Chapter 8- Paint me a Picture
After buying the camera and some bleach, Eve and Aaron continued down the road to the shack. They both stopped and looked around to make sure Max wasn't in the area. Then they proceeded through the door. It looked about the same as they had left it, but there was a new canvas covered with a black tarp.
"Oh I also brought this," Aaron pulled a flashlight out of his jacket. Eve took it from his hands and switched it on. They stared at it for a couple of seconds, "I guess I'll do the honors." Aaron pulled the tarp back.
It was another portrait, but this time it wasn't Casper. Bailee's round face appeared before them. Except she was a lot smaller. She seemed disgusted, like her mom forced her to eat some nasty vegetable.
"That's the one huntress I told you about. I wonder what these paintings are all about."
Aaron picked the canvas up, "I think she's gonna puke."
"Like when my mom made me drink a salad smoothie, yuck. Huh, I think Max is having some visions. Maybe Miss Phoenix didn't erase him completely."
"I have no clue what you are talking about."
"Well my brother was going to be going through the same process. There's no reason for this to happen to Max though. I have so many questions."
"You'll figure somethings out eventually. In the meantime, I am going to snap a photo of this. Stand back please." Aaron lifted up the camera and snapped a photo.
He set the grocery bag on a table with a surplus amount of paint on it. He pulled out the bleach before Eve. "How about we spend the rest of the night working on your new look?"
"Are you kidding? What if Max comes?"
Aaron smirked, "He isn't. Tomorrow is exams, and if you don't know already, Blond boy is a nerd."
Eve gave him a nod of approval. "So its a slumber party?"
"Ouch my manhood. Couldn't you have said sleep over?" They both laughed. Aaron placed the tarp on the floor and pointed at the ground. Eve sat crossed legged on the tarp.
She shifted slightly, "Permission to intrude on your back story?"
Aaron started opening the bleach box. "What do I look like to you? Some story book character?"
"The Base's have been training with partners for years, and there has never been a problem Miss Mara. Please reconsider this decision," Amber begged.
Mara smiled, "I know that, but one should not rely on someone else when working. Plus by using this method of training you should be able to work with anyone. There's a ton of pros rather than cons to my decisions."
"You- You can't do that!" Raven yelled.
"You are right. I can't, but the board sure can. Things are changing little ones. I'm afraid that the weak won't last much longer." Mara stood up.
"What is that-" Raven tried to say before Mara walked out the room. "The nerve of some people. Partners isn't just a tactic! Its tradition! Bailee was right! Amber aren't you upset?"
Amber stared blankly towards Mara's desk, "Look."
Raven turned to her head. Mara's desk top was Bailee's file. "Why is she on Bailee's file."
Amber got up. She turned the computer to her and started typing. "That's not all. She's also on her official school email."
"Wait Amber scroll down." Raven took the computer out of her hands. "This email was ten minutes ago..."
Amber read it aloud, "Dear Board Directors," They gasped, "I would like to resign from the Hunter's League."
Raven gritted her teeth, "She didn't just-"
"What does she have against Bailee?"
"Poetry?" Eve laughed.
"Stop laughing! Misses 'Imma go sleep in this dark hole oh look issa necklace' like come on."
Eve snorted, "Okay okay. How did you learn this passion of yours Dr. Seuss."
"I'm offended," He finished wrapping the last piece of seaweed around Eve's hair. They forgot to buy tinfoil and settled with Eve's powers of nature. "Well I've been a foster kid for my entire life. I started when one of my foster parents took me to some slam poetry place. I loved it there! Too bad most things never last for me."
Eve hugged her necklace, "It would be refreshing to hear a poem that wouldn't curse me."
"Well its very refreshing to have some type of friend."
"You don't have any friends?"
Aaron gave Eve a sheepish smile, "Most kids think I'm annoying. They say I'm too clingy."
"I mean I didn't have much friends at my old school anyways. That's only because I didn't like being around people. I'd get bullied a lot too. What about those kids with you at the gas station?"
"They only hang out with me because I give them cigarettes, but you like to talk about stuff."
"Sometimes I think that strangers are better to talk to then your family you know. I would know, my family is messed up."
"At least you have one," they both laughed the depressing topic away.
"Should we wash out the bleach?"
"Give it more time. Also the bleach probably won't be completely blonde, but rather are caramel kind of color."
"Well that doesn't help me at all, but it does sound neat."
Aaron rolled his eyes, "Just give me some water rain cloud."
Eve formed a water bubble and put it on her head. She twisted her wrist so that the water would move like a washer. She then turned it into a gusts of hot wind.
"You're like a salon in one."
"Shut up human."
"Human? You're a human too, just cursed with powers that every human would love to have," Aaron picked up the digital camera.
"You can have the necklace if you want, but I warn you the results are 'shocking'. I'd be careful." Eve laughed and there was a click.
"Oh look at you."
"Delete that please." Eve reached over him. His long arms stretched out with the camera.
"No sorry. I have to have pictures just in case I forget what you look like."
"Aaron please?"
"Oh whatever I'm too tired to argue with you. Goodnight."
"Wait, what? We're sleeping here?"
"Where else?"
"It's just I don't feel right here. I can't sleep in this room." Eve pleaded. Aaron adjusted himself against the wall. He started to snore in the matter of minutes. Eve was alone with her thoughts and nightmares.
