There are sentences said in Croatian in this chapter, they're written in bold, the meaning of the sentence would be at the end of the paragraph of that sentence. Take note that I am by no means from Croatia and these translations are from google translate and so if there are any corrections that need to be made, you can tell me kindly. Thanks.

Esmé sighed and settled further into the sofa she sat on watching a movie. Everything just seemed so boring. She had been doing the same activity repeatedly, and it was driving her crazy.

Lucija was massaging her legs on the instruction of her physiotherapist. She was getting better, and soon she could walk by herself without the crutches. She couldn't wait, but yet she couldn't help but wonder what came after that.

She sighed again, looking away from the movie as Archie smuggled onto her laps; she loved the whole feeling. The friendly dog, someone to massage her legs, but it just still felt empty. Her memories were still stuck, hidden and it didn't help her damp mood.

She wanted to do something else out of her schedule, something that could probably help trigger her memories. She was tired of her routine of eating, doing some exercises, watching movies, playing with Archie, and retreating to her room once Lucija left to avoid seeing Kian and making him even more uncomfortable with her presence. The routine was getting old.

Esmé picked up the remote control by her side and scrolled through the channel for anything that could grab her attention, anything at all.

"želite još jedan film," Lucija asked her in Croatian just as Archie's head popped up to look at her at the sudden change in the channel. (Want another movie)

After she learnt Lucija was Croatian, they had added learning her native language to her schedule, but even that wore off. She could speak it despite not remembering when she learnt it; it was like how she could speak English.

Apparently, although she hurt her temporal lobe, her speech controlled by the Broca's Area wasn't affected.

"Ne," Esmé responded, "Just something different." (No)

"You're getting bored, I see," Lucija commented and sent her a small smile.

"And who wouldn't? I see the necessity in the rest and routine, but it's getting really..." she paused as she stumbled onto a food network.

It threw her back to a flash she had earlier that week. It was like the flash she had when she touched Archie's name tag and a few other times. She had told no one about it because she wasn't sure if it was just her imaginations or if they were really fragments of her memory. She needed to be sure before she brought it up.

She didn't intend to make anyone inconvenient more than she already had. She was going to find out on her own.

With that thought, a spark of idea flowed through her mind as she watched the chef set his ingredients.

She had seen her hands cut food ingredients professionally. Maybe like how she subconsciously remembered how to speak Croatian, she could remember how to cook.

"I know," Lucija said and gave a clenched half-smile in pity. A flutter of guilt filled her inside as she wondered what she could do to possibly help. "Ali nema što drugo raditi." (But there's nothing else to do)

"Actually," Esmé drawled with a grin on her face, her plan forming a feeling of adrenaline rush within her at the thought of trying something new.

Lucija released Esmé's legs and squinted her eyes at her in suspicion. She had never seen a full-blown grin on Esmé's face before. This made her move back a bit, her gaze was still uncertain.

"Miss Esmé?" she called while Archie barked like he was curious too.

Esmé laughed at the look on Lucija's face. "Opustiti, it's just a simple suggestion," Esmé said picking Archie up and dropped him by her side on the floor. Afterwards, she stood up and took hold of her crutches to head in the kitchen's direction. (Relax)

"Miss Esmé! You need to come back right now! What do you think you're doing!?" Lucija shouted behind her. She stood up and rushed to stop her from entering the kitchen.

Esmé stopped at the kitchen door to face Lucija. She couldn't keep her excitement in anymore as her eyes gleamed and sparkled with it. "You know how to cook, don't you?"

Lucija choked on her spit. "Cook!?"

Her eyes widened at the question. She finally took time to study the look of excitement on Esmé's face. "You're joking, right?" but despite her question, she didn't need an answer to know Esmé wasn't joking. "You're not going anywhere near the fire!"

"Oh, come on, please!" Esmé tried to persuade her.

"No, Miss Esmé. It's not safe. Do you want to get me fired? Just wait a bit, from your significant improvements, you would soon walk and won't need my help, then you can do as you wish."

"Do this for me! It's just cooking. No one will know if you don't tell."

"Ti si lud." (You're crazy)

"Not even in the slightest bit. I'm just curious. When I'm better, who knows what I'm going to be doing with my life if Kian throws me out." Esmé tried to reason with her further, she needed to try it, she wanted to know.

"He won't do that."

"You don't know that. We both know he's been avoiding me non-stop since I moved in. He's not pleased that I'm here. Allow me to do this and find something I'm good at, huh?"

Lucija groaned, she got the reasons, but it was too risky. Despite her wanting to help, that was not part of what she had in mind.

"But why cooking? You can try any other thing that's less dangerous."

"I have a good feeling. I think I have a connection to it," Esmé replied smugly.

"A good..." Lucija scoffed, "Oh dobrota." (Oh goodness)

Archie barking brings both of their attention to the dog who is standing by Esmé's side facing Lucija. He kept on barking, telling Lucija to agree with Esmé.

Esmé's lips curled up in pride and even further made a puppy face too, so they could both make cute faces at Lucija.

"Sjajno čak i pas gnjavi na mene." Lucija groaned, looking away from their cute faces. (Great, even the dog is ganging up on me)

"So?" Esmé's prompted, wriggling her eyebrows at Lucija.

"Ugh, I hate you!"

"Da!" Esmé exclaimed in glee, "Don't worry, I'll let you handle the big loads of things." (Yes)

"Ha, pretty convenient, huh?" Lucija mumbled as they both made their way further into the kitchen. "Do you even know what you're doing?"

"Nope," Esmé said smiling. She picked up a knife after she adjusted herself comfortably with her crutches.

"Ovo je ludilo," Lucija murmured, she hoped no one would walk into the house before she had time to clean up. (This is madness)

"So, how is this going to happen?" Lucija raised her eyebrows.

"Well, it's good the food channel is on, isn't it?" Esmé replied, smiling. She had it all figured out to an extent, no matter the mess they made, she was going to try.

Lucija turned up the volume of the TV. She was going to pacify Esmé, even if it was just for that day.

Archie barked, he didn't want them to leave him out of the fun. He pointed his head to the kitchen counter like it was a normal thing for him.

"You want to seat on the kitchen counter?" Lucija asked him, baffled. As far as she knew, Kian never put Archie on the kitchen counter when he cooked, so why did he think of that.

Archie barked repeatedly in response to her question. Lucija turned to Esmé, who nodded, giving her a go-ahead. She didn't see why not?

"This is beyond ridiculous," Lucija said just before she carried him up against her better judgement.

Lucija got the ingredients that were mentioned. They were making a home-style ground beef casserole, from the vegetables to the beef to the cheese needed. They placed them on the counter away from Archie.

Esmé stood by the side to admire everything. "Well looks like Doctor Kian Lincoln has a well-stocked kitchen, wouldn't you say?"

"Yes, of course. Alright, let's get to it."

Esmé placed an apron on her body and she instantly felt like she was home. There were no flashes, just an inside feeling. She took a deep breath before they started cooking. They began with chopping the vegetables needed as the chef instructed them.

Despite her feeling at home, chopping the ingredients wasn't as easy as she thought, and the crutches didn't make it any easier. She felt she could stand without it, but she didn't want to give Lucija any reason to back out.

Once they finished with the chopping, they set it aside and went on to the cooker to cook the beef. Esmé carefully stirred the ingredients they added to the pot on the fire along with the beef.

Archie settled on his belly where Lucija had kept him comfortable watching Esmé cook. Lucija stood by the side and watched her stir the ingredients on the fire happily.

Esmé became oblivious to the outside world, focused on the food she was stirring, and the aroma it was producing. So focused, that Lucija calling out her name in panic startled her.

She dropped the ladle and spun to face Lucija. Fear built within her at the tone of Lucija's voice. Her sharp turn caused a small twist for the right crutch she had balanced on her body while turning the food. The crutch sent pain up her hand before it fell to the ground.

Sneering in pain, with the loss of the crutch to balance herself, Esmé lost her balance. Her hand flew up and her eyes bulged out as she slipped and fell down.

"Esmé!" Two male voices and a female voice, away from Esmé, shouted while Archie barked as she decelerated to the floor.

Howdy Wattpadians!

She's falling down!😮😲 I know! Do you think someone would catch her or would she fall and hit her head and die?! Oh my goodness, you should have just gone on with your boring life, at least you'd have lived.

Alright, dramatics aside. Hoped you liked the chapter and I know you were probably waiting for the chapter where Kian holds up his end of the deal but it's coming I promise, is it the next chapter or the one after that? Who knows? or maybe never, especially if she falls to her death. she'll come back to haunt him. Oooo! Wait a minute, is this a paranormal book or a romance? I'm not too sure anymore.

Okay, dramatics aside this time for real. Tell me what you thought of the chapter. Your best parts or your worst parts. 💭
