The Devil's Job (Part 5)

Y/n is seen riding in a car with Magnus in front of him. The Demon kept his gun aimed at the Human to make sure he didn't do anything stupid. The ride has been quiet so far, but Magnus finally decided to speak up.

"You know, Rider," he starts, "you and I are not so different."

"Oh? That right?" Y/n questions. "How so?"

"We both only do this for vengeance. My family was killed by scumbags, so I make sure I kill every scumbag I come across. Lucifer is the biggest one. That's why I have my gang. To kill anyone who we deem fit," Magnus explains. "You kill those who wronged you, and I do the same thing. You kill, I kill. You don't care for any unnecessary casualties, either, do you?"

"I'm nothing like you," the Human snarls. "You kill innocents, and I'll make sure you burn for that."

"Innocence is in the eye of the beholder," Magnus states.

"No," Y/n shook his head as his eyes flash amber, "it really isn't."

"Whatever you say."

Magnus grins as he leans back in his seat. Y/n scowls as he tries to keep himself in control. He couldn't kill the Sinner just yet. He needed to see Charlie and Angel Dust first.

Timeskip...

It wasn't long after when the car drove up to a warehouse. The car door opens and Magnus steps out. In his hands were his chains which led to the car's interior.

"Come on, Rider," the crime boss grins. "We've got a pretty little princess to meet."

"Yeah, yeah," Y/n said as he stepped out from the car. "Don't need to get impatient."

"Yeah, well, I got business to attend to," Magnus states. "So I tend to get a bit impatient."

Y/n rolls his eyes and glances down at the chains wrapped around his wrists. Magnus pulls at them and they walk forward to the entrance of the warehouse. Inside was lots of different Demons, both Sinners and Hellborns, walked around as they worked. They made drugs, constructed guns, and put together other items that would be considered illegal in the Living World.

"Pretty big operation you got going on here," Y/n says. "Makes me almost not want to burn it all down."

"Yeah, but you'll never have the chance," Magnus grins and turns away. "Stalker! Get over here!"

Y/n turns when he hears the sound of something poofing. He scowls as he sees Stalkee slowly approaching.

"Yeah, Boss?" Stalker asks.

"I need you to bring the Human here to the Box," Magnus hands the Imp the chains that held Y/n. "I have some work I need to do."

"Got it, Boss," Stalker nods and looks at Y/n. "Come on, Humie."

He tugs at the chains and pulls Y/n along with him as he walks. Y/n grits his teeth as he tries to control Zarathos. They soon make it to a separate room that had a red box-like prison. It was made up of four tall stone pillars with Demon magic creating barriers on all sides. Inside was Charlie and Angel Dust.

"Oh, shit..." Y/n says under his breath.

Stalker only grins as he leads the Ghost Rider host to the prison box. When Charlie and Angel spotted Y/n, they immediately sat up from sitting down and run to the red barrier.

"Y/n!" Charlie called out.

Said Human gets shoved into the Box after Stalked takes the chains from his wrists. Y/n passes right through the barrier and turns to glare at the shadowy Imp.

"You know I'm going to burn all of you," he says, "right?"

"Only if you get out," Stalker grins. "Which you won't."

The Imp bids Y/n a goodbye and walks away. Y/n slams a fist into the magic Demon barrier, only causing it to ripple from the force instead of breaking. Charlie, however, tackles her boyfriend into a hug with tears threatening to spill.

"Y/n, I'm so glad you're okay!" she exclaims. "How did they get you?"

"It's a long story," Y/n states. "You okay? Did they hurt you?"

He holds his girlfriend's face with concern replacing his anger. Charlie shakes her head as she holds Y/n's hands.

"No, I'm fine," she says. "Angel is kinda bruised up, though."

"They broke a tooth! See?!" Angel pointed at one of his teeth, which was once his golden tooth. "Fuckin' asshats..."

"Don't worry, guys. I'm gonna get us out of here," Y/n says. "I promise."

"What?" Charlie questions. "Y/n, I can't even break these ruins. How can you do it?"

Y/n immediately curses himself in his head for what he said. How could he say that? How can he play that off now?

"You need to tell her," Zarathos tells Y/n. "There can't be anymore lying or hiding."

Y/n looks at Charlie in the eyes and then looks around. He then sighs as he lets go of Charlie and sits down on the ground. He motions for her to join him, which she does with Angel.

"Y/n, is there something wrong?" she asks.

"I haven't been... completely honest with you, Char. Not at all lately," Y/n says. "And you deserve the truth. All of it. Remember that night after Riders' Edge?"

"What?" Charlie questions. "Y/n, this is the first time you're actually bringing it up. What's wrong?"

"... it's my fault you nearly got kidnapped again," Y/n sighs. "I wasn't strong enough. I never have been strong enough. I didn't want to be after I thought I died."

"Y/n, it wasn't your fault," the Demoness places a hand on her boyfriend's knee. "It was just bad luck that they came back."

"No such thing as luck. Only decisions and consequences," the biker states. "And I made a very bad decision that night."

"Like what?" Angel questions.

"Y/n, what decision did you make that wasn't to help?" Charlie asked. "And the only consequence that I saw was that you almost... died."

"... I did."

"What?"

"I did die," Y/n informs. "I was as dead as any other corpse you'll find."

"Y/n, that's crazy," Charlie stated. "No one has been brought back to life since the time of my Uncle Jesus."

Y/n ignores the part about Jesus being his girlfriend's uncle.

"What do you remember about that night?" he asks.

"You mean after I thought you were dead?" Charlie asked, and Y/n nodded. "I got angry and attacked those Demons. Killed them. And then... something came in and killed off the rest. Then you came back thanks to that good Samaritan you told us about."

"That reminds me," Angel said. "What was that guy's name?"

"Don't know," Y/n shrugged. "Never told me."

"All I care about is that he saved you, N/n," Charlie cupped her boyfriend's cheek. "I don't need to know his name."

Y/n stayed quiet as he looked down at the floor. He then sighed as he recalled that night. He had remembered everything finally, and now he had to tell Charlie and Angel.

"Yeah. That's not what happened. The man I told you about didn't save me," he shook his head. "The first part is like you said. The men, the chase, the shooting. But what I remembered most is feeling like I screwed up."

~Flashback~

"That because of me, you were going to get hurt again."

Back at the night of the Demon attack, Y/n is seen steering his bike down the street. He glances back at Charlie who was doing her best to help protect him from bullets.

"We both were."

~End of Flashback~

"Yeah, but we're okay," Charlie said. "We survived."

"Yeah... Now this is the part I never told you about," the Human states. "What I've been trying to hide from you."

~Flashback~

"That night I was flung from you, I was terrified."

In the air, Charlie was trying to reach out for Y/n and the biker does the same.

"I begged God... I begged the universe... I begged anyone who would listen that you'd be safe. I swore I'd give anything to save you."

However, the chains on Y/n's arms got snagged into the wheels of the motorcycle and brought him down to the ground faster than Charlie.

"Then I hit the street... and I died."

He hit the ground hard and rolled across it with his bike before they both slide to a stop.

"And there's nothing. It's just darkness. Then I heard your father's voice. He asked me if I wanted a second chance, did I want to punish those who hurt you, did I want to avenge my own death. I answered, "Yes. More than anything, yes."

Y/n suddenly gasped, full of life as his eyes darted around the street.

"And I was alive again. And you're right. There was someone who saved me, but it wasn't the man I told you about or a good Samaritan."

A man cladded in leather walks up to Y/n. He leans down over his and places a hand on his face.

"It was something else entirely."

Fire began to spread around Y/n's head, consuming his skin as he screamed in pain.

"That spirit that was inside him, he passed it on to me."

"AAAAAAAAAAGGGGHH!!!"

"RUUUOOOOAHHHHHHGHHH!!!!"

~End of Flashback~

Charlie couldn't believe what she was hearing. There was only one entity that she could describe that was like that.

"The Ghost Rider..."

Even saying his name sent chills down her spine.

"That was the deal I made to save you," Y/n continued. "I swore I would go after those who spilled innocent blood. And then I was reborn."

"You made a deal with my father..." Charlie couldn't believe what she was being told. "You killed all those people."

"No. No, that wasn't me," Y/n places a hand on his girlfriend's leg. "The spirit inside me... Zarathos. He craves vengenace. Those people got what they deserved."

"That's not you're call to make!" Charlie stood up angrily. "You can't decide whether or not people get to die!"

"I'm not the one calling the shots here!" Y/n defended himself as he stood up as well. "The other guy is! And believe me, he's not happy with being with me, either."

"Oh, young love! Lemme guess, first argument?"

Y/n turned to see Magnus standing nearby with Stalker and a few other armed Demon gangsters. The Human glared at them while Magnus only smiled.

"You..." the Human scowls.

"Sorry, I've been busy," the crime boss laughs. "Had to make a few calls. But I'm here now, and we can get right on to our business."

"I don't want any business with you," Y/n snarls. "We just want you dead!"

Y/n kicks the barrier in front of him, making it shimmer and ripple. But it doesn't break. Magnus only laughs.

"Y/n, what are you doing, pal?" Angel asks. "These are some crazy Demon ruins! You can't break these!"

"You're tall, feminine friend is right, Rider," Magnus says. "They're unbreakable!"

"And even if you find a way to break them," Stalker steps forward, "it won't be much longer until we get what we need from Princess Charlie."

Y/n glared at the small Imp. He didn't like that grin of his.

"I won't let you touch her!" he declares and punches the barrier.

"Y/n, stop!" Charlie orders her boyfriend.

"It's not helping!" Angel states. "Just stop, man!"

Y/n roared angrily as he slammed his body against the magic Demon barrier again. It did more than just ripple and shimmer this time.

"Please, you're scaring me!" Charlie announces.

"I'm not the one you need to be afraid of! It's the other guy!" Y/n declares as he slams into the barrier again, cracking it. "And he wants out!"

"Yes! Give me my freedom!" Zarathos screams.

Y/n roars as he continues assaulting the Demon ruin barrier. Magnus, Stalker, and the other Demons watch in awe.

"Will it hold?" Magnus asks Stalker.

"Held in some pretty powerful forces already," the Imp states. "I don't think even the Radio Demon could break out of it."

"Y/n, stop!" Charlie orders Y/n again.

However, he doesn't listen as he keeps bombarding the barrier with attacks. Steam and smoke begin to rise from his skin as his body heats up.

"What the fuck is happening?" Angel asks as he backs away with Charlie.

Y/n then yells out in pain as his skin burns away, turning his yell into a demonic scream. When the fire becomes controlled, all that is left is a flaming skull with two floating orange eyes in the eye sockets. Charlie and Angel look at the Ghost Rider in shock as he punches the barrier again. It cracks hard this time.

"What is he?" a Sinner asks. "Some kind of... Demon in disguise?"

"Ever heard of the Ghost Rider, partner?" Magnus asks the Demon.

"Not really, no," the gangster shakes his head.

"The Ghost Rider is a powerful being whose made a deal with the Devil," Magnus explains. "It's his personal bounty hunter."

"That's insane," another Demon says.

"You know, the rationalist in me wants to agree," Stalker takes a good look at the Rider, "but the flaming skull presents a really compelling argument for 'Hail Lucifer'."

The Ghost Rider slams his body into the barrier again. More and more cracks appear in it, and the Demons aim their guns at him.

"Stalker?" Magnus calls out. "We still good?"

"Yeah, yeah. Of course," Stalker nods. "The ruins are probably adapting to the force right n--"

With a sound like shattering glass, the barrier breaks and its shattered pieces vanish into light. The Ghost Rider looks at the now broken barrier and back at Charlie and Angel, and then at Magnus and Stalker. He glares at them.

"Oh, shit," Stalker says in terror.

"Shoot him down!" Magnus orders his men.

Some stay to aim their guns and fire, but most of the gangsters become too terrified to stay. They instead run away with Magnus calling out to them. The remaining gangsters open fire at the Rider, but they do nothing but annoy him as he approaches one. He grabs the Demon and snaps his neck.

Tossing that one aside, he goes to the next Demon who was trembling in fear. However, he brings his gun up to his head and shoots himself before the Rider could get to him.

"I don't know if that was smart," the Brimstone Biker turns to Magnus and Stalker, "or foolish."

"I got this," Magnus says as he readies his chains.

(ShallotStudioz: "He then proceeded to not got this.)

The Rider growls in anger this time as he approaches Magnus. The Sinner swings his chains at the scorched skeleton, but he simply dodged and landed a jab to the Demon's side. He gasps in pain but goes for a knee. The Spirit of Vengeance caught it and flipped Magnus onto his back. He grunts in pain and the Rider goes to pick him up, but a bullet to his skull catches him off-guard. He turns to Stalker who had his dual pistols raised.

"Go die, you flaming piece of--" he doesn't get another word out as the Rider kicks him away.

He slams into a wall with a sickening crack and crunch. He falls to the floor, limp and dead from the impact. The Rider only lets out what sounds like a distorted chuckle before diverting his attention to Magnus again.

"Magnus... you disappoint me," he says as he picks up the Sinner by his head. "Where's all that big talk from earlier?"

Magnus couldn't talk. He didn't know why or how, but he just couldn't. Was it fear keeping him quiet? Or something else?

"What was it you said about you and me? That we were the same, you and I? Well, you're wrong," the Rider says as his flames grow a big brighter. "I'm not the one with a stained soul."

"Oh, God..." Magnus said in terror as his eyes connect with the skeleton's.

"Magnus, your soul is stained by the blood of innocents. They cry out for vengeance," the Ghost Rider says. "Look into my eyes. Feel their pain... tenfold!"

Magnus begins to scream in agony as he remembers every terrible deed he's every done. From lying, to stealing, to cheating, to killing, he recalled it all. And it brought both mental and physical pain to him. It felt like his brain was melting and his entire body was on fire, but he wasn't being burnt to ashes. He was being subjected to a much worse fate.

When it was done, Magnus' eyes were nothing but brimstone and fire. With his work done, the Ghost Rider drops the Sinner to the floor, leaving him in a perpetual state of torment. He looks down at Magnus, scoffing at his body. How could someone like him get his hands on holy weapons?

"Y/n?"

The Rider turns to look at Charlie and Angel who stared at him in terror. He stared at them before the fire licking his bones extinguishes and his skin regrows. Y/n regains control as he walks up to his girlfriend.

"Charlie, are you alri--" Y/n walks up to his girlfriend.

He goes to hold her cheek in his hand, but the princess pulls away from his touch. Y/n looks at the daughter of Lucifer in shock as he lowers his hand. He then looks into her eyes, and sees the fear inside of them. He instantly felt guilty and ashamed for some reason.

"Can we just... go home, please?" she asks.

Y/n looks at her and then up at Angel. He, for the first time ever, didn't have anything to say. So Y/n sighs and looks back at Charlie.

"Yeah. Let's go home," Y/n nods. "But let me take care of these other Demons first."

Charlie hesitantly nods and Y/n turns to walk away. Fire began to consume his skin again as he transforms back into the Ghost Rider. The princess of Hell held onto Angel in fear as she flinched at the screams of pain and terror that soon followed. It made her want to cry.
_________________________________________

I understand that this chapter is kind of a letdown or kinda anticlimactic, but it wasn't supposed to be all action for this one. This finale for The Devil's Job was supposed to be more story and whatnot, with Y/n finally telling how he got Zarathos. Yes, it's basically Robbie Reyes' origin from Agents of SHIELD, but I just thought it was cool, so I used it. Also, the Penance Stare was finally introduced, so that's fun. And this chapter was also inspired by The Good Samaritan episode from Agents of SHIELD as well, so that's cool, I guess.

Hope you enjoyed! The next chapter may be kinda short since it's an follow-up/epilogue/wrap-up for this arc. Have a good night-day! Buh-bye!
