Chapter Five

After Leo and I caught up to my father, we were buzzed onto the property. He opened the door to the building, holding the door open as we walked through. The building smelt like a hospital, you could smell the cleaning supplies they used, you could tell they kept this place as clean as they possibly could.

"It's been a while Casey."

"That it has Callum. How have you been?" My dad said as the two men gave a quick hug before falling into a comfortable conversation with each other.

"Callum, as in Alpha Trenton's brother Callum?" I asked Leo using the mind link with him so they couldn't hear us.

"Your guess is as good as mine, I've never met the man before," Leo replied.

"So are these your kids?" Callum asked as they turned their attention to us.

"You remember my daughter Amara and Leo is Jesse's son, well one of them."

"Look how grown you are now," Callum said, pulling me into a tight hug.

"H-Hello," I said, not really knowing who he was.

We've all heard from Alpha Trenton and our parents who Callum is, but I don't personally know him.

"Sorry, I know I probably made you uncomfortable. I haven't seen you since you were a baby, you had the chubbiest cheeks ever," Callum said.

I couldn't help but smile as he and my dad got to talking about how little I used to be.

"So what brings you here today?" Callum asked my dad.

"We're here to see Micah," my dad said.

Who is Micah?

"Well you know where he is, I have to go meet up with Sara. It was good seeing you."

"It was good seeing you too Callum," my dad said as Callum continued down the hall.

"Who's Micah?" Leo asked.

"A friend."

Leo and I shared another look as we followed my dad down a long corridor before finally stopping in front of what looked like a security desk.

"You here for Micah?" A man behind the desk asked.

"Yeah, all three of us."

The man pushed a button before the door next to the desk opened. We walked through the door to be met with a field that was surrounded by wounds, in the far distance you could see what looked like a pond.

The door shut behind us as we walked further in, it was so beautiful here, there were so many fresh scents here. I could smell the dirt mixing in with the freshly cut grass, the sweetness of wild flowers in the distance.

"Micah," my dad called out as he looked around, searching for this Micah person.

My dad called a few more times before my eyes widened. Micah wasn't a person, he was a wolf, and a huge one at that. This beautiful white wolf emerged from the woods, running full force towards us.

"There you are."

My dad wrapped his arms around Micah's neck once he had reached us. Micah looked slightly annoyed by my father's contact, but he allowed it. I watched as Micah's electric blue eyes met mine, Micah huffed out, pushing my dad away from him as he made his way to where I was standing.

Micah leaned forward sniffing me before looking back at my dad, who was smiling at him.

"I know she's not a baby anymore is she," he said, scratching Micah's head.

"Amara, Leo. This is Micah, he used to be my wolf."

Leo and I just stood there stunned by the words my father had just spoken. I knew my dad used to have a wolf, but I didn't know that he was still alive. Usually when we lose a wolf they die, but here was my dad's wolf standing right in front of me.

"How?" Leo asked.

"I had him removed," my dad said, as Micah enjoyed the head scratches my dad was giving him.

"Why would you do that though?" I asked.

"Micah was never meant to be tied down to anyone, we clashed too much, he wanted full control and I couldn't have that. It wasn't until we were separated that we finally started to get along with each other."

"But doesn't the Moon goddess pair us up for a reason?" Leo asked, with a strange look on his face.

"Sometimes she's wrong Leo, just like she's wrong when it comes to mates as well."

"But that's not right. Is it?" Leo asked.

"Packs are bad about preaching how the Moon goddess makes no mistakes, but she does," my dad said.

Micah walked back over to where I was at, leaning his head down, signaling that it was my turn to pay attention to him. I reached my hand up, touching his soft fur.

"Your dad and Scott talked to me about what happened the other day Leo, that's the main reason I brought you here. I brought Amara because it's a part of her Alpha training."

Leo looked at my dad with guilt filled eyes, Scott had talked to me as well about what happened. Said it looked like Leo had lost control of his wolf. He told me that it wasn't until their father slapped him that he snapped out of it.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I wanted it to come from me, once or if you do take over you'll read it in my file, and I'd rather it come from me," he paused, looking nervous to tell me this bed continuing "When I was little, my uncle killed my entire family, Micah had to force me into an early shit so that I could protect myself. Well when I was older I had a possession."

Leo and I both gasped at hearing that. Possessions are rare but when they do happen they can be dangerous.

"Your father Baron is the only reason your grandfather didn't kill me, him and the Elders were ready to get rid of the problem, but Baron talked me down, and I wasn't able to shift again," my dad took a shaky breath clearing his throat as he looked at me.

"After your dad died I went completely feral, from what Jesse told me, and I disappeared for quite some time before I returned. It was after that that I made my decision to have him removed. I was raising you at the time, I couldn't leave you again and what if God forbid it happened again but this time I accidentally killed you or anyone else for that matter. It was too dangerous for Micah to remain as my wolf so I did what I had to."

By the time my dad was done telling me his story, I was full on sobbing. I pushed past Micah to hug my dad, I never knew dad had such a hard life, how he managed to live a normal life, I just don't see how he does it.

"It's ok sweetie, besides if I hadn't gone through all of that, I never would've met your mother or had Elliott," he said comforting me.

"But it's not fair, you're literally the nicest person, you care so much for everyone," I sobbed out.

"Uncle Casey why are you telling me all of this as well?" Leo asked as my dad continued to soothe me.

"Micah how about you go take Amara somewhere over there, so that I can have a moment to speak with Leo. Yeah?" My father asked, letting go of me before Micah let out this grunt, like he was answering him.

"Why can't I stay?" I asked as Micah started to nudge me back in the direction he wanted me to go.

"You can come back in a few minutes," my dad said as Micah was growing impatient with me, giving my back a harsh shove, almost making me fall.

"Geez I get it, you don't have to shove me so hard," I said, glaring at Micah who huffed at me.

Micah walked up beside me as we started towards our destination, wherever the hell that would be. We kept walking until we were close to the forest edge, where I had seen him for the first time. Micah turned to look over his shoulder, raising my brow, I turned to see what he was looking at.

My eyes widened as I saw Leo clinging to my father as he sobbed uncontrollably. I've known Leo my whole life and this was the first time I had ever seen him cry. Even as a kid Leo was always the type to just shrug off the pain and put a brave smile on his face.

I guess after a while though, that fake facade eventually breaks. There's only so long you can smile and endure things. I turned to see what Micah was doing, only to come face to face with him.

When the hell had he gotten so close to me?

Our faces were only a few inches from one another, I could feel his breath fanning across the tan skin of my right cheek.

Micah's eyes felt like they were trying to bore a hole into me. The more I watched him the more I noticed how sad his blue eyes looked. Micah walked up to me, laying his head against my chest as he laid down, making sure not to put his entire weight on me. I couldn't help but wrap my arms around him, running my fingers through his fur which earned a deep groan from him. I laughed as he grunted at me, pushing further into me, demanding that I pet him more.

"So," I started. Micah looked up at me, waiting for me to continue. "You used to know my parents right?"

Micah turned to look over at my dad who was sitting beside a much calmer looking Leo. They seemed to be deep in conversation at the moment. Micah turned his gaze back towards me, in a way looking confused.

"Not those parents, I mean. I mean like my 'real' parents," I said, feeling myself cringe for using that term.

Micah's eyes turned cold as he abruptly stood up from where he was cuddling with me.

"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you," I said trying to make sure that he didn't leave.

"I was just curious is all," I added.

Micah side eyed me, as if contemplating what he should do.

"I, well I. I just want to know if they were as great as everyone says they were?"

My dad and uncle Jesse constantly tell me stories about how amazing they were, and I believe them, but at the same time part of me wondered if they were just hyping some of it up to make me. I don't know not feel as sad for the fact that I never got to meet them.

I watched as Micah came closer to me, his eyes holding this strange look to them. He lowered his head, before picking it back up, as if he was nodding his head yes.

I smiled as I leaned forward, wrapping my arms around Micah. His body tensed before relaxing. It was weird, at this very moment I was hugging my father's wolf, well I guess who used to be his wolf.

I'm so happy my dad brought me here today.
