A/n: Outfit for chapter ☝️
Author's P.O.V.
Asgard was a beautiful kingdom. Much like how it had been described in many Norse lores, the kingdom of gods and demi gods was a truly magical place to live in. The land had everything one could ask for---- lush forests with the most exotic flora and fauna, while in sharp contrast to that, gorgeous palaces made of gold, crystal clear streams which danced merrily, synchronised perfectly with their sweet songs and a just and benevolent king to watch over all his subjects.
It truly was paradise.
What Asgardians prided and loved the most were their two princes, Prince Thor and Prince Loki. Not a day went by without one hearing a small child utter the following proclamation to his playmates; I will be just like Prince Thor when I am older!
Proud parents would shake their heads in delight while they patted the heads of their young ones. They couldn't be prouder if their child turned out to be like the silver and red clad, lion-hearted prince.
But why not like Prince Loki?, One would ask and it was truly an amusing sight to watch the once bright and encouraging faces of the same parents turn dark and threatening towards the other child who would mention this.
Reprimanding their children from playing with the innocent child who dared to pose that question, they would silently pray to whoever was willing to listen to their desperate prayer of their children becoming nothing like their younger prince.
Ah, there can't be a paradise without trouble now, can it?
And that was exactly how most of the population in Asgard regarded the raven haired prince as: trouble.
While people sang praises of Prince Thor, they whispered of the recent evil trick pulled by Prince Loki on some innocent bystander. How innocent was the bystander or how evil was the trick pulled by the prince, no one cared to find out.
After all, the town needed its gossip, right?
However, if one was to ask if they truly loved both their princes equally, the people would jovial say, Of course! Is that even a question?
Why they were crossing their finger behind their backs then? Well, I think both you and I know the answer to that, don't we?
Unlike how the people wanted them to believe, the princes already knew about their people's thoughts about them. While it bothered Thor that people couldn't really see that his brother was truly an astounding individual, Loki simply shrugged it off.
Loki Friggason knew his worth. And anybody else's opinion didn't really matter.
Therefore, Loki wasn't one to think too much of anybody's words. May it be of the whispers which seemed to follow wherever he went, may it be of the false praises peasants would shower him with to gain favour or may it be the way the maidens would flatter him in his older years at various balls.
They were, but, as valuable to him as a pebble lying on the ground. Enjoyable for a while, but worthless nonetheless.
Hence, it truly seemed to knock the wind out of the young blue-blood when two words seemed to be ringing in his ears, much like an annoying alarm.
Thank you.
Those were the two words which were said to him perhaps a million times if not less. Yet, that moment, when he first heard the two words escape his team leader's mouth kept replaying in his mind, as though she had just proclaimed her love for him.,
Even now as he stood next the make shift healing room, the groans and hisses coming seemed to be non existent to the pale man. The only thing he could hear--- he could see--- were the way in which (Y/n)'s eyes locked onto his with utmost sincerity and the way her plump lips uttered the words.
While the fantastical part of his impeccable brain, a part he did not use very much (except perhaps while reading a book or something of the sorts) yelled at him that the tone in which she spoke the two words was different than her teasing, or the normal confident one the leader of the Avengers used, the other part, the more logical one, said that he was over thinking it. Much like him, Acharya was an aristocrat. And aristocrats were always taught to sincerely express their gratitude towards the person who had granted them a service, regardless of how grand it may have been.
And indeed, it was only that, he said to himself, moving towards the center of the ground.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
The demigod inhaled deeply. The day had really been quite hectic for him. Now all he needed were these moments of peace and quiet and----
"Brother, where have you been?" There go his hopes of any peace or quiet. Closing his eyes and sucking in a deep breath, he pretended to not have heard his older brother's voice.
Ignorance is bliss, he thought. There was also another motive behind his action--- one, he wouldn't admit.
Loki believed, if he was to stand absolutely still and make no noise at all, he could perhaps become invisible (Why didn't he think of using his magic? He was just too tired and done to use it).
"Brother! I have been calling for you for a while now--- why haven't you been answering?", The blonde haired demigod quizzed, proving his brother's theories wrong and landing a large hand on the toned body of the sorcerer.
Letting out the breath he had sucked in, Loki opened his eyes and turned to face his brother.
"I was trying to soak in some noments of the much needed peace and quiet Thor. Thank you for shattering it." Thor barked out a laugh.
"Oh Loki! I'd never know why you would like to indulge in such monotonous practices of yours." Just as Loki was about to ask Thor what exactly he meant by monotonous practices, they were joined by another rather--- in Loki's opinion--- pompous voice.
"It seems Midgard has made you incredibly naive, Thor.", Fandral stated, announcing his arrival. The warrior took his spot on the other side of Loki.
"Why shouldn't Loki indulge in his mundane practices, when he was the word and its synonyms were based off of?" It took Fandral only about 8 seconds to dissolve into laughter, once he had uttered the words, Thor joining him.
Loki rolled his eyes. After years of being poked fun at, he knew reacting to such imbeciles would only encourage them.
"In that case, and please pardon me for what I am about to say, warrior Fandral, the word vain and all its synonyms would be based off of you then, would they not?", A voice suggested from behind them.
The three men turned to look at the source of the voice. Two of them had already armed themselves with rather bitter retorts on their tongues for the insolent fool who dared to not only interrupt them, but also jest with one of the valiant Warriors Three.
However, when they saw who this fool was, they replaced their glares with smiles on their lips.
Walking next to Lady Sif, dressed in an Asgardian outfit, was Lady (Y/n). While the other two looked at the approaching maidens jovially, Loki felt a sense of deja vu envelope him.
As he looked upon the confident countenance of Lady (Y/n), Loki couldn't help but quirk the side of his lips upwards.
Clad in an elegant blue dress, with her hair tied up in a half down half up fashion, Kaal looked like the epitome of gentleness and nobility.
Loki noted the way in which the deep blue colour really brought out the lady's eyes highlighting the sharp contrast between the emotions those beautiful lotus shaped pools of (y/e/c) held during the formidable battle.
During the battle, and when they had first arrived, the heiress of peace and justice's eyes had been flitting in their sockets, soaking in their new surroundings along with keeping themselves alert for any incoming attacks or attackers. However now, the wildfire which had been burning in the same irises had quelled themselves into a tranquil yet playful ocean.
Another thing, the emerald green clad Prince notice was the way she carried the colour, enhancing the shade's gravity and brilliance. The way she wore the colour against her (your skin type) (your skin colour) skin, it looked as the she owned the colour.
Much like the way in which he wore his emerald green, he mused.
That was when it him. That was because much like how emerald green, black and gold were his royal colours, the same way deep blue was hers.
"Ah! It's so nice of you to join us at last, Lady (Y/n)! Might I add that you look simply marvelous in your outfit.", Fandral commented, taking the crown princess' hand and placing a soft kiss on it.
The state of feeling annoyed, impatient or slightly angry is known as irritation--- the perfect word to sum up the second prince's feelings towards the man standing on his right.
Watching the warrior's actions, the god of mischief felt his hands itch as he reached for one of his daggers in one of his pockets, only stopping when he remembered he also would have to present himself in front of his father in the same robes and it would definitely be difficult to explain how he got the splashes of blood on the fine asgardian leather. Moreover, explaining why did one of the members of the valiant Warriors Three end up with a gaping hole just above his spine, appropriately the size of his blade would be another waste of energy altogether.
Therefore, Loki retracted his hand from his pocket in his pants and instead, used it to swot Fandral's fingers away from holding (Y/n)'s hand and chose to rather glare daggers towards the bearded man, rather than stab them with the weapon.
"Loki.", Came his brother's low reprimand. The god of mischief offered the god of thunder an innocent look.
"What did I do wrong now, brother? I was merely keeping Fandral's rather unsanitary hands away from Lady (Y/n). After all, I did vow to be her protector in these foreign lands and I am a man of my word." The lady's eyes squinted.
"I hope you would excuse me, but I don't recall hearing the word protector from your mouth Loki.", She suggested, placing her fore finger on her chin. "If I am not wrong, I think the correct words were be at your side and watch your back at all times, were they not?"
"Exactly the dictionary definition of what a protector does, darling."
"I am afraid you are a bit wrong there, love."
"Am I, my dear?"
"Absolutely, my sweet."
"Well then---"
"Well then, would you two kindly stop bickering like an old married couple and not making the rest of us here wish we stab ourselves?", Interjected Lady Sif, breaking her long practiced silence.
"That is true. One would think the two of you were courting." At Volstagg's words (Y/n)'s eyes widened to the size of the diamond saucers of her grandmother's treasured tea set-
a courting gift from her grandfather to her because she had loved to collect them- while Loki now shifted his glare to the plump man.
"Volstagg, has your tongue been bothering you, lately that you want it have be chopped out of your mouth?", The frost giant enquired causally. Thor patted his brother's back lightly with a smile.
"Oh lighten up, Loki. Volstagg here was simply jesting and nothing else. I apologise on behalf of my friend if his comment made you uncomfortable in any way, Lady (Y/n).", The elder brother placated, with the said warrior to nodding.
"Apologies indeed, my lady. I didn't mean to imply anything or to offend anyone." A smile fell on the princess' lips as she nodded, letting out a light laugh.
"Please be at ease, warrior Volstagg. You have, in no way whatsoever offended me and instead, reminded me of few of the best days of my life." The huge man lifted his head with a satisfied smile. "My friends and brothers back in Midgard used to jest in a similar manner. So thank you, for that."
"It was my pleasure, my Lady!", Volstagg beamed.
"Well, well, well. Here I had never thought that a woman who had an upper hand in looks couldn't have an upper hand in mind, but I seem to be utterly mistaken. Lady (Y/n), you seemed to have made this humble one your newest admirer. Please expect poetry written in your praises delivered to your doorstep.", Fandral commented, bowing down at the last bit as he stood in front (Y/n).
She let out a laugh.
"Certainly, warrior Fandral. I would however request you to please do something unique to set your poem apart. It might get lost amongst the many others I recieve, you see." At hearing her comment all the people, now stood in a semi circle started to laugh, only barring Fandral himself who was now clutching his heart.
"Oh, how you wound me, you beautiful rose!", He exclaimed rather dramatically. Kaal was quite quick with her response as well.
"Well, a rose does have thorns, does it not?" This time, Loki laughed the loudest, bowing slightly in front of the princess as well.
"All hail the queen of quips!", He announced.
"All hail!", The remaining three people exclaimed, bowing their heads as well. The young girl laughed at the sight in front of her and waved her hand in dismissal.
"At ease, peasants.", She joked. Just when all the people stood up, an Asgardian soldier, came up to them and bowed to Loki and Thor.
"My Liege, we are ready to depart. All we require is your signal to leave.." A smile came on Thor's face.
"That's wonderful! In that case, let's get back home." With that, Thor raised his hammer to the sky and all of them braced themselves.
"You might want to hold on again.", Loki whispered in (Y/n)'s ears. The lady nodded clutched tightly onto Loki's middle, since she really didn't want to throw up on the Rainbow Bridge - as Thor had names it - as soon as she reached Asgard. It would make for a terrible first impression and as her uncle had quoted when he came to the hospital wing of the palace when she was born, all decked up in a three-piece suit and brand new polished oxfords; The first impression is the last impression.
The tall man reciprocated the woman's actions by holding her securely in his arms. If anyone would have asked why the tip of their ears were going pink, both of the parties would have either denied the accusation and properly scolded the accuser for their lack of observation and manners or simply blamed the hot weather (It was actually quite chilly).
(Y/n) looked up at Loki's visage to find him gazing on hers already. She smiled brightly at him, one he returned, before it dissolved into a shock when she winked at him. Now he was sure, he was looking as red as Thor's cape.
"Hey Loki?", She whispered in an innocent voice.
"Yes, my lady?"
"If yoy called me a mewling quim ever again, I am going to stomp so hard on your gut that your intestines will spill out of your mouth, which I will then season, boil and feed to Ratri. Okay?", She threatened in a voice in which any onlooker would assume she was asking about his family. And that was the reason the pale man went a shade or two paler.
"Duly noted.", He gulped. He didn't have to guess as to who had let this little secret of his spill out their mouth since Friggason clearly remembered Acharya shooting him a murderous glare before he approached her after the battle. Besides, Sif had threatened him with a payback after the prank with her hair.
If he was to be honest, Loki commended her. She indeed got exactly what she wanted without her having to even move a muscle and even saving another lady's honour. No wonder she was such a formidable warrior.
"That's good.", (Y/n) responded, pulling him out of his thoughts. Just as he was about to smile, she continued. "For you to remember."
Before he could respond or even react, from the corner of his eye Loki saw a rainbow light coming towards them and at that moment, he found his priority to be to protect (Y/n) from getting out of his arms and getting separated from them as well as make sure, she was okay. He tightened his grip around her waist.
If only Loki had paid more attention to the elemental in his arms, he would have noticed her breath hitch, a blush fall on her cheek and her curl her fingers into fists to stop the sparks of fire which had appeared as the result of her heart's racing.
