Chapter 8
Erin McAfee
As we arrived at the Carlton Hotel, Alexander walked me to the restaurant where he booked us a table for tonight.
I admit, he was a gentleman and I kinda enjoy his humors. At first I thought that he's one of those guys that was so full of himself but turned out otherwise.
He doesn't talk about his work or being the heir of Vice heir. He would focus the topic about me and that he seems that he's really interested about my work. Of course I would ask a thing or two about him and that I knew that he's a pilot. I mean of course, he's the son of the owner of the country's biggest airline so what did I expect.
"Erin, I'm really really thankful that you gave me a chance tonight." He said after he took a sip of his wine.
I chuckled.
"How can I not? You were so annoying." I said and shook my head.
"I know and I'm sorry, that was the only way I can think of to make you agree tonight. I'm really sorry though." He apologized and I saw the sincerity in his eyes so I smiled.
"Just don't do it again." I answered sternly and he chuckled.
"I hope after this you would grant me another dinner?" He said in a hopeful tone but I just smiled and resumed eating.
Honestly, I was torn. I wanted to give him another chance because of his behaviour tonight but half of my mind detests it because what if he's only acting? Anyway, let's just go with the flow tonight, afterall it's the night is still young.
After we had dinner, he asked me to have coffee with him at a coffee shop that was located at a rooftop of a building. He said that he frequent there whenever he wanted to be alone and to think some stuff.
Of course I agreed, I heard that coffee shop from one of my colleagues and I have been wanting to try it out but I had no time to go there so, I think this is a great opportunity to try it out, right?
As we entered the coffee shop located at the penthouse of the building, a whiff of fresh coffee beans greeted me and it instantly made me smile and relaxed me.
We sat at the far end corner of the room which you can sight the sea of lights of New York City. It gives you tranquility and serenity, this is why Olivia likes her spot in her apartment, it gives her those feelings.
"What do you want to order?" Alex asked me after he gave me the menu.
"What do you recommend?" I asked and placed the menu atop the table.
"I recommend their Latté Macchiato. It's not so strong wherein you couldn't sleep the night. It has a balance of strong and sweet flavor, just like you."
I rolled my eyes at him and smiled a little.
"Whatever." I said and he called a wait staff to take our orders.
A woman in late twenties emerged and smiled at us.
"Hello, Alex. It's been a long time since you came here." She said in a friendly manner and I unconsciously raised my brows for I was confused as to how she knew him.
"Hey, Alexa, I've been busy for a while. Anyway, this is Erin, my friend, and Erin, this is Alexa, the daughter of the owner." Alex introduced us and I smiled at her.
"Hello, Erin, nice to meet you. So, are you two are ready to order?" She asked and Alex told her pur orders. Once she listed it, she went to the counter to make our orders.
"You knew the owner?" I asked
"Yup. He's actually my dad's friend." He said and I nodded.
"That's why you're very familiar with the place." I commented and he chuckled nervously.
"I'm so sorry though, for not telling you." He apologized again.
"It's fine, I actually wanted to come here, you know. I've been hearing about this coffee shop from my colleagues and I've been wanting to try it out for quite sometime now but work got in the way so I've never tried it out since tonight. So, thank you, Alexander." I smiled genuinely at him.
"Erin, you can call me Alex, if you want." He suggested and I nodded.
"Sure, Alex." I agreed and our orders arrived.
We talked a lot after that, we talked about the ON couple, Olivia and Niccolo, his work as a pilot, me being a writer and how I enjoyed being one, and our highschool life.
In our chat, I learned that he's 7 years older than me, just like Zac. In his early teenage years, he started to join their company, just like Zac. However, he never really liked to manage Vice Air, all he wanted to be was a pilot. He enjoyed flying planes, helicopters, and what not, but managing a company isn't what he wanted. Unfortunately, he was the only son of his parents so whether he liked it or not, he will have to manage it.
He's far from Zac though, when he was 15 years old he joined the NGC, he was the one who asked Anthony to join their company even if he was still young. Olivia said that he was so excited when their dad agreed. By the age of 18, he had closed one of the biggest deals and that the sales of NGC skyrocketed which earned him the trust and praise of their shareholders as well as the whole business community.
He was so hardworking, driven, and passionate. He worked until he didn't have to introduce himself to anyone. And with that, almost everyone worshipped him, especially women. They would literally fight one another just to have one night with him or to make him fall with them. I mean who wouldn't, right? He's a walking dollar and not to mention a smoking hot man, who wouldn't want to be his woman, right?
"Erin? Erin?" I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard Alex calling my name.
"I'm so sorry, Alex, I zoned out." I apologized quickly but he just chuckled.
"It's okay, who wouldn't got bored about the structure of a plane, right." He said in a boyish tone and I apologized again.
Geez, Erin, get it together girl. Why were thinking about Zac when you're having a date with another guy. Give respect to the dude, girl.
My subconscious scolded me and I sipped my Latté in shame.
Since then, I gave my undivided attention to Alex.
At around 10 in the evening, we arrived at my apartment. He insisted to walk me up to my unit and I agreed.
"Thank you, for tonight Alex. I had a great time." Which was true, I really had a great time. He was not the person I perceived him to be.
I opened my door but before I can enter my pad, he called me.
"Uhhmm, Erin?" I turned around to look at him and his lips collided in mine. I immediately pushed him away from me and slapped his face.
He was startled and immediately apologised.
"Im so sorry. I was swayed by my---"
"No and I don't care! I'm taking back what I said. Don't bother me anymore, Alexander! This is the last time I will go out with you! Get away from me!" I said angrily and quickly went inside my apartment and locked the door.
How dare he kissed me without my permission. I thought he was different because of how he acted tonight but it was just an act. Bastard! This is why I don't date a guy like him.
He tried to knock on my door but I ignored him. You piece of shit, knock as long as you want. I will never, ever, open my door to you again.
***
A week gone by since that incident with Alex happened. He called and texted me but I blocked him before I sent him a message to not come here in my apartment anymore or else I will get a restraining order to him.
Just like before, he sent me everyday annoying flowers. I told my secretary Chloe that everytime a bouquet of flowers or any stuff was sent to me by Alexander Vice, she has to intercept it and throw it immediately outside. I didn't want to get notified about any of it or she will get an earful of words from me.
"Please help me?" Olivia pleaded to us and grabbed my hand.
Tonight, Jowee and Olivia were at my apartment to spend the night. Also, Olivia's telling us how she was treated in Nick's childhood home.
"Okay fine, we'll support you but of oldie demanded more from you and you heeded, Jowee and I will slap you in the face until no one can recognize you, entiendes?" I said seriously without any hint of playfulness or whatsoever.
"Si, mi amiga. Gracias." She smiled and hugged me then reached out to Jowee so she can join us in the hug.
After a while, my doorbell went off.
Both of them looked at me and Jowee asked me.
"E, are you expecting someone?" She asked while walking towards the video intercom.
"Oh it's Alex!" She said cheerfully and I grunted.
"What is he doing here?" Olivia asked.
"I don't know. Oh my God. Jowee don't you dare open the... Fuck it." Too late, she just invited the moron inside. He was actually surprised to see both of my friends in my apartment.
"Hello, Alex." Olivia went to him and hugged him. By doing so, he transferred the roses he's holding so it won't get squished by my friend.
"Good evening, ladies. I didn't know you're having girls' night tonight." I can hear uneasiness and uncomfortably in his voice.
"It's fine, is that for Erin? Take a sit, Alex." He took a sit beside me on the couch and I scooted away from him.
Up to this point, my friends still didn't know what happened between the two of us. I didn't tell them because what was the point, right? It's not important also.
"Hi Erin, this is for you." He handed me the bouquet. Instead of taking the flowers, I asked him straight to the point.
"Waht are you doing here? Didn't I make it clear to you that I don't want to see you anymore?!" I said in irritation and scooted further away from him.
"I'm here to apologize what happened last time. I swear I didn't mean to do it, I was just swayed by my emotions so I kissed you. I swear it won't happen again, just please give me another chance. I promise I will keep my hands to myself, you can file for sexual harassment, if you want." He pleaded and placed the roses on the coffee table.
Then I felt the couch dipped beside me and heard Jowee spoke in a mixture of shock and irritation.
"Oh my God. You managed to have a date with her? AND. YOU. KISSED. HER. Oh my, Alexander Vice you ruined your only chance. Dude you're fucked up." She was now sitting in between me and Alex and being the drama queen she is, she was hyperventilating.
"That's why I'm sorry. Please Erin, forgive me." Alex tried to apologized again even though he was being blocked by Jowee.
"Just go home for now, Alex. Let her think." Olivia stood up to walk him to the door and thankfully, he heeded and before he walk towards the door, he apologized again.
"I'm so sorry Erin. I really do." And with that, he and Olivia walked towards my foyer.
"Are you alright?" Jowee asked and I rolled my eyes before I nodded.
"Just another scumbag." I commented
"Yup." She agreed and took the roses to the kitchen to place it in a vase.
After Jowee placed the roses into a vase, she emerged from the kitchen with a bowl of popcorn in her hand.
"Erin, let's watch a movie in your room." Jowee suggested and Olivia second the motioned.
"But not until you tell us what happened and how did he managed you to say yes." Olivia added and I heaved a sigh.
"Does it really matter?" I asked.
"It does, my love. Now talk!" Olivia ordered and I started from the top.
