Prologue

Zachary North

I took my phone that sits atop my desk and dialled my sister's number angrily. It's been an hour or so since I called her to come here in the office to sign the three documents that I will be bringing for my meeting tomorrow.

As I heard the ringing on the line, I looked at the clock for the nth time and saw that it's already 11:30 in the evening, meaning, I've been waiting for her not only for an hour but for three freaking hours now.

This just made my blood boil even more.

I sighed when I got connected to her voicemail. I buried my head on both of my palms and groaned while mumbling, "You will pay for this, Olivia! You know I hate waiting so much."

Ugh, Olivia, I know she's doing this just to irk me because ever since dad forced her to work here and to marry my friend Niccolo Knights, she's being 10 times difficult to handle these days.

Good thing her friends, Erin and Jowee, were there to put her in the right track.

In order to calm myself, I took a series of deep breaths so I can return to the pile of work in front of me.

Just as I was going to reply to the email that was displayed in front of me, my door opened and I saw my sister's head popped in. I glared at her but she was unfazed by it.

She was grinning when she entered as if mocking me as well as telling me that she didn't care about me waiting for her.

"What took you so long? I called you two hours ago and you just ca---" I stopped talking when I saw someone her entered my office.

My breath got knocked out when Erin came into my view. She's dressed in a little black dress that's exposing her long slender legs, the dress hugged her body beautifully and sexily. Her face was not  heavily covered by makeup, just enough to enhance her enchanting beauty.

If only I have a way with her, I will definitely do her. But she's my sister's best friend, there's an unspoken rule to not date your sibling's friend. They're always off-limits.

I cleared my throat when I remembered that fucking norm.

"What are you doing here?" I asked aloud directing my question to Erin. I saw her fidgeting, and she looked at me before she answered.

"Olivia forced us to come up here." She said not breaking eye contact with me though I can see clearly discomfort in them.

Why? Am I making her uncomfortable? If so, how?

"Uhm, I am here also, Zac." I heard Jowee's voice and I quickly looked at her who's eyes were full of mischiefs.

To acknowledge her, I nodded and gave her a tight lipped smile. As I returned my gaze to the beautiful view, I saw my sister blocking Erin while stalking towards me.

"Now, where are the documents you wanted me to sign?" Olivia asked in irritation as she stood in front of me.

I put the three folders in front of her.

"Here. Sign these three and you may go now." I answered her nonchalantly and looked at my laptop screen.

"Seriously Zac, you delayed our night for these three documents? You could've asked either Terry or Jones to deliver these to my apartment. Saves time for the both of us." My sister as always, complained and whined, I bet she rolled her eyes while telling those words to me. The woman sure always rolls her eyes, it actually wo't surprise me if one day, her eyes got stuck because of her habit of eye rolling.

As per her suggestion, I did think of calling Jones, Olivia's driver, to hand these documents to her for her to sign but as her boss as well as teacher --- Dad assigned me to train her as she is still new here in the company. It's just right that I treat her as my subordinate like how I normally treat them.

No exceptions even if she is now the head of the textile division. Oh, and I want to annoy her also, I missed doing it to her though.

I heard my sister cleared her throat, I looked at her and she was waiting for my response so I sighed.

"Well, I had a lot of things to do so I didn't think of that. So, which club?" I asked as I resumed typing.

"None of your business. Now, we have to go, and YOU need to go home." She pointed her index finger at me and they went out of my office.

I smiled when Olivia reminded me that I needed to go home. Ah, my sister, she is my and dad's most treasured jewel. She is the North Princess, even though that she annoys me because of her childish acts, I still love her so much that's why when I knew that Dad arranged her to Niccolo, I immediately went to him and beat the shit out of him for agreeing.

I didn't care if he was my friend, my sister's more important than my friendship to him. Regardless of Dad's reason, I was hellbent when I knew that he agreed.

I know that Niccolo will not treat my sister badly because knowing him, he is a good guy and a gentleman. Thus, I actually worry about him, if he can put up to my sister's whims.

No, no, no, don't get me wrong, my sister is not the typical spoiled arrogant and bitch of an heiress. She may be look like one but she's a whole lot of opposite when you get to know her. It's just that, you have to have patience with her, she don't open herself to just anyone.

Once she does, you will see how different she is. A kind of woman who needs someone to take care of her just like what Erin and Jowee do to her. They put her to the right dirdction and makes her sane especially when fake articles about her being a bitch was out. I just hope that Niccolo will be able to take care, protect, and love my sister even though he was forced to marry her by my dad.

I am happy that my sister has Erin and Jowee as her best friend. As I have mentioned, they put her in to her place, they take care of her, they support her, and most importantly, they love her.

That's why even though I have hots with Erin, I never went for her as she is off-limits and I didn't want to be the cause of their friendship over. So for years, I contained and controlled my desire towards her.

I never told anyone about my feelings towards her except my two best friends, Neil Pattel and Skylar Harris. They knew about my secret feelings since that night. I accidentally spilled the beans to them because I panicked and didn't know what to do.

I jumped a little when my phone went off. I looked at it and saw the woman I just been thinking about. I slightly furrowed my brows as to why she's calling me because this is the first time.

I hope something's not wrong.

"Hello, Erin?" I answered.

"Zac, please help, Olivia's heavily intoxicated, I made her vomit already though. But she still wants to drink more. Jowee's distracting her now but she's so stubborn, she keeps on shouting that she's not drunk or whatever. Please, come here." She rambled but I didn't fail to notice the slur in her voice. She's drunk.

"Which club?" I asked as I took a deep breath and took my car keys. My God, Olivia, what the fuck are you doing? I mentally shouted at my sister whom I currently picturing laying down on the floor drunk.

"Pub Lo." Erin answered.

"Erin, just stay there, don't agree to anyone who offers you three to be taken home. Wait for me, I will be the only one to fetch you three, understand? Stay close with each other and... please take care of my sister." I ordered as I stepped inside the lift and pressed the parking lot button.

Olivia, if this is your way of rebelling because of your arranged marriage with Niccolo, then stop it. Nothing you can do to change Dad's decision. I said mentally and groaned.

I parked my Range Rover outside the pub and went immediately inside. I didn't have to stand in line to get in because they already know me. I mean, almost everyone knows me, because I am the Zachary North of The North Group of Companies. One of the muti-billion dollar group of companies in the world. Also, this club was owned by Neil, one of my best friends.

As I entered the pub, I immediately saw Erin, tending both Jowee and Olivia. The two girls were hugging each other in their sleep while Erin's trying to stay awake and sober as she's waiting for me.

I didn't waste another second so I went to her immediately. I stood in front of her and she looked up at me. Her eyes widened when she saw me and relief washed her worry-filled eyes.

"Zachary." She stood up but since she's drunk, she wobbled and placed her arm around my neck to steady herself.

I gasped secretly because of our proximity, I was about to snaked my arm around her waist when she removed her arm from me and smiled.

"Thank God, you came. I'm sorry to bother you." She said as she clung the three clutches on her then wake Jowee up.

"Of course, you asked me to." I mumbled and started to shook my sister up.

"It won't work, we've tried it countless of times now but all she said was to don't fucking disturb her slumber." Jowee slurred and stood up while Erin's trying to assist her in spite of them being drunk.

I sighed and carried my sister like a sac of potato while holding both Erin and Jowee's hand. This is to ensure that none of them passed out.

Ugh, dear God, why did I became a babysitter tonight? I sighed and shook my head. Few more steps and I will be out of this room full of sweaty drunken people.

As I neared my car and as if it's not hard enough to walk while assisting three drunk girls, my ever so good sister shouted making me halt and immediately put her on the ground.

"I want to puke! I want to puke!" I put her down and she immediately empty her stomach.

I held her hair to avoid ot to be contaminated by the gross liquid she's throwing up. When I was sure that she's done, I took my hanky from my pocket and gave it to her for her to wipe her face.

I heard giggles beside me and I saw Erin and Jowee looking at Olivia.

"What if she hadn't told you that she wanted to puke? All of that will be onto you, Zac." Jowee pointed at the gross puddle at the sidewalk made by my sister.

I sighed and shook my head.

"Get in the car, I'll drive you three home." I said to nobody as Olivia linked her arm to mine and rested her head on my arm.

"It's fine, Zac, I brought my car. You take Livy home while I'll drive Jowee to my apartment." Erin said and I looked at her in disbelief.

Are you fucking kidding me? As if I will let her drive under the influence. No can do.

"No. Get in the car." I said sternly and she sighed.

"But what about my car?" She countered and I rolled my eyes.

"I'll call someone to pick it up, now get inside my car." I answered as I put my sister at the back and buckled her seatbelt.

"We'll just take an uber home, Zac." Erin stated again. I ran my hand on my face because it's starting to get me agitated.

"I said get inside, Erin." I opened the passenger door and she hesitantly took a step towards the car. I raised my brows when she looked at me and I pointed my head to my car for her to get in.

She gave Jowee to me to assist as she went inside. I closed the door and rounded the car, I put Jowee beside Olivia and buckled her seatbelt then I went in to start driving.

I took Olivia to her apartment first then Jowee as her apartment is near to my sister's which made Erin as the last stop.

I was driving when Erin spoke all of a sudden.

"I want cheeseburger."

I looked at her and she was looking at the 24/7 diner outside her window.

"You want?" I asked and she looked at me happily then nodded excitedly.

"Okay." I agreed and made a u-turn to go back to the diner.

"We can order through drive thru, I really don't want to go inside wearing this short dress, at this hour, there's a lot of pervs out there." She mumbled and rested her head on the head rest.

I smiled at her realization. Among the three of them, Erin is the wisest, she uses logic and reason before she do anything in impulse. She analyzes everything.

As we rounded to get our order, she spoke again.

"You haven't had dinner, have you?" She asked.

"I haven't" I answered her and chuckled while thanking the crew for handing us our orders.

"That's what I thought." She mumbled and took a fries and popped it in her mouth.

"I don't get you, you know. You made your work as your life. You don't take rests, you don't go home early, you compromise your meals over work, and you work on weekends. Are you not tired with that?" She asked in annoyance.

"You made it sound so lonely." I chuckled and took a bite on my burger.

"It is. And now, you're slowly doing it to Livy." She commented and I looked at her. Now she's glaring at me.

What did I do?

"She has to learn everything, Erin." I explained and put down my burger on the armrest.

"I know, but you're forcing her. You're sister's intelligent, she knows how to do the job done. You don't have to force it to her, she's under a lot of stress now, mentally and physically because of her marrying Niccolo. I understand that she needs to learn but please understand her place also." Erin explained and I sighed.

I know that my sister's under a lot of stress now, but she needs to understand that I am helping her, helping her to divert her attention, by giving her a lot of work. Because it works for me, it distracts me from everything.

I didn't say anything and started my car then drove. After 10 minutes, we arrived at Erin's apartment building. I looked at her and she has closed her eyes. I bet she's really drunk because never had she talked to me that long.

She always smile and greet me with one liner phrases. Never did she have a conversation with me because I know for a fact that she had a crush on me. But when that night happened, everything changed between us, it's as if she didn't want to be associated or acquainted with me.

I felt that even though we haven't had any interaction more than Hellos, His, and Goodbyes.

Her eyes opened lazily then looked at me. I cleared my throat for being caught staring at her.

"We're here." I said and got out of my car to assist her. She wobbled when she stepped out and I immediately caught her by her waist.

"The ground is shaking. I think there's an earthquake, Zachary." She hiccuped and chuckled.

My insides were turned upside down when she called me by my name. It sounded so good, what more if she screamed it while I give her pleasure.

What the actual fuck! I did not just think of that, did I? Shame on me for thinking about that while Erin's beside me. But what can I do? Ever since that night, I really couldn't let her get out of my brain. All I can think of was her until now.

Majority of my hookups were mostly me thinking of her and getting a boner, not because I was attracted to those women. This may sound a little cheesy but ever since I laid my eyes upon her at the manor, I have never seen a woman as attractive and beautiful as her.

I was pulled put my reverie when the elevator dinged, signalling us that we arrived at her floor. I assisted her towards her unit and as she opened her door, she turned around to face me.

"Thank you Zac, for the cheeseburger and for driving me home." She thanked me and I smiled.

"You're welcome." I replied.

"Drive safe. And please, take care of yourself, have fun and don't skip meals." She said and was about to close the door but I gripped the door open. She looked at me questioningly and I did what I've been wishing to do after that night.

I kissed her. Just a peck though, but I let my lips lingered on hers for a second then I took a step back away from her.

"Good night, Erin." I said and walked towards the lift.
