Chapter Eight

(Leo's pov)

"Leo, wake up son. We're home."

Groaning, I slowly opened my eyes. Everything was so blurry, yawning I reached up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes as I tried to keep myself awake.

"When did we get here?" I asked, my voice was raspy from having just woke up.

The last thing I remembered was getting in the front seat of Uncle Casey's truck so that I could feel the heater better and that was honestly about it.

"A few minutes after I backed out of the parking lot," he said.

I looked in the backseat to see that Amara wasn't there anymore.

"I dropped Amara off at our house first, she said to call her whenever you feel like it," Uncle Casey said.

I nodded my head as I turned back around in my seat. I glanced over to my house as a pit formed in my stomach.

"They're going to kill me aren't they?" I asked, fearing his response.

"Your mom might," he answered honestly. "But as far as your dad is concerned, no. Now is he going to kill me? Probably."

I couldn't help but chuckle at his last remark.

"It's not like it's your fault you couldn't get ahold of them," I said.

"Yeah well," he said, opening his door, signaling it was time to get out and face my parents.

I couldn't help but flinch at the cold air that came rushing into the once warm truck.

"Is it always this cold?" I asked, pulling the blanket as close to me as humanly possible.

"No, give it a few months to a year and you'll adjust to cooler weather," Uncle Casey said.

"How come you're not cold?" I asked noticing he wasn't wearing a jacket.

"Because I have years of not having a wolf, this is just your first day."

I watched as Uncle Casey reached into the back seat, pulling up a dark green pull over hoodie.

"Here," he said handing it to me.

"Isn't this yours?" I asked.

"It is but you can have it."

"Are you sure?" I questioned as I slipped the hoodie on.

"Just between the two of us Finley bought that for me and I just absolutely hate the damn thing. I hate the color green but I don't have the heart to tell her that. So if it goes to you she'll cut me some slack for not having it anymore."

"Ah. Gotcha," I said, enjoying the warmth the hoodie brought me.

I opened the truck's passenger door, taking a deep breath before getting out, I could hear Uncle Casey close his door before I closed mine. I hugged the blanket that Sara had given me to my chest as I followed uncle Casey to the front door of my house.

"You're not leaving right?" I asked.

"I'm not going anywhere, I promise," he assured me.

I took a shaky breath before I opened the front door, we stepped into the house before I closed the door behind us. At least it was semi warm in here, I thought as I could hear someone running down the stairs.

"Leo!" Quinn happily called out as she ran over to me, trapping me in a tight hug.

"Hi Quinn," I said hugging her back.

"Uncle Casey I didn't know you were here," she said as she went to him, hugging him as well.

"Where is everyone?" I asked.

"They're here," she said.

"Mom, dad," I yelled out.

"Yeah?" My dad yelled back.

"Can y'all come down here please, all of you. I need to talk to y'all about something."

"Everything ok?" Quinn asked.

I nodded my head as I walked into the living room, it was only seconds later that I could hear my family behind me.

"Are you ok?" My mom asked, looking concerned as she sat down beside me on the couch.

"I'm ok," I said, trying to reassure her, I hated making my mom worry about me.

Drew and Scott walked into the room taking a seat on the sofa opposite of me. Once everyone was in here, Uncle Casey gave me a reassuring nod before I broke the news to my family.

"Why are you in a hoodie?" Drew asked.

"Because I'm cold. Why else would I wear a hoodie?"

My dad gave Uncle Casey a strange look before he turned his attention back to me.

"Uncle Casey tried calling all of you today. Several times. How come you didn't answer?" I asked.

"Damn cell tower got hit by a tree that fell today. Took them hours to fix it." My dad said, complaining about how long it took them to fix it.

"Honey what is it you need to tell us?" My mom asked.

"Uncle Casey took Amara and me to this place today."

"What kind of place?" Scott asked.

I looked over at Uncle Casey for permission to go into some detail about the place.

"Go ahead," he said.

"It's a place where they keep wolves."

"Like a zoo?" Quinn asked.

I shook my head before I continued.

"No not like a zoo. Where they keep people's wolves, their wolves that they have removed from them, either by force or by choice."

Scott's eyes widened at my words.

"Woah wait you can actually do that? I mean I've heard people talk about it but I didn't actually think you could have it done," Scott said.

"It can be done. I should know I'm one of them," Uncle Casey said, confirming Scott's question.

"Woah," Quinn said.

"By force or?" Drew asked.

"No, I'm one of the lucky ones. My wolf and I had a mutual separation."

"So what does that have to do with you?" Scott asked.

"Because, I. I did something today. Something that I'm scared to tell y'all about," I admitted.

I looked over to my father to see him and Uncle Casey giving each other a knowing look before he got up, and sat down beside me. He put a comforting hand on mine, as I squeezed his like it was the only thing keeping me grounded.

I felt like a little kid again, when I used to get scared I'd always hold my dad's hand as tight as I could, when I was little I felt like my dad was the safest place to be. In a way I still felt like that.

"We still love you no matter what happened today. So no need to be scared son." Dad leaned forward, whispering the last part in my ear so only I could hear him. "You're still my son even if you don't have a wolf anymore. It won't change the fact that I love you and your siblings more than anything in this world," he said as I finally broke down.

A powerful sob raked over me as my dad pulled me into a tight hug. My dad wasn't the type to show his affectionate side often but when he did I savored every drop of it. He always knew how to comfort me, he always knew the right words to say to break down my walls as well.

"What's going on?" My mom asked. Her voice sounded concerned.

"I had Draco removed today," I blurted out as I pushed even further into my father.

Geez this was embarrassing. Over here acting like a little baby. My dad didn't seem to mind but for me it was embarrassing. I hated crying, especially in front of my family, or anyone for that matter.

"You did what?" My mother's voice shrieked out, causing me to flinch.

"Lana," my father said.

"Don't Lana me. You, why did you let him do this?" She all but yelled at Uncle Casey, who didn't look phased by my mother's banshee screaming.

"I tried calling you all day, even Amara called the boys. What the hell was I supposed to do Lana, I couldn't leave him there. And Amara doesn't have her license yet, so it wasn't like she could have taken my truck to come get you. Trust me I tried all damn day to get a hold of you," he said, defending himself.

"Why would you let him do this though, he's only seventeen, he's not old enough to make this kind of decision not only that didn't he need to have us there since he's underage."

"Mom, please," I said trying to get her to stop attacking Uncle Casey.

"I will be with you in a minute," she said causing me to sink down even further on the couch.

"The law says that any wolf fifteen and older can if they choose to have their wolves removed without a guardian's permission. As far as letting him do it. I tried talking him out of it, especially since it was such a sudden decision. He's grown Lana whether you want to admit it or not he's a grown man now. If Amara or Elliot decided to do the same I wouldn't stop them."

"I'm sure that's easy for you to say, of course you're defending his choice. I don't know what I expected from the guy who had his own wolf removed."

"Lana," my father said not sounding happy with her at the moment.

"It must be nice being one of the normal wolves, Lana. You get to sit on your little high horse acting better than everyone else because you and your wolf have such a good and mutual relationship, being able to have an understanding of one another. While wolves like Leo and myself get looked down on like we're defects or something because we don't fit the perfect little example of what we should be. You have no idea how scary it is to be alone Lana and I pray to God you never have to. Leo almost killed your child the other day because his wolf was so power hungry and all you can think about is coming at me because he decided to take care of the problem. Wow, real mother of the year you are," Uncle Casey said, causing the room to fall silent.

Uncle Casey's firm gaze never left my mother's as she wiped away a few tears that had fallen. She finally looked over to me, like she was really seeing me for the first time.

"God Casey you're right," she sobbed out. "I'm so sorry to both of you," she said as she sat back down beside me, pulling me away from my father as it was now her turn to smother me in love.

"It's ok mom. I'm not mad at you. I imagine it is a shock," I said.

The tick in Uncle Casey's jaw never left as he stood from his seat.

"I'm going home, if anyone needs me you got my number," he said as he began to leave the room.

"Casey I'm really sorry, I hope you know that," my mom called after him, her voice sounding desperate.

"Yeah," he grumbled out before slamming the door shut behind him.

"I didn't mean to upset him Jesse."

"I know you didn't. It's just a sore subject for him, for me as well. I was there when it happened to him, both times," my dad said. "He'll get over it, just give him a few days to stew over it," my dad reassured her.

"Uncle Casey scares me sometimes," Scott admitted.

"Same, could you imagine how intimidating he was when he had a wolf," Drew added.

"Well seeing as I was the only one there when he had a wolf I can confirm he was scary at times. He may have just been a beta wolf but Micah's attitude and aura mixed with Casey's made him a force to be reckoned with," my dad admitted.

"I met Micah," I admitted, catching everyone by surprise.

"Really?" Drew asked.

I nodded my head as the room fell silent again.

"So why did you have Draco removed?" Scott asked.

"Because he scared me."

What scared me even more was the fact that after I had him removed he tried to attack me. Callum and the others had to sedate him so he could be dealt with.

"Why were you scared of him?" Quinn asked.

"I really don't want to talk about it. Honestly I'm exhausted, would it be ok if I go to bed?" I asked my parents.

"Aren't you hungry though?" My mom asked.

"Honestly no, but they said that was normal. They told me I'd probably get my appetite back tomorrow at some point, but if I didn't then to come back."

"Well if that's what you want to do then I guess it's alright," my mom said, looking reluctant to let me go to bed on an empty stomach.

"Goodnight. Love you," I said hugging my mom before getting up, my blanket still clutched to my chest.

"Love you sweetie, if you need anything during the night please let one of us know."

"I will I promise."

I walked out of the living room after saying goodnight to everyone only to stop at the base of the stairs.

"Oh hey. I um, I forgot to tell you guys something."

"What is it?" My dad asked, turning on the couch so he could look at me.

"I have to go back to that place once a week for a whole month for check ups. Uncle Casey offered to take me if one of you couldn't find time off," I said.

"What days do you have to go?" My mom asked.

"Not sure yet, they said they'd call me for my upcoming appointment. So I'll let you know."

"Ok honey," my mom said.

I told them goodnight one more time before taking the stairs two steps at a time until I reached my room. Opening the door, I quickly got in, closing the door behind me as I high tailed it for my closet. Opening the door I searched until my eyes landed on what they were looking for.

I pulled out the flannel pair of pajama pants that I had gotten for a birthday present. At the time they were too hot to wear but now, now they'd be perfect. I pulled down my sweat pants as I quickly slipped into the pajama pants.

"God yes," I groaned out as I walked over to my bed, slipping under my comforter.

I was still wearing the hoodie Uncle Casey gave me earlier. The combination of the clothes I was wearing and the glorious warmth my bed was providing I had no trouble whatsoever falling into a sound slumber.
