. His grip only tightened on me, so I did the only thing I could think of. I mind linked my father.
"Dad, help!"
My vision was starting to blur, as this annoying ringing filled my ears. If there really was a moon goddess out there, I just prayed she would get my dad to me and soon. If Leo kept choking me the way he was now, I honestly don't know how much longer I could hold out before I blacked out, or worse.
I could barely make out what sounded like multiple sets of footsteps running in my direction. Black spots started to cloud my vision, as this unimaginable pressure filled my head.
"Leo, what the hell do you think you're doing?" I could hear what sounded to be my dad's voice yelling out.
I could feel Leo's hands being pried away from my probably now bruised neck.
"I said let go," my father yelled, before Leo's hands finally released me from their death grip.
I hit the floor, gasping for air as my mother wasted no time hugging me up to her, telling me soothing words as I struggled to get air sucked back into my aching lungs.
My vision cleared enough to see Drew holding Leo, so that he couldn't get to me again. My father was trying to get his wolf to back down, but it seemed that all he was managing to do was piss him off even more. It's like his wolf didn't want to let go of the control he had over Leo.
At that moment, I watched as my father did something I never thought I'd see him do to any of us. He raised his right hand before bringing it down as hard as he could against my brother's left cheek. Drew lost his grip on him, letting Leo hit the floor, who was now looking up at my father. Leo reached up, rubbing his cheek as his confused eyes met mine.
His eyes moved to my neck, watching as I still struggled to breathe. I could tell that Leo regretted what he had done. Well, I guess I should say his wolf.
"What the hell do you think you were doing? You could've killed your brother," my father yelled at him.
Leo shifted his attention back to our dad, who was fuming at this point.
"Don't," I croaked out.
Everyone turned to look at me, waiting to see if I'd say anything else.
"It. Wasn't. Him. Wolf," I was really hoping that they were making out what I was trying to say.
My throat was killing me, I was still struggling to breathe, my throat was intensely burning.
"What?" Drew asked.
"Not. Leo. Wolf," I wheezed out.
"I'm so sorry Scott," Leo sobbed out.
I looked over to see Leo with his face in his hands, his body was shaking violently as he sobbed. I moved away from my mother's caring embrace, as I crawled over to Leo. When Leo sensed I was near him, he pulled me into a bone-crushing hug.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to, it's like I couldn't control Draco," Leo cried out as I wrapped my arms around him, trying to comfort him.
I knew it wasn't Leo. Leo might not like me half the time, but he's never been this way to anyone in his entire life before. I wasn't mad at him, but I was a little scared of his wolf if I was being honest. More scared of what if this happened again, it was one thing that it happened to me, but if he was to do this to someone else in the pack, there could be fatal consequences.
"It's ok." I said, my voice barely over a whisper. I patted him on the back as he continued to cry, while he kept apologizing.
I met my father's eyes, only to see him looking at Leo with a somber expression. I could hear him let out a shaky breath before he turned away from us, pulling out his phone as he walked out of the kitchen. I could hear him in the other room talking to someone, whose voice I couldn't quite make out. I could tell it was a male's voice, but I couldn't identify who the voice belonged to.
Why was my dad acting like that? I've never seen him look at one of us like that, especially Leo before. He was acting like Leo was the first wolf to ever lose control before. It's not like there was something wrong with Leo, right?
Right?
