Chapter 65
Calum's PoV
I did it again. I'd put my walls up to stop myself from getting hurt. Poppy had asked me to come back to the hotel with her and normally I'd jump at the opportunity for some time alone with her, but this time I was scared. She'd had someone knock on the door whilst I was calling her, she'd changed her clothes, her makeup, she'd freshened herself up before she'd come to meet me. This could surely only mean one thing - she was cheating on me. How was I going to bring this up? How could I ask her about it without ending up fighting and her bringing up everything with Naomi? Questions spun round in my head but I never gave myself enough time to answer them. Before I knew it, I'd snapped at her and all the girls had decided to go back to the hotel, the four of us going to the bar alone.
"Pfft. Yeah nice one Cal." Ashton huffed as soon as the van door had shut. The men all watched their girlfriends leave and head into the hotel without a second glance.
"Yeah what the hell was that about?" Luke questioned as the van pulled off again, leaving the girls behind. I tried my best to ignore the question so I didn't have to answer. Well luke, I just think my fiancée is cheating on me but it's no big deal.
"Can't you see he doesn't want to talk about it?" Michael saved me once again, thank God for the fact they always managed to read me. My palms felt sweaty as we pulled up to the bar wondering what the girls would be doing whilst I was gone. Would Poppy speak to her secret lover? We headed in and to a VIP table at the back where we got our drinks brought to us along with some nachos. I shoved a couple of nachos in my mouth before I grabbed my beer, chugging half of it in one go as the guys watched on, half in shock half in excitement.
"Oh so this is how the night is going to go?" Ashton laughed as we all clinked our bottles together. "To the band, our tour and the lovely women we have to support us."
"Except Calum." Michael said with a hint of humour. My eyes widened at him, was I really being that obvious?
"What are you talking about?" Luke quizzed jut Michael just pointed over at me.
"It was a guess but by that reaction I must have hit the nail on the head!" Michael laughed. "What's up with you and Poppy? I thought everything was good in Hood's world?" I scoffed at the fact he was making a joke out of my misfortune and as I went to open my mouth to respond, suddenly all four of our phones buzzed at the same time. That could never be a good thing. As we all looked at each other, fear growing in our eyes, we yanked our phones out and opened the messages.
Poppy: Look I don't know what's made you mad but I think we need to talk. Come to our hotel room as soon as possible.
The other men were looking over at me too, their phone screens seemingly saying that they needed to let me go for this talk with Poppy. Oh God. She was officially going to do it. We were about to have that chat. The one where she'd say we aren't working well or that she's realised she can't bring up a kid with me when I'm touring all the time or... I don't know. But it looks like I'm going to have to face the music.
"Sorry man, you're on your own for this one." Ashton shrugged as he sipped his beer. "Fill us in later." I turned and headed for the exit, ready to make my way back to the hotel.
"Good luck!" Michael called, suddenly causing my chest to tighten. This could end up being the worst day of my life.

I hesitated outside the room for a while, my heart beating heavily in my throat as I tried desperately to swallow the sick feeling that wouldn't budge. Knowing I had to deal with this at some point or another, I sucked in a big breath and bravely knocked on the door. The quick footsteps towards the door only caused me to panic more and as the handle twisted, I began to hyperventilate. As soon as Poppy opened the door, she noticed the state I was in and the gleaming smile she did have fell instantly.
"Cal?" She was beside me in an instant, hugging me and soothing me. She was trying to calm me down. "What's happened? Was it my message? I didn't mean for it to sound so ominous." Her mere touch against my skin made me calmer but the nagging voice in the back of my mind was noting that she'd changed for a third time, now in a more fitted black dress which hugged her curves and made her look amazing. But who was she trying to look good for?
"Whatever is going on we can work through it. I just don't want to lose you." I breathed out, my voice sounding pathetic in comparison to how it sounded in my head.
"Lose me? What?" Poppy's eyebrows had furrowed before she let out a small laugh. "Cal, I'm definitely not going anywhere. I called you back so that you could see this." She led me to the door and pushed it open revealing our hotel room decorated from floor to ceiling with balloons, candles, rose petals and chocolates. I let out a sigh of relief. "I did all this before I headed to the amusement park earlier. The knock on the door was the staff member giving me my balloons and the menus for this..." she pulled me into the room and revealed a trolley full of snacks of all different varieties and a bowl of chocolate covered strawberries. I couldn't believe it. She'd gone through all this effort, making the room so beautifully romantic and I was running myself down thinking she was cheating on me. If this was anything, it was the proof I so desperately wanted that Poppy was definitely mine forever, she wanted to stay with me.
"Poppy..." I trailed off as I looked into her eyes, feeling like the world was nonexistent around us. "I'm so sorry for snapping. I was putting my walls up thinking that you were..." I cut myself off, noticing her eyebrows beginning to furrow. "It doesn't matter. Thank you so much for this. It's amazing. The best thing anyone has done for me!" I pulled her into a massive hug, feeling elated as I took in the room once more. This was definitely something I'd remember for as long as I lived.
"I love you Calum." She said softly.
"I love you Poppy. Forever and always."
