"Babe."

Pregnancy. I couldn't come to terms with the fact that I was pregnant. The idea was crazy and outrageous. I had a baby inside of me, growing. I took a stealth look at my stomach and sighed with relief at my still flat stomach.

A baby. A human being. A whole human I would be bringing forth to life. I was certainly not ready to be a mother especially at age sixteen.

It was just one time. Few minutes. And, boom! A baby! A freaking baby was growing inside of me. If anyone had told me at the beginning of the term I would be in this predicament, I would have laughed so hard, labelling such person a liar.

The devastating news made me lose the race. I lost in every activity I took part in for the Interhouse Sports. Green house won despite me losing. Blue came second and Yellow third.

Having to pretended everything was fine hurt. Throughout the weekend, I had to fake the laughs and smiles while going through the shock of being pregnant. I couldn't risk anyone knowing what was up with me.

There could be a way this pregnancy could be transfered, either through some scientific or technological shit. I didn't even mind sending the pregnancy to someone who wanted it through Xender, Flashshare or even Bluetooth. I just couldn't have the baby, I would almost die of shame.

"Babe?" The waving of a hand made me snap out of my reverie. Daniel's forehead was wrinkled, his eyes watching me with scrutiny.

I faked a small smile, "I love Rottweilers too." We had been speaking about animals and somewhere in between I got lost in thoughts. His words just went into and out of my ears immediately, not registering them.

He gave me a stare, one to show he knew I was lying. It was obvious I zoned out of the conversation and my lie didn't do justice in convincing him.

I sucked in my lower lip, licking the dryness away then scrunched my nose, trying  to push my glasses up.

"What?" I raised an eyebrow, my hand leaving his. My fingers entwined on my lap as I played with the hem of my dark blue pleated skirt.

"Were you even listening to me?" He pressed his lips together, his elbows moving to my desk with concerned eyes peering at me. "What's up with you?"

I bit my lower lip after sighing. "It's nothing, Daniel."

His hand moved to my hands on my lap entwining our fingers together. "What's wrong? You've been distant lately. Or did I do something wrong?"

My eyes travelled from my plastic desk locker to the sparkling white board in front of the class and finally to the back of Rita's head. Her long hair was styled in Suku.

"Not at all. There's just a lot going on at home, at school and with me." Tears brimmed my eyes. Clasping them shut, I let out a shaky breath before opening my eyes.

"You can tell me," he gave my hand a slight squeeze. His brown orbs stared directly at mine and at that moment it was us and no one else, not even our noisy classmates.

A part of me wanted to tell him. It was his baby after all and he was responsible for us, the baby and I. "I am..." I mustered a big smile cutting myself short. "It's actually nothing, Daniel. Trust me."

His head dipped with a small smile, squeezing my hand.  "Your body tells otherwise though."

My brows furrowed. "I don't get you?"

"I mean you've added weight while you're growing distant. You're now fat o!"

My jaw dropped, my hand leaving his at the same time.

Was I fat? Sure I was eating a lot lately but that didn't mean I was fat. I wasn't fat! I looked down to gaze at my laps, they weren't that big. I had wide hips so that explained the huge laps. Although I had added little weight but  I wasn't fat. I was chubby that was a better term.

"Or do you plan on replacing me with food?" A grin was plastered on his face, his pearly whites in view same as his dimples.

Jolting up from the chair, I took a deep breath trying to subdue my anger but I wasn't able to. For some reason I couldn't, the anger was beyond me."Are you insane?!"

He pulled a confused frown, feigning ignorance to what he said.

Heads snapped in our direction, watching with interest what was about to go down also trying to grasp the reason for our sudden argument.

"How can you say I'm fat? Me fat?" I pointed at myself.

"You're angry?" He whispered still sitting on the chair, an eyebrow raised.

"Of course not, on the contrary, I'm dancing with joy." I replied sarcastically waving my hands dramatically in the air then hissed, glaring at him.

"What did I do wrong?" A puzzled look graced his face. "Are you angry 'cause I said you're fat?"

"Ogbeni, are you not fat ni?" A voice said.

I turned to Pauline who was sitting in the midst of her friends. A dirty scowl resting on her face while the other girls; Issy, Seun and Uzo had smug grins on their faces.

"Who put your mouth here? Brainless broomstick." I shot a glare at her. Her mouth hung open while the rest of the class giggled.

A hand pulled me to sit, reluctantly I did. I was ready to drag anyone who came at me.

"Calm down, Tobi!" Anna said, crouching next to me. Her hand moved to my lap, rubbing it despite the huffs coming from me and the scowl on my face.

"She started it na. That idiot Pauline!" I hissed, glaring at Pauline who was muttering some inaudible words, a frown resting on her face.

"What crawled up your ass?" Zara joined us, crouching on my other side.

With a glare, I responded, "your brain." Everyone had chosen to be annoying today and it irritated me more than ever.

"Breath." An authoritative voice instructed. At my reluctance the voice came again."breath."

"In," Daniel instructed and I did as he ordered. "Out." I compiled. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply then exhaled once more before opening my eyes. A few more times I repeated the action till I felt relieved of my anger.

"Are you alright now?"

I nodded, slouching into the plastic chair.

"Are you sure?"

I nodded once more, embarrassed about the scene I caused.

"Tobi, are you sure you're alright now?"

"Zara, I said I'm fine!" I assured her for the third time. She squeezed my hand a bit before she and Anna left us.

Daniel was quiet, he was staring at the white board his legs shaking slightly. The wrinkles on his forehead gave away he was thinking about something.

I wanted to know his thoughts. If he was angry or upset about the scene I caused. No doubt, he was angry. I was also mentally beating myself up for causing such scene and embarrassing us.

"I'm sorry."

"For?"

"Overreacting." I answered, nibbling on my lower lip.

He scoffed. "There's no need for that, is there?" He pointed at no one in particular. Our classmates were most likely speaking about us and the scene I caused.

My village people were really getting better at attacking me. My ancestors should better not sleep!

"I said I'm sorry."

He turned to look at me. "And I said there is no need for the apology." He replied through gritted teeth.

"Daniel, I'm sorry."

He crossed his arms still staring at the board. His frown was still prominent on his face

I touched his shoulder slightly but he shrugged my hand off. "I'm sorry na."

"Daniel I'm sorry." I begged. "Please for-forgive me."

"Leave me, Tobi." He responded sternly.

"I'm sorry!" I wiped the tears streaming down my cheeks. My tears made it to my glasses getting the lens blurry.
I took it off and put it on my desk.

"Tobi are you crying?"

"Daniel I'm sorry." I sniffed, cleaning my teary eyes with a handkerchief I pulled out from my bag not quite long.

"Why are you crying Tobi? You just seem to want attention! Your attitude is so annoying!" He told me with an awful glower on his face. "Get yourself together and stop with the mood swings!"

After this he left for his seat. Just when I made to follow him, Mr Nwosu walked into the class.

"Good afternoon, Mr Nwosu!" We all chorused while standing.

Glossary
Ogbeni - it's means Mr but in this context it's just a slang. Something like 'Guy' that you call any gender.
