Chapter One

"Amara, honey get up, it's time for school," my mom said from the doorway of my room.

"I'm up, I'm up," I mumbled out, snuggling further into my pillow.

I could hear my mom let out an annoyed sigh before she spoke again.

"Amara, get up now, you need to get ready."

Groaning, I pulled my comforter over my head, trying to drown out my mother's voice. I could hear her walk away, before the sound of much heavier footsteps could be heard.

I could hear my light switch being flicked on before my room filled with light.

"Amara Grace Brenton, you better get your ass up, and start getting ready. When I come back here in five minutes, you had better be dressed and ready to leave. Do I make myself clear," my dad's booming voice filled the room, causing me to hurriedly scramble out of my bed.

"I'm getting ready," I said as I ran to the bathroom, as I could hear my dad walking away from my room.

My mom wasn't as strict as my dad was, but there was only so much she would take before she got my dad involved. If he said to do something, you had better get it done.

I brushed the knots out of my hair before throwing it up in a ponytail. I finished the rest of my morning routine before I got dressed. I grabbed my bookbag as I walked out of my room, right as my little brother did the same.

We stood there for a moment, looking at each other before Elliott spoke.

"Dad?"

"Yep, you?"

Elliott groaned out before he began walking down the stairs. I take that as a yes, I thought to myself as I followed him down the stairs.

"I thought I was going to have to come back up there for you two," dad said as we entered the kitchen.

Mom chuckled, as she sipped her cup of coffee.

"I made breakfast burritos. They're in the oven, get one so you can eat them on the way to school."

"Thank you," I said as I got me and Elliot a burrito a piece.

"Thanks," Elliott mumbled before taking a bite out of his burrito.

Elliott isn't much of a morning person, if you haven't figured that out by now.

"You two go ahead and get in the car. I'll be there in a minute," dad said as he stood from his seat, walking over to the sink with his dirty plate.

Elliott and I walked out of the kitchen. I was the first one to reach the front door. I reached out to grab the door knob, when a picture that hung on the wall next to the door caught my eye.

It was a picture of my parents, Baron and Emma. My dad had told me since I was old enough to comprehend things, that him and mom weren't my biological parents. That my birth parents had died when I was born due to a rogue attack on their pack.

I smiled as I stared at the picture a little longer. I may not have met them, but I feel like I know them by how much dad and my Uncle Jesse talk about them. Even though my parents aren't technically my 'real' parents, I've always considered them as my real mom and dad.

Just because we aren't related by blood doesn't mean they aren't my parents.

"Jesus Amara, hurry up and open the door, it's not that hard," Elliott said in an annoyed tone.

I shot him a look that he happily returned with a scowl. I sighed as I opened the door, to which Elliott pushed past me to get to the front seat before I could.

Did I mention Elliott is a bitchy person in the morning?

I got in the back seat, not really wanting to have an argument with him today. Soon after, dad walked out of the house, dressed in his scrubs with a thermostat full of steaming coffee. He opened the driver's side door, getting in, as he closed it behind him. It didn’t take long before we were backed out of the driveway, and driving down the road in the direction of the school.

“I’m surprised neither one of you wanted to drive today,” dad said.

“Don’t feel like it,” Elliot muttered. He looked as if he was half asleep still.

“I didn’t want to ask since we were kind of in a hurry this morning."

Dad hummed out his response as he pulled into the school parking lot, getting us as close to the entrance of the school as possible.

Elliot and I got out of the car after telling dad our usual love you and goodbye. Dad pulled off as we hurried up the steps of the school. I opened the door, Elliot following behind me as we walked into the school. The halls to the school were still filled with students, signaling that we hadn’t missed the bell for our first period classes.

Elliot and I went our separate ways, him going to his group of friends and me going to my locker. I put the combination into my lock, hearing it click open before removing it so I could get into my locker. I grabbed what I needed, before I closed my locker door, it wasn’t until then that I noticed Drew standing right next to me, he was leaning against the lockers next to mine, wearing his signature playful smirk.

“Jesus Drew,” I said, taking a step back.

“Do you know how long I was standing here before you noticed me? You're not as sharp this morning, everything good?” he asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I almost over slept this morning, so I'm still kinda waking up," I said.

"Ah let me guess, Uncle Casey had to get your asses this morning?" Drew asked, chuckling as I nodded my head, giving him a look that said everything.

Drew has spent the night at our house a few times. He knows how dad is, and can be at times.

"What about Uncle Casey?" Leo asked.

Leo was one of Drew's brothers. I was kind of surprised that Scott hadn't showed up as well either. The brothers were almost always together and with me for the most part.

"Having to get sleeping beauty out of bed this morning," Drew said, pointing at me as Leo laughed.

I gave them an annoyed look, as someone wrapped their arms around me, pulling me into a suffocating hug.

"Good morning Maya," Scott said, not letting me go until I hugged him back.

"Good morning Scott," I said, smiling at him.

Scott was the only one allowed to call me Maya. It was a nickname he gave me when we were little. When we were growing up, Scott had a slight speech problem and he couldn't say my name. One day out of the blue, he started calling me Maya, so everyone let him.

I always had a soft spot for Scott. He was more sensitive than his two brothers, he had a soft, cuddly side to him, while his brothers were your typical Beta stereotype. They were firm and an ass at times, they had this intimidating aura, while Scott only used his beta wolf when needed.

"Geez you're always touching on her Scott," Leo whined out, looking annoyed with his brother.

"Hey you leave my baby alone," I threatened as I pulled Scott into a playful protective hug. Scott beamed at Leo as he hugged me back.

"I thought I was your baby," Drew pouted, as he walked up to me trying to give me a hug, but Scott wasn't having any of that, he pushed Drew away from me as his other arm tightened around me.

"Yeah right," Scott scoffed out.

I couldn't help but laugh as I watched the three of them bicker back and forth. It reminded me of when we were all little and they used to fight over me like I was a shiny new toy. I had thought they would've grown out of it but I guess not.

"Man whatever," Leo huffed out as he yanked me away from Scott, to which Drew and Scott loudly protested, grabbing the attention of people in the hall.

Leo wrapped his right arm around my shoulders as we quickly walked away from where his brothers were at.

"So have you thought more about who your Beta will be?" Leo whispered low enough so that the humans in the school couldn't hear him.

I was born an Alpha Wolf. The triplets had all been born with a Beta wolf, which surprised their parents, considering their mother is an Omega and their father is a Warrior wolf, and a strong one at that. Alpha Trenton and my father both warned me that I could only have one Beta, and that I would have to be the one to make the decision.

What worried me is that I had made my decision already. I did it a while ago. I've just been putting it off because I didn't want to lose my best friends.

"We'll talk about this when we get home, yeah?" I said as Leo rolled his eyes at me, removing his arm from my shoulders.

"Fine," he huffed out, making me feel guilty already.

"Where?" He asked.

"Where what?" Drew asked as he and Scott finally caught up with us.

"She wants to talk about the position after school today," Leo said, causing the pit in my stomach to grow, making me feel more anxious.

"Well, whatever you pick Maya, just know that I'll support your decision," Scott said, giving me a kind smile.

"Thanks sweetie," I said as we split up to go to our classes.

"How come she calls you sweetie," Drew whined out.

All I could do was shake my head at them before walking into my class.
